See 21-year-old U-M student settle into tiny house it took him 2 years to build

University of Michigan junior computer science major Christopher Cerk is taking a different approach to college living this year.

Earlier this week the 21-year-old moved back into the county for the start of the school year, but unlike others who moved into an apartment or dorm room, Cerk brought his house with him--a tiny house to be specific.

For the past two summers, Cerk has put more than 700 hours into building his 170-square-foot house. It took him $13,000 in materials, and he made an agreement with a local landowner to park his trailer-mounted home on a piece of property in the Ann Arbor area.

Tiny houses aren't allowed in Ann Arbor because of legal constraints, so Cerk and the owner asked for the location to remain anonymous.
