A woman who swallowed 68 cocaine pellets before traveling from Jamaica to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is facing federal drug smuggling charges, according to court documents.

Venesya Oldacre, 30, was arrested Aug. 31 after arriving on a flight from Kingston. According to a federal complaint, she was interviewed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents and told them she had planned to take a cab to a Red Roof Inn in Fort Lauderdale.

There, according to the complaint, she planned to “pass the pellets and … receive $3,000 when she delivered” them.

She was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, where she excreted 68 pellets containing 1.5 pounds of cocaine, according to the complaint.

She was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Possession of more than one pound carries a maximum of 40 years in prison.

Oldacre made her initial appearance Wednesday morning before U.S. Magistrate Judge Lurana Snow. She is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 23.

Oldacre is being held at the North Broward Jail without bond.

Her attorney, Philip Horowitz, declined to comment on the case Wednesday.
