Update: Victim identified in fatal pedestrian accident

Update: Shreveport Police have identified the female killed following a pedestrian versus vehicle crash last Sunday afternoon in west Shreveport.
At approximately 3:35 p.m. on Oct. 25, Shreveport police responded to a major crash occurring in the 5300 block of Hearne Avenue. Upon arrival, it was learned 58-year-old Rhonda Damron suffered serious injuries after being struck by a 1999 GMC pickup truck that was traveling north bound on Hearne Avenue. Damron was transported from the scene, to University Health hospital in the 1500 block of Kings Highway, where she succumbed to her injuries. 
Shreveport Police Crash investigators were summoned to the scene of the accident, launching an immediate investigation.

Preliminary information and evidence recovered at the crash site suggests the Rhonda Damron was struck by the pickup, while attempting to cross Hearne Avenue.  The driver of the pickup truck, driven by 75-year-old Jimmy Wells of Keithville, was detained at the scene of the crash. At this time, impairment on the part of the driver or pedestrian is unknown; however, toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
