In the run-up to the UAE's 44th National Day, 71 per cent of the UAE residents say their country is well on track to becoming an innovation-led economy, a survey has found. About 79 per cent expatriates called the country a "happy, welcoming and peaceful society".
The findings from a new YouGov study also reveal that UAE residents believe the country is a major player on the regional and world stage, with 69 per cent believing it plays an important role in the global economy and in maintaining stability in the Arab world.
Most of the respondents associate the UAE with tourism (34 per cent), followed by business opportunities (33 per cent) and high cost of living (33 per cent). Association with the high cost of living was largely felt among expats (35 per cent) compared to Emiratis (15 per cent). Respondents feel the UAE is achieving impressive growth in gender equality and political empowerment of women (both 67 per cent).
Human development is also believed to be on a strong path, with 69 per cent of respondents agreeing it is developing well. About 66 per cent of respondents also agreed that the development of humanitarian assistance is positively supporting the UAE's foreign policy.
When considering the upcoming 44th UAE National Day, respondents say they mostly associate the day with unity (50 per cent). This was followed by patriotism (38 per cent), independence (35 per cent) and pride (30 per cent).
About the first Commemoration Day that was marked on Monday, 79 per cent believe the day will bring a "meaningful change to UAE National Day celebrations".
