Firstly let me say GRIZ IS MINE!!!! Honest to god I'm really serious ask lila rose if you don't believe me.....now I've staked my claim let's review!!!
Lila Rose is a writing genius, her writing flows like hot fudge, she creates characters it's impossible not to love, she writes lines like...
" I felt my cheeks heat and I knew she'd seen them, because her eyes widened a fraction. “Too late, darlin'. Watching you and your hot body move under my face and fingers had me shoot my load onto the bed like some fuckin' eager teenager.”
Her mouth opened in shock. She threw her hand over her mouth to cover the giggle that escape, but it was too late; I'd heard it.
“You laughin' at me, woman?” I mock-growled. She nodded and rolled to her side, though she shouldn't have, because now I had the chance to smack her arse good and hard.
She stopped laughin' straight away and ended up moaning. “Fuck me. My darlin' likes rough play,” I groaned.
I can honestly say that this is just the start of one completely off the charts amazing read, Lila gave us awesome with Talon in Holding Out, well she's outdone herself and given us fanmotherfuckintastic with Griz in Climbing Out!!!
I will read these books time and again and love every second every single time there just that good five stars just aren't good enough here not by a long way!!!!!

This is on the grittier side of spectrum for MC stories.
Griz is the VP of the Hawkes MC. Deanna is the best friend of the club president's old lady. He thinks he is too old for her, even though she has made it clear she doesn't feel the same. She wants him. Once he realizes she is in danger, he knows he can no longer hold back.
Griz is alpha to the max. He has a 2 year old daughter with an ex (they broke up before she knew she was pregnant). He can't stand the child's mother but tries to always be there for his little girl. The mom OD's and Griz finally gets to have her with him.
Deanna is strong, determined and cusses like a sailor. She didn't have a great childhood and is devastated when she loses her foster parents at a young age. She finally feels like she has a family with her friends Zara and Talon, Griz and this group of bikers..Her past is coming back to haunt her and she doesn't want to lose this new found happiness.

Deanna knew Griz was meant to be her man, the burly hottie with the gruff demeanor is perfect in her eyes. No one knows her past, sans her best friend, but when it appears to be knocking on her door Griz steps in. Everything is about to change for Deanna and Griz and it is a hell of a ride.
This was darker than Holding On. You got more of a feel as to what the club was involved in and had a few surprises along the way. Loved this couple, Griz bungles at time and Deanna has a vulnerable side you never would have expected. All the favorites are in this one and it as a pure delight to read.

You know when you have a book on your reader for so long and you can't actually remember why you bought or downloaded it
And then one day you just decide to read it and you think to yourself WTH. Why didn't I read this sooner.
This is what happened to me when I read the first book in this series.
It was such an awesome book that I read it in one night. And for those of you that know me, know that I love me some hot biker alpha male book.
The second book in this series did not disappoint me at all. This author just get's straight to the point and doesn't stop the good stuff from coming. I loved it.
Deanna was my favorite in the previous book, a best friend to Zara that I think we all would love to have. She was sassy/bad mouth/ballsy and just a bad ass chick. Hence the nickname 'Hellmouth'...lol
Grady aka Griz... Hmmm what can I say... Hot/Bad Ass Biker:
Grady is the VP of the Hawks MC. Because he is older than Dee he puts off having a relationship with her but he can't help but be drawn to her. I loved the banter back and forth between the two and the chemistry they have is OFF THE CHARTS!! When these two finally do hook up they are HOTTT!! And Dee is so not shy about what she wants and she wants HIM!!! (ME TOO!!)
Griz has a beautiful little girl and she is just to cute, little Swan:
Who is 4years old and doesn't talk at all, because the mother is a messed up junky and just did not care about her little girl. Until Griz takes her and she starts to come out of her shell with him and Deanna and her new family.
And obviously you have your bad guys who just don't know that you dont mess with bikers.
All in all a quick/hot/drama filled story that will keep you entertained.
I have fallen in love with this author and this series and cannot wait for the next book to be released.

Climbing Out By Lila Rose Is Freaking AMAZING, Its OFF the CHARTS HOT!! You will fall in love with Griz and Deanna they are both SEXY, Snarky and Beautiful characters. You Just cant not fall in love with this awesome series!

I freaking Loved watching them two fall in love with each other, The way griz takes over is so funny and cool!!
I was in total awe and couldnt get that stupid smile of my face the whole time i was reading this one!

Reading the first one I had to read this one straight away as I couldn't wait for their story & wasn't disappointed - I can say I am hooked Lila!!

Really, really liked it! Loved it!
We met Deanna and Griz in Holding Out, the first book of the series. I, for one, fell for both of them and knew their relationship would be a whirlwind because they are both stubborn. Plus, Deanna has an attitude that few can match and her nickname, ‘Hell Mouth’ kinda says it all. She’s in-your-face, blunt and tells it as she sees it. She cusses but only when the kids aren’t around.
Griz. He’s the older, rugged biker with a secret. He has an ex with a lot of problems and issues but there’s more to it than that. I won’t say what, I don’t want to spoil it. Whatever it is, believe me, it’s not something one expects. Griz is a loyal brother, he’s the VP of the Hawks MC and he has had a thing for crazy Deanna since he first laid eyes on her. I wanted to smack him upside the head that it took him so long to realize that it was inevitable for him to try and forget all about her. Deanna is not a person one could forget. Nope, she makes a lasting impression.
“Whether she liked or not, that someone was me.” This after he came to his senses.
But once he gets over their age difference – blah, blah, blah if you ask me – he goes in hard. He’s naughty and could make a nun blush.
“I want you to fuck my face, darlin’.”
I like seeing how things are between Talon and Zara; Julian and Mattie are still together and in love. Speaking of Julian, he cracks me up, especially with his nicknames and pet names.
“Shit. Oh… damn. I need a fan or I need to come.” Julian sighed and leaned back in his chair.
This has more hot scenes than the first book, De and Grady/Griz are really good together, even though they come to blows, at times and there was this one scene where I really would have clobbered Griz for being an ass. But he redeems himself, especially at the end.
Can’t wait for more!
“I lifted my head to see yet another fuckin’ silent conversation was going on. I was sure this one said in their caveman ways, She’ll need more protection, with a response of, I’m on it. Ugg, ugg, grunt, fart and groan.”
If you like a storyline that’s funny, sarcastic, yet hot and has some action-packed scenes, as well, read this book because you won’t be sorry.

3.5 stars. Hellmouth and Griz didn't disappoint. Deanna Drake is a woman of many secrets all of which are revealed pretty early on. We learn why the hellmouth keeps folks at a distance. Her past is pretty horrific and it explains why she needs Zara's friendship. Grady's secret was unexpected but not totally. Julian remains my favorite character of this series, but I do worry for he and Mattie. Because seriously Pick is unlike ANY biker I've read about up until this point and I look forward to his story.

I was one lucky person to get an ARC of this book. I have been impatiently waiting to read it. It didn't disappoint! I loved the story. I love Deanna's foul mouth, Griz's possessiveness and oh how I missed Julian's constant flirting!. The sex scenes were smoking hot but I would of preferred Griz to resist a bit longer and see more sexual tension. Bring on Book 3!

Really enjoying this series, this is Griz & Deanna' book. Written in dual pov, got pulled into the story from the first couple of pages. Good to see how the rest of the characters are doing as well.

This series is kind of like potato chips, betcha can't read just one! The girls are feisty, sarcastic, and kind. Lots of laugh out loud parts. The guys are hunky, caring, protective, and loyal. Great characters. The conflict of the story is difficult to stomach. I think it was very similar to book one though.

OMG, I freaking loved this book!! Once I started it I was hooked!! I loved Deanna and Grizzly aka Dee and Grady.
You meet both Dee and Grady in book 1 Holding Out. I knew then that I wanted them together and I couldn't wait for their book. Dee was such a ball buster in Holding Out so it was good to see her be more vulnerable and see a softer side of her in her own book. I just love her.

five stars for Deanna and Griz
Deanna is Zara's bestfriend. We meet her in book one of this series. She is vulgar,crazy spirited and very funny! she flirts with Griz openly but he refuses to take someone so much younger than him seriously until Deanna's life is threatened and jumps the gun by moving himself into her house.... just without her permission.
There is something about the close knit friends and family in this series. Its very contagious to the point you want to be apart of it. ultimately, this is why i want to continue reading this series.

I really like Dee and Grady's story and what happened between them and the way it blossomed. Definitely five stars!!! I couldn't put it down and wanted to keep reading to see what else happened and with little Swan just beautiful. I just loved these two as characters and love there story more then Zara and Talon's.
I do wish there was a bit more resistance between the two but I think the reason why Lila didn't is because they have been fighting demons within there own self for way to long and just needed peace in the end. They found love!!!
Lila's writing is becoming stronger and can't wait to read more from her!!!

I do wish there was a bit more resistance between the two but I think the reason why Lila didn't is because they have been fighting demons within there own self for way to long and just needed peace in the end. They found love!!!

This was a pleasant surprise! My first Lila Rose read & I loved it!
Dee was a hoot. She was just crazy! I loved her friendship with Zara & Julian. I want him as my best friend, too. These three were hilarious together.
Grady was what Dee needed. He tried to hold off being with her cause of their age difference but it just couldn't be helped. I loved their banter & their chemistry. Swan was just adorable. Dee was perfect with her.
This book had me in stitches! I was laughing so hard. Good thing I wasn't out in public. I'd probably look like a loon. It also left me teary eyed & emotional. Great read! Exactly the kind of story I wanted.
I look forward to reading more from the author. Highly recommended!

If I had not accidentally started listening to the CAROLINA SPRINGS CHAPTER spin-off, I would not be reading this series. This book is not at all as captivating, believable or entertaining as that one was!!! The only difference between this book and the first one are the names of the characters. Like Zara, Deanna is also hiding from her abusive ex-husband and like Talon, Griz is her hero. If I weren’t trying to understand the characters in preparation for the CAROLINA SPRINGS CHAPTER, I would not be reading this series.

I listened to the Audible audiobook narrated by Tarny Evans and Paul Casteri. Casteri does a decent job but I had a very difficult time listening to Evans’ portions. Although she’s not a horrible actress, her pacing was beyond infuriating!!! Evans reads/speaks at a normal speed then leaves huge, looooong, irritating gaps of silence between each sentence which is unfortunately can’t be adjusted by speeding up or slowing down my audiobook reader. It was beyond frustrating and I am sure I would have liked this book more if I had read it instead of listening to it. In addition, Evans does not attempt to change her voice when speaking for male characters, using the same female voice for everyone.

i really really enjoyed this book.. I did a thing and got all of the books in this series.. I love Griz and Deanna.. and who can forget lil Miss Swan..

Another great novel with these characters. I love that we got to see all the characters from the first book and added a few. This one centered around Deanna and Griz. Yes there was an age difference and while at the start it played a big part but that fizzled our. I forgot that he was over 10 years older. They were a great match and I loved seeing him and his brothers working together to protect Deanna. There’s not much more I can say other then that I enjoyed it and can’t wait to see what’s next. 4 stars #2OCCJD

I am enjoying this series. It has all the elements you want/need/expect of an MC novel.
There is romance (biker style), lots of funny dialogue, drama, steam, and the normal workings of an MC (violence, club shenanigans etc.)
So far the characters are all strong people even if they don’t believe they are.

Climbing Out is book 2 in the series and gives us the story of Deanna and Griz. If you read Holding Out, which you should, you fell in love with Deanna’s snarky attitude and potty mouth. She was a HOOT and I loved her. The sexual tension between her and Griz was off the charts and I knew once those 2 got over whatever obstacle’s they needed to work and finally came to terms with their feelings it was going to be hot……and boy was it hot.
Griz is your typical badass biker man who is manly from head to toe and has a very alpha personality. He isn’t perfect and doesn’t claim to be. He knows he fucks up but when it comes to the people he cares about he will do whatever is needed to fix it. He is hard and strong and crazy good in the bedroom but deep down has a soft heart when directed at certain people in his life.
Deanna is hard and independent, never wanting to rely on anyone but herself. Even with her loud dirty potty mouth and I’m a bitch attitude deep down she yearns for something more. She has this standoffish exterior but secretly craves the love and support that family gives her. Hiding from her past that she knows will ultimately reach her she lives watching over her shoulder never knowing when the demons will make their appearance. There was always something about Griz that pulled her towards him but she knew she had to fight her hardest to stay away so she couldn’t be hurt again.
Griz and Deanna is a very hot couple because Deanna for one doesn’t take his shit. She will take it and dish it out as fast as she receives it. She has a hard exterior but there is something about Griz that breaks her apart and makes her a softy. Finally after giving into all the sexual looks and urges of desire they explode and it’s fucking hot. Lila Rose did an amazing job and taking all the sexual tension we had to endure during Holding Out and making it explode in Climbing Out.
Their relationship was not an easy one because they butted heads more time than not but that’s what made this read so entertaining because you never knew what was going to happen and who in the end would win the fight. They fought hard against each other but made up and there make up sessions were orgasm inducing.
When the demons from Deanna’s past finally catch up to her, she has no choice but to face head on. When her past threatens to end her life once and for all and will stop at nothing to make sure she is gone and buried it’s up to her hard exterior to resurface to survive it. Griz will never let anyone hurts what’s his but sometimes some people are too late. Will Deanna survive her past? Will Griz be able to save the woman he can’t breathe without before she is taken away from him all too soon? Or will Deanna’s past finally win and finish the job that was started years ago?

All in self-preservation, with a history like hers it isn't a big surprise, and there are few who can make their way under. One would be Zara, the Hawks MC's president's old lady and Deanna's best friend. Another might be Julian, their rather flamboyantly gay, human man radar. But the one who could completely break the shell down, and doesn't even know it, is Griz, the Hawks' VP.
He's wanted to go there, but Grady Daniels - Griz for short - has too much shit on his plate to mess up what could be something good. So he keeps his distance. But when in short succession the bane of his existence is taken care of by fate, and Deanna's sordid past is about to catch up with her, it appears its all systems go. And Griz does not let any grass grow on this opportunity. He moves in, and moves in hard.
For once, Hell Mouth is stunned silent by the sudden events, and before she has a chance to recharge her vocal batteries, she finds herself shacked up and not only under Griz' protection, but UNDER Griz..... Yea, like that!

I had so anticipated this book, and was not disappointed. I loved Deanna in the first book, her mouth is legendary and lethal and Griz is my dream MC guy. Older, gruff, still pretty hot to trot, but with a huge soft core, which you get to see LOTS of in this book. But you won't lose any of his badassery, no worries. He is the prime example of the bi-polar nature of the MC man - at least - my dream version of one.
I always wonder when authors come up with the heroes in their books, whether they are pulled together with qualities they themselves would be attracted to, perhaps they know someone like that? Or does Lila Rose know me so well, that she can conjure up my perfect man? I think if Griz where to stand in front of me, I'd be a puddle. So tell me, Lila? Do you have someone you'd like to introduce me to??
Deanna is deconstructed in this book. She really is. You'll remember her as a fairly hard-nosed bitch who is fiercely protective of her besties and loathes to get emotional. Well. Be prepared for reluctant meltdowns. Deanna had good reason for building her walls so high and so tough, but with all the sappy happiness going on around her, it stands to reason she was going to go down at some point. She goes down with a bang, people. It's almost too easy.......
I love a heroine who can hold her own and kick some serious arse.... be it verbally or physically. It just makes me feel good about my gender. So sue me. And Lila Rose gives me the perfect heroine to dote on - Deanna. A woman who's been through hell but pulled herself out, snarls and bites at whomever comes too close, except those she invites in, who she loves and protects with all her being. Fabulous! I wish I was that woman!
The storyline itself is not particularly unique, but I think the way the focus was placed in this book, and the seamless and engaging writing style by Lila Rose more than makes up for the expected path of the story.

I was really lucky to be gifted this book by the author. Let me start by saying that before I started reading Climbing Out, I re-read Holding Out. I had forgotten how fantastic that book was, and Climbing Out did not disappoint!! Loved that I got to see the whole gang again Talon, Kitten, the kids, bikers and Matt and Julian... who can forget him?! Might be one of my all time favorites. This book is HOT!! Griz finally claims Deanna ! Griz/Grady with that dirty mouth of his is totally equaled by Deanna/ Hell Mouth, slowly you see her changing for the better and we get to know more of her back story. Griz is all badass, older with an adorable "secret", we see another side of him!! As for Zara and Deanna, what can I say they continue to be foul mouth hellions and I wouldn't change a thing about them.

I read both books back to back, not that you have to, but it just was helpful to do it that way. They're both standalones so totally not an issue to read them separately. I was totally surprised that the ball busting bitch, Dee, could be so emotional. She so strong and sassy in the books that I was pleasantly surprised to see her sister side. Now Griz. That wasn't a surprise. His character is written so well. He so alpha but soft. Dominant but lovable. And with his daughter. Nothing is sexier than a man with his child. The way he loved her and just wanted to hold her. Who wouldn't want to watch that. The plan the man had to take care of Hell Mouth is nothing short of hilarious. And the first night Griz is there is nothing short of priceless. I'm glad that Lila didn't take it where she could have and make Dee get pregnant super early in the story or as a surprise. One pregnancy for this MC club is enough, especially with how kitten was. This book follows suit as holding out did with being able to hold it's own with plenty of drama yet a pleasant mix of sex and sass and softness. And don't think I forgot about the humor. Maybe not a funny as book one, but it's still there and enjoyable. I think Lila did an amazing job with this sequel. She still stuck with the same type of storyline as the first and kept with the alpha-amazingness of the first one. Now if we can just help Pick.

Climbing Out (Hawks Motorcycle Club, #2) by Lila Rose

In Climbing Out we revisit the Hawks Motorcycle Club and catch up with some old friends. Although this could be read as a stand-alone, I strongly recommend reading Holding Out first.
Climbing Out is Deanna and Griz's story. They had a powerful connection in the first book of this series and now their pasts have caught up to them. Griz has some new responsibility he must shoulder. He has a young daughter most people do not know about, including Deanna. Deanna has been avoiding everyone for weeks and when Griz finds out it's because she might be in danger, he vows to keep her safe.
I liked the way this book flowed,it was almost as if there was not a break at all between publication dates. I enjoyed the humor and catching up on the other characters. Talon and Zara are very busy in this book. The story seemed a little rushed and the characters a little underdeveloped. That being said it is a good story with humor, suspense, and hot sex.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and will read the next one in the series.
