Eastern Wins Second in a Row at the Queen City Classic

The Eagles have yet to lose a set in the 2015 season

CINCINNATI, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University's volleyball team continued its hot start to the 2015 campaign Friday night, Aug. 28, by defeating the University of Cincinnati, 3-0. The Eagles (2-0) used the victory over the Bearcats (0-1) to win six-straight sets to begin the 2015 season.
 
Eastern Michigan rode the offensive attack of Stacey Perinar in the victory. She posted 14 kills, while also posting a double-double, adding 12 digs. Alyssa Davis and Mallory Rajewski grabbed 17 and 14 assists, respectively. The Green and White saw Samantha Falco recorded five kills in seven attempts, good for a .714 attack percentage. Defensively, Corynne Smith posted a team-best 15 digs, while Katie Krasowski racked up four block assists and one solo. Cassie Haut also added four block assists.
 
For the Bearcats, Jordan Thompson posted a team-high 10 kills, while Emma Roberson added nine of her own. Abby Williams led the match with 19 digs, while Jade Tingelhoff added 12 of her own.
 
The Eagles used three team blocks to keep the UC offense at bay in the 25-23 first set victory. EMU held Cincinnati to an .073 hitting percentage in the opening frame. Eastern used Falco's three kills in four attempts while Perinar added three and Haut and Krasowski each posted a pair. The Green and White used a .108 attack percentage to post its 1-0 lead after the opening frame.
 
Perinar led the Eagles with five kills in the second set, 25-21, win. Davis and Rajewski each set five assists while Smith picked up six digs. EMU used three blocks to hold Cincinnati to a .119 attack percentage. The Eagles hit .125 in the set, posting 12 kills on 40 attempts en route to its second set win, giving them a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
 
The Green and White posted extreme offensive success in the final frame of the match, hitting .324, on its way to a 25-23 victory in set three. Perinar led the charge recording six kills, while Kelsey Jones added three of her own. Rajewski led the defense, picking up five digs, while Perinar grabbed four on the Eagles' way to its second win of 2015.
 
EMU will conclude the Queen City Classic Saturday, Aug. 29, with a noon matchup against Xavier University.
