In this edition of the hotstove we discuss whether or not we'll see any 100-point scorers in the NHL this season.

Todd Cordell

I think we'll see more goals in the NHL this season and as such at least one player will hit 100 points.

If preseason is any indication it seems power play opportunities will rise this year (meaning more goals) and with 3-on-3 overtime more games are ending with top players scoring goals rather than nobody collecting points in a shootout.

On top of that a few of the NHL's best point producers will have more help this season. Sidney Crosby has a supporting cast featuring Evgeni Malkin, Phil Kessel, Patric Hornqvist and Kris Letang, among others, while Tyler Seguin will have Patrick Sharp and a full season (hopefully) of Valeri Nichushkin to work with on top of the guys already in place like Jamie Benn, Jason Spezza and John Klingberg.

In Washington T.J. Oshie and Justin Williams were added up front while Andre Burakovsky and Evgeni Kuznetsov both seem poised for breakout seasons.

Combine better supporting casts for a few of the league's best players with an increase in goals thanks to 3-on-3 (and perhaps more power plays) and I think at least one player will tally 100 points this season.

Tim Chiasson

Yes, there's going to be two.

Sidney Crosby and Tyler Seguin are going to score 100 points because they've got the supporting cast to go with their already elite talent that will push them over the no fly zone of the modern day NHL.

Obviously health is a factor for both of them, but they've got the skills and weapons in tow to bring offense back to the NHL.

A down scoring year has everyone in a panic that the 100 point days are completely over. I'm not buying it. It's coming back, and it's coming back this year.
