It’s one and done for FX‘s The Comedians.
Showrunner Ben Wexler announced on Twitter that the comedy starring Billy Crystal and Josh Gad would not be returning for a second season.
“#TheComedians is cancelled at FX. I could not be more proud of the work we all did,” he wrote.
Despite its star power and a creative team that included Larry Charles and Matt Nix, the remake of the Swedish series opened to 878,000 viewers in live-plus-same-day returns. The comedy wrapped its 13-episode run June 25 with 306,000 same-day viewers.
Produced in-house by FX Productions, The Comedians marks a rare comedy miss for the cable network. The last half-hours to be nixed after one season at FX included animated entries Chozen and Unsupervised and 10/90 entries Saint George and Partners.
FX’s upcoming comedy lineup includes Zach Galifianakis/Louis C.K. entry Baskets as well as returning favorites Louie and Archer. The cabler this month launched Denis Leary’s Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, which set a live-plus-3 viewing record.
