Big fan of the Samantha Young's work, so naturally I couldn't wait to pick up One King's Way. Naturally I was nervous, this was a novella, but Young did an amazing job not only the way she used the novella to tell the story, but the length of it was perfect. It went smoothly and wrapped up perfectly without leaving me wanting more. I actually felt, satisfied.
The story follows Craig the bartender who sets his sights on the beautiful Rain. Can we just talk about how cool Rain sounds with her 1940s pin up girl fashion? Seriously makes me want to go vintage dress clothes hunting. Craig was, interesting. A flirty bartender who likes his one night stands until Rain comes along and changes his whole perspective. Craig is a realist, Rain is a romantic who is looking for someone that will devote their entire being to her. She wants to be loved so bad, she is basically looking for a can't sleep, can't eat, my love for you consumes me kind of love.
Rain meets Craig in a bar when she comes to the club to take revenge on her sister's ex, who drove her out of town by doing something really disgusting.
I liked the way Young handled their relationship. There was a bit of an insta-lust, but I found the connection worked. I think Rain makes Craig a little better. I did want to roll my eyes a bit on what she was asking of him, but I get it, who doesn't want love like that? It was cute how Craig despite being a realist found himself not only falling for her, but also kind of living up to her expectations. The chemistry was steamy and worked.
The flow of this novella worked. It didn't feel too rushed for me. I did not finish it in one shot, even thought I wanted to and Young did wrap it up pretty nicely without me feeling like there should be more.
Also, I love the fact that Jo and Joss show up in this book. So we get a kind of a glimpse into their current lives as well!
The banter was also fun and exciting and if you love a good book with wonderful characters and a bit of steam, this one is for you.

When our eyes met again Craig’s were filled with something…something I couldn’t quite identify. “What?” I said softly.
“I think you just might be more than a little magnificent,” he said.
“Craig.” I tried to plead as lust and desire fogged my brain. “Please, just leave me alone.”
“But I can’t seem to help myself,” he murmured seconds before his lips brushed gently over mine.
Both his hands were suddenly cupping my breasts. He squeezed them as he pressed his dick deeper into my belly. “Do you want me inside you?” he growled in my ear.
… “I-I-I don’t know,” I stammered.
He flicked his tongue against my earlobe. “I think you do know. I think you want my mouth between your legs, my tongue making you come first, and then my cock.”
“I can’t promise what will happen in the future; no one can. But I can promise that I want to be with you.”
“I wanted to be a man’s whole world. Like . . . he’d die for me kind of love and vice versa.
When I was fourteen, lonely and starving for affection, I’d fallen in love with romance novels, and ever since then I’d hoped for an epic love story of my own.
I wanted to be the only woman he saw.”
