THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Coming off of its historic 2014 season, the Maritime Volleyball team will look to return to the Skyline Conference Tournament for the second straight season.

With new coach
Michele Murray at the helm, she will look to not only guide the program to the playoffs for the second straight season, but also attempt to pick up a victory in the league playoffs.

Maritime returns a core of its team from a season ago headlined by the first-ever All-Skyline First Team selection and Rookie of the Year in sophomore
Shannon Brady (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point). Seniors
Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward (Fla.)) and
Colleen Sheehy (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) will also return looking to make a strong impact in Maritime's offensive game. Back for their second go-around with the team this year are junior
Carly Lombardo (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) and sophomore
Gabrielle Kempski (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson), who also provided a great impact in their first seasons.

Team BreakdownWith Brady, who appeared in all 27 matches for the Privateers last season, set the single-season and career record for kills with 321, a staggering 3.49 kills per set. She also finished third on the squad in digs, and added 40 service aces and 18 assists en route Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week selections on three occasions as a freshman.

Lombardo finished the year second on the team with 307 assists to go along with 186 kills and 62 service aces, Kempski added a team-leading 72 service aces and was third on the team with 180 kills.

After missing the latter portion of last season, Acklin will look to cap off her solid career along with Sheehy. Last season the pair combined for 32 kills, 12 service aces, and 70 digs.

With Lombardo coming back having the most sets, the Privateers also add junior
Erika Bailey (Newark Valley, N.Y./Tioga Central) to the squad after picking up over 900 assists in just two seasons at Morrisville prior to transferring.

Newcomers
Meghan Burke (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner) along with freshmen
Meredith Hayes (Houston, Texas/St. Agnes Academy) and
Isabella Kent (Narrowsburg, N.Y./Sullivan West) will also provide to the Privateer front line, as they join the Maritime squad for the first time in 2015.

The defensive side of the ball will prove to be the most open of the competition for the starting spots for the Privateers, as junior defensive specialist/libero
Irene Gogos (Jackson Heights, N.Y./Aviation) and
Alyssa Esposito (Farmingdale, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) in addition to freshman
Catherine Pfundstein (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) will all vie to replace all-time and single-season digs leader
Sydney Carella (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville), who graduated from the team.

ScheduleMaritime opens the season at home on Tuesday, September 1 when the team plays host to Lehman inside Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium. The team hosts its first of two tri-matches on September 12, when the team welcomes in Sarah Lawrence and Bard. The abbreviated version of the 2015 Maritime Classic takes place at Merchant Marine, with the Privateers competing against Mass. Maritime and Maine Maritime.

The next day, Skyline Conference play begins with Yeshiva and St. Joseph's (LI) making their way to Riesenberg Hall for a league tri-match. After a few weeks on the road, Maritime will host Staten Island to kick off Homecoming Weekend on campus, with a 5 p.m. match slated for October 2. The team will also host three "Dig Pink" matches in the month of October with its matches against Medgar Evers (10/14), Culinary Institute (10/19) and Brooklyn (10/21).

The match against the Bulldogs will also be Senior Night, as the senior members of the team will play in their last regular season matches inside Riesenberg Hall.
