HALLOWEEN HOME STAND
Emporia State is set to finish out the regular season with two home games.  The Hornets will host Washburn on Friday October 30 and then finish  the weekend and the regular season against Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday November 1. Both the Turnpike Tussle on Friday and Sunday's Senior Day will be played at the EHS Pitch.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Emporia State fell 1-0 to Fort Hays Sunday afternoon in Hays, Kan. Emporia State had ten shot attempts on the day. Fort Hays had six shot attempts, converting one in the 71st minute that would put the Tigers ahead for the win.
 
THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 32-42-16 in his fifth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history. He is 12-11-2 over his last 25 matches dating back to last year.  He is 5-1-2 against Washburn and 2-2-1 against Nebraska-Kearney.
Chris Jones is a first year as the Ichabods head coach after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant at Fort Hays State.
John Maessner is a fourth year head coach for Nebraska-Kearney and has an overall record of 25-35-11.
 
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Amelie Heun is tied for first in the MIAA and 26th in the nation in both goals scored and total points. She is second on the list for Emporia State single season goals and points scored. Grace Linton has five goals while McKenzie Koch and Kelsey Wakefield each have three goals this season. The Hornets have had eight different scorers on 249 attempted shots to their opponents 208 while outscoring them 32-19 this year. Goal keeper Yadira Rivera has played and started in 14 of the Hornets 16 games. She has 64 saves and five solo and one combined shut outs on the season. She is seventh in the MIAA in saves.
 
SCOUTING THE ICHABODS
Washburn is 4-7-5, and 3-4-2 in the MIAA. They have been outscored by opponents 19-14 on the season. Paige Swanson leads the Ichabods with four goals, followed by Emily Stauffer with three goals and five others with at least one goal.
 
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 25th meeting between the two teams in the soccer version of the Turnpike Tussle. Washburn leads the all-time series 8-12-4 but Emporia State is 5-1-2 over the last eight matches and has not lost to the Ichabods since 2012.
 
LAST TIME AGAINST WU
The Hornets opened the scoring early when McKenzie Koch scored on a header from Amelie Heun just 4:59 into the match. The score remained 1-0 until Heun headed a free kick from Koch in off the right post with just 4:27 left. Jaide Allenbrand sealed the match with a goal from Kelsey Wakefield's corner with 2:28 left. There were a total of 43 fouls and 7 yellow cards in the match between the two rival schools.
 
SCOUTING THE LOPERS
Nebraska-Kearney is 4-8-4, 3-4-2 in the MIAA. They have been outscored 32-16 and outshot 199-141 on the season.  Montanna Hosterman leads the Lopers offensive attack with four goals on the season.
 
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the sixth meeting between Emporia State and Nebraska-Kearney after the Lopers joined the MIAA in 2012. The series between the two teams is tied 2-2-1.
 
LAST TIME AGAINST UNK
The Hornets jumped on top in the 13th minute as Grace Linton scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist from Maria Walden.  Jacki Martinek then scored on a break away in the 27th minute to put Emporia State up 2-0.  Martinek then assisted on a corner for the final goal as Jaide Allenbrand converted in the 71st minute to give the Hornets a 3-0 victory over the Lopers.
 
UP NEXT
Emporia State could finish as high as the third seed or miss the MIAA tournament completely.  A win and a tie this weekend would guarantee a spot in the first round on Nov. 4.
