New Fitness App Will Understand You, Even When You Eat That Ice Cream

By Ken Briodagh May 18, 2015

Samsung and Cigna, announced on May 18 that they have collaborated on a new version of Cigna’s Coach mobile application that incorporates the psychology of lateral assessment to identify personality type, understands user’s wants, needs and preferences and suggests programs to help with diet, exercise, sleep, stress and weight. The app is free in the Google Play store for Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge mobile devices.

“Cigna is all about finding effective ways to help people achieve healthier, more secure lives,” said Heather Valteris, Global Head of Channel and Partnership Marketing, Cigna. “We tested, we learned and now we're putting our expertise into our next generation of Coach by Cigna. With less than 20 simple questions, we can get to know your style, your preferences and the best ways to meet you where you are and help get you to where you want to be.”

Coach by Cigna identifies users’ personality types from the questionnaire. Some examples are: Planner, Day Dreamer and Explorer. It then determines aptitude for exercise, how high health is prioritized and understanding of health issues. Then it creates a program for better nutrition, ?exercise, sleep, stress and weight management, and puts that health, diet and fitness program in the palm of customers’ hand, complete with

instructional videos and support from health coaches.

Consumers can personalize their health goals, select recommended programs, and track progress, all the while getting support from the app’s motivational messaging, quantifiable health activities and achievement badges. The app works together with Samsung's S Health application, which is an all-in-one companion for healthy lifestyle that gets packaged with Samsung’s mobile devices and wearables.

“Samsung is committed to providing our users with mobile health solutions that go above and beyond what is currently available in the market,” said Yong Jin Lee, head of Health R&D Group, Samsung Electronics. “By partnering with Cigna, we can put advanced health technology into the hands of our users, making our applications a fun and integral part of their everyday lives.”

See you in health.
