Is it annoying when Princess Sofia says ‘It’s wonderful to be a princess’?

143427PCN_Sweden03

Since everyone seems to be interested in a wider array of royal coverage, here are some additional photos from the short in-country tour undertaken by Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip of Sweden. These pics are mostly from their trip to the village of Idre. Sofia wore a knit cap! While I used to think Sofia had kind of downmarket vibe to her “look,” I think she’s working with some good people and she seems softer now that she’s a princess. In some photos, she has a very ‘70s supermodel look that’s really interesting. Anyway, I keep referring to Sofia as “Princess Sofia,” because that’s actually her title now. She’s Princess Sofia, the Duchess of Värmland. She became a princess AND a duchess with her marriage. And she enjoys her title too. During this tour, she said as much:

Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia continued their two-day trip down memory lane to the town of Älvdalen in Dalarna County on Tuesday, where Sofia grew up.

“I must say I’m pleasantly surprised at what an incredible response you get from people and how much fun it is,” Sofia said according to Swedish outlet Svensk Dam when asked about her first 116 days as a member of the royal family. “It’s wonderful to be a princess.”

For her first homecoming as a princess, Sofia was visibly moved to tears as she stood by one of the area’s traditional wooden homes, reports the Swedish newspaper Expressen.

“It was pretty nervous coming home here today in an entirely new role. It feels unbelievable,” said the royal newlywed, 30. “The years I spent here made me who I am today. Dalarna will always have a very important place in my heart – especially Älvdalen.”

The princess apologized to locals for not speaking to them in the traditional Norse dialect of Elfdalian, which she described as our unique language.

“Sadly I grew up as part of a generation where [learning to speak Elfdalian] was not particularly cool,” she said. “So I’ve a lot of homework to catch up on to be a true Älvdaling.”

[From People]

God, can you imagine the crap we would give Duchess Kate if she said “It’s wonderful to be a princess”? It’s worth pointing out that all of the talk about Kate’s title comes from the press (People Mag still insists on calling her Princess Kate and no one is buying it) and from Prince William, who refers to his wife’s job title as “Princess of the Realm.” So why isn’t my eye twitching when Sofia says, “It’s wonderful to be a princess”? Is it because she said it while she was doing her ninth royal event in like three days, and she’s managed to do her work without exposing herself repeatedly, whilst fondling her hair?

Oh come on, if she was all “It’s awful being a princess, it’s so hard and you peasants just don’t appreciate how dreadful being wealthy and beautiful can be,” we’d be tearing her to pieces.

She has a very, very nice life and she appreciates that. Good on her.

    • Suze says:

Exactly – it’s all in context. And it’s in the fact that she has been consistently working since she surfaced after her honeymoon.

      • Meaghan says:

When I read this article I rolled my eyes and thought ‘of COURSE it’s nice being a princess’

It’s nice to see her admit it and not do the whole ‘woe is me my life is so hard’ schtick

      • FLORC says:

All this all day long! She’s enjoying her life and marriage. She dove right onto work even before the wedding and she’s not complaining. She appears very grounded and I’m warming to her faster than I thought.

    • Sea Dragon says:

      +1

    • xmas in july says:

Seriously, it’s got to be awesome to be a princess! I think she phrased it well. I don’t understand this entire article.

      • Lori says:

She sounds very appreciative and humble. Maybe the difference is that her husband is not trying to present them as Normal Bill does.

    • Darlene says:

      Amen!

    • Sarah (another one) says:

Yes. And if Kate said it after actually doing some work and being…you know…. “Princess of the Realm” in deeds as well as words, then I wouldn’t side-eye her either. If she said it now, it would reek of privilege because the only thing she’s done as part of her job is pop out 2 babies. Princess Sofia actually seems to be enjoying the work, whereas Kate seems to enjoy the privilege but cringe at the work.

      • Nancy says:

Agreed. This woman is working it big time. She has every right to be happy helping other people. Good for her!!!

    • sherry says:

Yes, I get the feeling her quote comes from a place of gratitude, which is why it’s not coming across as bitchy. She’s been hard at work since becoming a princess and again, I think it’s because she is grateful for the blessings that come with her title and feels she should give back.

OTH – I always get the feeling that the “Princess of the Realm” feels a bit entitled and has more of the “I’m a princess, I shouldn’t have to work. Leave me be so I can pretend to be Middle Class while I shop and vacation, because it’s so hard to be a princess.”

      • FLORC says:

        Sherry
I was left with the same impression. “Princess” is not as much a job as it is a role on today’s age. The job is what you do with that role/title.

      • puffinlunde says:

Interesting that Sofia is getting such good press here as the Swedish press is today full of articles that suggest she has been throwing her royal weight about to get Carl Phillps’s ex thrown off the guest list for the Royal Christening this weekend despite the ex being a really good friend of Princess Madeleine!

      • aaa says:

The story just came out so it may get covered by the UK and US media, The more credible Swedish media outlet said it was Carl Philip, rumored to be one of the godfathers, who objected to his ex attending his nephew’s christening.

      • sauvage says:

Also, am I the only one who totally understands not wanting your husband’s ex around at a family event? I also totally understand not wanting your ex around, in casae it was Philip’s doing. Regardless whether it came from Prince Philip or Princess Sofia, I get it. Perfectly human.

    • Gorgonia says:

My same thoughts, exactly. At least a privileged person who doesn’t complain about her luck.

    • Nic says:

I think it was a really nice way of saying things! She knows she’s living a pretty sweet life and she acknowledges that, but she also makes it clear that it’s not *just* about how she is financially set–she mentions how wonderful it is to be getting such a positive response/welcome from people. And yes, the fact that she is consistently showing up to events certainly helps.

If Kate were to say something like this, it would be hard to imagine she was referring to anything other than the privilege of being able to vacation and shop as much as she likes, given her poor work showing and tendency to arrive late/leave early/cancel at the last minute.

      • CMiddy says:

I completely agree – I love the fact she is acknowledging the privilege. Contrast the Lazy Duo’s completely mis-guided comment that they didn’t want their kids to be restricted to growing up “behind palace walls”* *Prob misquoted but you get the gist….

    • Shaz says:

Yes, she didn’t sound full of herself, she said that the responses of people she met were what made it great to be a princess.

    • evermoreOriginalhere says:

I just saw this RETWEET on the BritishMonarchy twitter site. It’s the site run by royal.gov.UK Sophie Countess of Wessex is called Princess Sophie and they retweeted it.

Tweet: via@HiaQuatar – “World Sight Day with Fundraising Activities at @HIAQatar Joined by HRH Princess Sophie. @/ukorbis @/qcharity

Kate fans may go into meltdown……LOL.

    • Pmnichols says:

I agree. If she’s happy with her life and doing good things and helping others I say good for her!!

  2. India says:

Princess Sofia is going to embrace her new position. I believe she is going to be magnificent in this role.

    • BearcatLawyer says:

She worked hard enough to win him. She should embrace the new role she so desperately wanted. But oddly I think you are right: she seems like the kind of person who will rise to the occasion no matter what.

      • sienna says:

She certainly didn’t work harder than Kate for the ring though. That is what I find so odd about the DoC… 9 years of waiting, and then not wanting the responsibilities of the life you worked so hard to get.

      • OhDear says:

Yeah, I’m not her biggest fan but she’s been doing a great job in her role so far and appreciates the privileges that come with the role.

      • aaa says:

Did Sofia really work hard to get Carl Philip? Did she even have to? He seems quite taken with her.

    • kcarp says:

Am I the only one mentally calling her Sofia the First?

I was a girl in the village doing alright then I became a Princess overnight.

      Too much Disney Jr.

  3. megs283 says:

I think I’d love to be a princess! Who wouldn’t! The privacy situation stinks, but there are so many other perks (including the power to make change).

    • Betsy says:

      +1
She’s actually doing her job, and well. Why hate that she’s loving her job/role?

    • FLORC says:

The privacy issue IMO is what you make of it. If you give, give, give you have less time for secrets and and the press/ your PR have much to drown those scandal stories should they occur.

Those who preach the loudest, demand privacy, etc… Are the ones with the most to hide as history has taught us.
      Idle time is the worst.

  4. Lilacflowers says:

So much better than whining about how difficult it is to live up to the expectations of being a princess. Good for her. More Princess Sophia – and since she seems to be keen on doing “princess work,” there should be stories to cover.

    • Shambles says:

      *Honks*

Yes to more Princess Sofia! I really, really like her. The difference here is that she loves being a princess because she actually does her job, instead of throwing out an endless string of excuses. The difference is that she’s a truly genuine person, and that comes through in photos and sound bites. Why shouldn’t she love being a princess? She’s the golden example of quality princessing. One must properly princess in order to love being one.

      • senna says:

I love both Princess Sofia’s attitude (which, to me, seems strangely humble, recognizing what a privilege it is to be a princess, and talking about the role with enthusiasm) and your comment! Quality princessing indeed :).

      • zinjojo says:

Shambles, I love, “golden example of quality princessing”. Ha! DK should start taking notes.

And I think her statement, said in context of how meaningful she finds her new role is right on. She’s doing it for the right reasons, not just the perks.

      • FLORC says:

        I’ll HONK to that!

And she’s got the gorgeous eyes with the light brown hair that makes me think 70’s model.

And there wasn’t much time talking about prepping for work. She just showed up and did it. Dressed for the occasion and did it.
I’m still no fan of this archaic Establishment, but if it must exist still good she’s working and respecting her role. It’s not a burden and shouldn’t be viewed as such.

    • Kitten says:

      Honkety-honk.

She’s a nice antidote to you-know-who. She’s also very beautiful as well.

      • Cricket says:

Add me to the yes, please list! I admit, I know nothing of her past aside from the brief mentions here. From reading the article, based solely on her quotes here, I think she comes off as endearing and humbled. I think her remark about being a princess was in terms of the role itself and that she will take it seriously and do her best to make her home town and country proud.

Let’s focus on the part where she is apologetic for not learning the local language and stating she has a lot to learn etc.. she seems authentic – dare I say? Unlike a Duchess who would rather get her princess lessons in hair weaves and fly up skirts?

The photo at the end where she is with her husband and the villagers, she seems very proud. Good on her and I wish her the best!

      • Olenna says:

Yes, a real antidote. Plus, she makes me smile, so I forgive her. Just kidding! There’s nothing wrong with the comment. She’s relating how she feels about the reception she receives from regular folks. It makes her happy. Does Katie Middleton Windsor Bucket ever look happy?

    • bluhare says:

Beep!! I think so too. And the other thing . . . she talked! She gave some quotes that sounded natural and unscripted (whether they were or not, they sounded like it). If Kate said that much we’d be ready to give her the Nobel prize for oratory.

      • Vava says:

        LOL…….so true.
        Bet Jason is squirming.

      • Cricket says:

YES! she came off as authentic and not afraid to speak .. how refreshing!

      • Sharon Lea says:

Yes! Her comments sounded off the cuff, but genuine. As others are saying, she sounds like she has gratitude. She is ‘hitting the job running’ (like what we hoped Kate might do, but didn’t.)

And yes, I am seeing the cool retro 70s model vibe too and like seeing what clothes she chooses, her hair etc.

The Swedish family is a royal family that I feel fits the times, I’m glad its covered here.

  5. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I think, in context, she meant to say that the reception she has received has been heartwarming to her. “It’s wonderful to be a princess” on its own is a little cringe-worthy, but I don’t think she meant anything obnoxious.

Perfectly shallow observation – She’s one of the few people I’ve ever seen who looked beautiful in a knit cap.

    • zimmer says:

Funny I think so many people are beautiful in knit caps, I think because there’s such a facial emphasis.

Either way, Sophia’s honesty and genuine kindness is what makes her statement okay. It does not come across as bragging as it would with Kate. All in the attitude and the vibe you put out with others and Kate has convinced few that she cares with her mannerisms amd few and far between ‘assignments’.

      • Chinoiserie says:

Knit caps are in fashion for under 30 year old women were I live (since the winters are so cold it is good thing hats are in fashion), you can look great while wearing one if you pick cute one and have your hair like Sophia does.

Her statements make sound like she is very happy and excited, it is nice to hear people being happy with their life. If she was constantly telling this it would be too much probably but I doubt she would do that.

    • Malificent says:

That’s how I read it too. In the context of her warm reception. And it’s pretty clear from her words that she expects that gaining acceptance will be an uphill battle for her. And she even handled the issue about not learning her local dialect deftly — I’m sure it was a talking point that was discussed ahead of time, but her response was appropriate and diplomatic.

      • Lotta says:

Actually, Älvdalska is not a dialect, it’s aminority language that is spoken by only 3000 people today. I think it’s great that she sheds some light on this language that is under threat of disappearing. 🙂

      • Malificent says:

@Lotta. Thanks for the scoop — I learn something new every day!

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I don’t think knit caps are ugly or anything, or that most people look terrible in them, I just think most people look cute at best. She looks really stunning. It just struck me. Maybe because I look gross in them?

      • zimmer says:

I’m sure you don’t. We all have different fashion preferences GNT. Hope I didn’t sound rude. I find that you make great comments, btw and the world would be boring if we saw everything the same way!

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Oh, no, not rude at all! I thought I made too broad of a statement and wanted to clarify. I agree the world would be very boring if we all wore the same thing!

  6. Linn says:

Can I just say that Elfdalian and Älvdaling sounds so cute like it’s straight out of some fantasy universe.

I like Sofia and I’m not critizing her for saying she enjoys being a princess. She was asked about how she likes it and what she said sounds like a pretty harmless answer. Imagine she had said something negative.

And she looks really beautiful, especially in the first picture.

    • WinnieCoopersMom says:

I know haha! Those languages sound like they are from Lord of the Rings or something lol .. What an interesting part of the world!

    • BooBooLaRue says:

this! she seems sincere and very genuine and wow is she pretty!

  7. INeedANap says:

It’s not annoying because she seems grateful for the platform the position offers her to make a positive impact in her country. I wasn’t a fan at first, but she’s shown so far that young party girls can grow up and make a difference. 🙂

  8. Jan says:

And meanwhile, Kate is adding extensions in her third hair appointment this week….

    • Vava says:

hahahaha. She’d never wear a cap like that either, it would smash all the volume.

    • Cricket says:

And screaming at Jason because Sophia is stealing her Princess spotlight.. and God forbid .. without veneers and weaves!

  9. Nan says:

I get an 80’s Linda Evanglista vibe in these pics.

  10. PHD Gossip says:

She got lovely highlights instead of that black Elvira hair.

  11. Momoko says:

Finally, I see a princess, who isn’t wearing wedge heels or skinny jeans…Practical clothing on a royal, who would have thunk it?

Queen Elizabeth has been one of the most hard working royals of her/our time, Princess Diana was close, but hardly avoided scandal.

If the poor old lass expected our dear Duchess “upskirt” Kate to fill those shoes, I think, she is sorely disappointed.

  12. Betti says:

She’s owning it – nothing wrong with that and good for her. She wanted this life and is stepping up, its all that’s kinda expected of people who marry into that situation.

For those who want to compare with Katie Bucket – Sofia has always worked hard for a career whatever it was, she’s shown she has a work ethic.

  13. Dena says:

Action speaks louder than words. Kate doesn’t verbally say it but her actions prove it.

I’ve always liked Sofia. Not everything she’s done or said but I like the fact that she seems to be her own woman (unlike Kate) and living life on her own terms (unlike Kate). I also like that Sofia has lived outside of Sweden & has experienced the world a bit.

She’s comfortable in her own skin (unlike Kate) and it shows. I identify with that and respect that in a person.

    • Dena says:

Clarication: Kate loves being a princess because of the perks & status & how she spend her time is reflective of that. That’s what I meant by actions speaking louder than words.

  14. Izzy says:

In context it seems like she was referring to enjoying not only the duties entailed by the job, but also the warm reception she received from the locals she met when she returned there for thr first time in her royal role.

Katie Bucket, take notes. THIS is how you princess.

  15. LCW says:

Why should anyone be mad about that? Her version of a Princess is doing her duties and getting praise for her good work as she should so she embraces all aspects of the role.
If Kate said this it would be different because she doesn’t carry out the role of a Princess just the perks.

    • imo says:

Exactement!!!! For Kate, it’s all about the perks and riding the royal gravy train. Not a sense of duty, but a sense of entitlement.

  16. Astrid says:

No shade from me. She’s out and about doing her royal work.

  17. kit says:

Can we also give a shout out to her and Carl Philip looking so happy together. Not just tolerating each other, actually happy!

    • Vava says:

I’ve never seen a royal groom look so in love with his bride as he did on his wedding day. They both were and are glowing.

    • WinnieCoopersMom says:

They are gorgeous together, and a lot of that is bc of how in love and in sync they look with one another. Like a true team. Loving them. I hope Harry finds a hard working girl with a grateful attitude like this. Sofia is really setting the bar with what a married-into Princess/Royal should be.

  18. LAK says:

In the context of entire conversation, it’s not annoying. She *is* acknowledging what is good about it.

    • wolfie says:

She was pleasantly surprised by the incredible response she got from people, and I agree with her, who wouldn’t find that fun? (not Will & Kate) What a gracious response to the love she received! After reading a bit of the hate about her prior lifestyle, I am relieved by the warm reception of her countrymen. I hope that they have a wonderful life together.

There’s something fishy going on with William and Kate. Why all the resentment and bad feelings they are putting out about their positions, while curiously snubbing others with their perceived entitlements? Poor, poor royals, indeed! Put them away in a box somewhere! It’s offensive.

      • FLORC says:

        Wolfie

It’s a great example on how someone marrying into royalty can turn the worst bad press around into praise from just a few events and appreciating your level of privilege.

Sofia entered with the worst age in the media. She does a few events right away and appears genuinely aware of her position. Suddenly many forgive her the past errors.
Kate entered with best PR, didn’t work and it went downhill.
Point being it takes very little to fix an image.

      • LAK says:

People who marry royalty are lucky in one respect which I that they are completely whitewashed. A do-over so to speak. What they go on to do after the white washing is where they show their mettle.

At this point in her royal career, Sofia doesn’t seem in danger of ruining her white washed image.

Kate ruined it in a matter of days, not even weeks with the statement and Waitrose ‘grocery shopping’ photo op that said she had no intention of doing royal work, but would be a housewife instead. Which would have been fine, if they hadn’t spent the prior 6mths teling us she was itching to work, and the prior 4 yrs telling us the lack of a royal title was preventing her from working.

  19. Megan says:

I get the sense that she enjoys the privileges but that she also really enjoys the work too. That’s why it doesn’t bother me

  20. Alix says:

Once again, the Duchess of Cambridge IS a princess (Princess William, someday Princess of Wales), but in Britain, you don’t get the courtesy title of “princess” in front of your name unless you were born with it (obviously, it’s different in Sweden). Technically, Diana was never “Princess Diana” either, she was the Princess of Wales, full stop.

    • Snappyfish says:

Exactly this. The duchess of Cambridge is her proper title (for now) she is also a princess, countess & baroness as William has all of those titles. Just as Camilla is (sorry but true) the princess of Wales along with other titles but buckingham palace knew people would go nuts if she where styled as such. Charles is the duke of Cornwall so Duchess of that she was styled.

As for all the Kate hate. She has produced her heir & a spare & isn’t upstaging the crown. Which IS her duty. She will get to her duties when the Queen wants her. The Queen & William have always been close although Zara is said to be her favorite. The strings are pulled by QEII

Being a princess with no chance of being Queen is quite different & I’m sure far more easy breezy & fun than being the mother of a future Monarch

      • bluhare says:

I somehow don’t think Kate has to worry about upstaging the crown.

But I would like to know how raising a lowly child is so much easier than raising a future monarch. And Diana was easy and breezy too, and she certainly could have been queen had things turned out differently.

      • zinjojo says:

“…She will get to her duties when the Queen wants her.”

Hahahaha. Oh, that’s a good one. Neither DK or PW will work unless forced. I think they’ve both made that very clear.

      • anne_000 says:

I don’t think it was an actual ‘duty’ to birth children, because that would mean that William should divorce her if she (or even he) was infertile. And the lineage would continue onto Harry and then about a dozen other English-born BRFs and not to a foreign royal house.

QE2 doesn’t dictate Kate’s work schedule. Each BRF member does that on their own.

There’s no way that Kate is capable of upstaging the Queen, because there’s no way Kate will start to appreciate the value of doing regular work and understand what it means for the ‘little people’ her work may help. In what we’ve seen so far, it’s obvious she’s usually unprepared for the ‘work’ itself. Is this any competition for the Queen?

How is Kate being a mother more difficult than any other mother? It can’t be the royal things, because both W&K don’t appreciate and do much of those types of duties. Since they don’t, they don’t have the kind of practice that even someone much farther down the line like Duchess Sophie does. Practice makes perfect.

So how are they going to teach their kids to respect, learn, and do royal work when there was even a press conference by Normal Bill who said there is no such thing as full-time royal work.

What are the titles actually worth if all you do is sit on them and not use them for the benefit of others, but just enjoy them for yourself and all the perks you get?

      • FLORC says:

        @SNAPPYFISH

It’s been stated numerous times on the record, in print, in video, by their own words, and by official PR Kate decides her own schedule. She is only not working because that is her choice. The Queen has nothing to do with that at all. Only Kate and William decide when and where Kate works.

These are fully established facts repeated and confirmed year after year. To believe otherwise is false information.

      • aaa says:

IMO it is Kate and William’s job to secure the line of succession. If they could not meet this expectation then other arrangements would have been made, namely put a boatload of pressure on Harry to marry someone suitable and have children.

I don’t think that Kate being able to make her own schedule and the Queen having the power to order her (and William) to take on more duties are contradictions. IMO the Queen has that power and has not exercised it, the question is why? Is she OK with how William and Kate are conducting themselves? Is she a wimp? Is she scared? Is she too old to fight this fight? something else?

      • FLORC says:

        AAA
TQ doesn’t step in unless she has no other option. I think that’s a trait many overlook with her and ignoring that leads to praise. Ignoring an issue and hoping eventually everyone forgets about it is an awful way to deal with things, but it’s her method.

Of anyone needs Kate to work more it’s PC, TQ, and the Monarchy as a whole.

      • aaa says:

I think that if William and Kate became hard-working royals they would become the undisputed stars of the BRF, however I don’t think that the Queen would have a problem with them “upstaging” her and other royals, I think that it bodes well for the survival of the monarchy if the public connects with the younger generation, especially the heirs apparent and their families.

      • bluhare says:

I don’t think it qualifies as an actual duty either, but it certainly was expected that they would provide an heir. William seemed surprised when he was asked whether they’d have children in their engagement interview.

      • aaa says:

        @FLORC,
Yes the Queen’s penchant for putting her head in the sand is well known among royal watchers. It seems like you are addressing my question as to why she has not exercised her power to order William and Kate to do more royal work. I agree with your assessment and think that is the main reason, I think other lesser factors are that due to the Queen’s age and the frailty that goes along with it, she is picking and choosing battles, and also that it does not bother her as much as it bothers certain royal watchers.

      • LAK says:

AAA/Florc: apart from her ostrich method of dealing with family firm issues, you are also forgeting that it was always either Philip who dealt with any issues OR public crisis forced HM to act.

Remember how many years she let the war of the Waleses drag on? And that was a multi-faceted toxic series of mutual attacks by Charles and Diana. Definitely no positives there. She only acted AFTER Diana put out that toxic panorama interview in which she practically handed the monarchy to the republicans.

Not to mention Diana’s funeral, paying tax, Margaret’s Townsend affair and so on. Each time she’s waited until the situation is at it’s worst and by that I mean the public is foaming at the mouth, before she acts.

Right now, between the sacharine PR, not to mention William gagging or not co-operating with traditional press and thereby controlling what is being written about him, situation seems under control and the masses are not revolting. Should something happen that sees the public begin to revolt, she’ll act.

Not a moment sooner than that.

And Philip is too old to do these things anymore. He’s more or less handed the reins to Charles and unfortunately Charles doesn’t appear to know what to do about William except call him out in the press.

      • FLORC says:

        LAK
What a terrible unhealthy dynamic. With that behavior they’ve doomed themselves.

When a sense of duty isn’t present and shaming you publicly gets you no further what is left to do? Tough love doesn’t appear likely in this scenario.

    • OverFirstAve. says:

Kate is like Sarah was, HRH The Duchess of York, but also HRH The Princess Andrew. As with Sophie, who is also a Princess, being HRH The Princess Edward.

The difference is Diana was HRH The Princess of Wales and universally called either The Princess of Wales or Princess Diana, by both the British Press and the World’s press. It wasn’t just one magazine PEOPLE five years into the marriage still practically being the only ones trying to make Princess Kate thing happen…it’s just NOT happening, even the British press doesn’t call her that. People mGazine just looks silly doing so at this point.
What will People Mag do call Kate ! Queen Kate, when she becomes POW…lol they just keep trying to give her some magic with the fake Princess Kate title, but it has not worked. Even the British reporters roll their eyes that they are still trying to make it happen. LMAO

Diana had something beyond her title of Princess, Diana had real charisma, genuine warmth and magic of her own. Millions of people were truly drawn to Diana the girl, the woman and it was real, not manufactured.

  21. OverFirstAve. says:

The Swedish Palace just a few days before the wedding said she would be called Princess even though they listed her full other titles ,so no it doesn’t bother me that she’s called that. The Swedish Palace was cleàr she was going to be called Princess and even if she is called by her other titles, too, I doubt she would care, she looks ecstatically happy to be in her role , with her husband and she has hit the ground running as far as being a working new Royal wife. She has been doing a good job so far in her role. She seems quite personable and warm with the public.
Kudos to her. She and Pr. Carl Phillip seem to be really happy.

The problem with Kate is she doesn’t work, her Pr team keeps promising she s going to hit the ground running every year yet she is STILL not working much. Also I think People Magazine keeps trying MAKE Kate into some Magical being to try to make her have the magic Diana had ,but IT’s NOT HAPPENING! Even shoving the fake Princess Kate title in their pages hasn’t helped her , Kate just doesn’t have charisma or warmth, even when they keep trying to prop her up.

The Duchess of Cambridge is an illustrious beautiful title, I can never understand why it bothers PEOPLE magazine and some of Kate’s fan’s so much?

    • Vava says:

Part of Kate’s problem is she has no work experience and she seems afraid to get some! I really don’t see her doing that anytime soon. She puts her energy into her physical appearance, and that only. People expect more than that in this day and age.

    • Feeshalori says:

I actually love the Duchess of Cambridge title as well. Too bad the holder of that title can’t do it the justice it deserves. I think the problem that PEOPLE and the Kate fans have with it is that the title doesn’t suit the fairy tale stories they devise for her. Anything less than a princess doesn’t compute.

    • Katydid20 says:

Every time I think of Kate, I think of Mean Girls……..just like fetch is never going to happen, Princess Kate is never going to happen either.

  22. Anna says:

Wow, she looks stunning lately. Princessdom looks good on her. I think she’s got the chops to handle the press, etc. more than Kate. I am really surprised at how well she’s doing. (Off to eat crow…)

  23. Neners says:

Not that this has anything to do with the article really, but she is absolutely beautiful!

  24. 40winks says:

I think she is really happy to be married to her husband, period. She’s happy, and is simply saying how much she enjoys her new role. She is warmly received by the pubic and she makes an effort to be good at her new role. Kudos to her! I think it’s really sweet and shows her love of her new family…who wouldn’t want to be in the same family as Princess Estelle?!

  25. Birdix says:

There’s a lot of Swedish sugar in these comments! Love it.

  26. Lea says:

She looks wonderful in these pictures.
It was the best idea to go back to a natural hair colour. She had this fake blue-black hair for too long. Now with the natural colour her eyes shine and her face looks softer.

  27. Mimimonster says:

I like her positive attitude and really think she resembles Rachel Bilson.

  28. lassie says:

Not going to lie. When I read the title, I was wondering why Celebitchy was covering the opinion of a pretend Disney Jr. Princess.

  29. QQ says:

Meh! She is working her little butt off and probably preggo at that and after turning around all types of hazily calling her slutty press, She can say whatever she wants about princessing as far as i’m concerned

    • FLORC says:

She’s certainly showing a small bump on the last thread with her shirt tucked in with a belt.
They appear so in love and supportive of each other. I’m happy for them.

  30. InvaderTak says:

I’m going with ok, because that interview has got to be translated; in Sweden and talking to a Swedish outlet. The words she used might not have an English (the language of the imprecise) equivalent. At least she’s enthusiastic about her role and uses her power and position for the people.

    Any Swedes out there?

  31. TessD says:

Maybe Kate is genuinely not comfortable about being a public person and is struggling to do as much as she can before having a breakdown or something or I don’t know how those people feel in those situations?
Perhaps, she is a private person who really is afraid of public speaking and all…

    • imo says:

      Doubt it.

    • OverFirstAve. says:

I think Kate wants all the fame and perks, without the work.
Look at what she chooses, film premieres and Sporting events and mostly entertainment based duties,

      • WinnieCoopersMom says:

Yeah when they made special effort to go to Hollywood, that told me everything about where their priorities really lie.

    • Deedee says:

She really married the wrong person and took on the wrong job then. She seems to really enjoy herself around the celebs and the sports stars though.

      • aaa says:

I don’t think Kate married the wrong person. I think the person she married (Prince William) has his own set of issues. I think William and Kate are right for each other but are not the best for “the job” either individually or as a couple. JSYK I don’t think they are bad at “the job” but I think they would both rather be doing other things and that has created a strange environment and perhaps tensions among key players.

    • anne_000 says:

I’ll believe that when she stops going to events that hobnob with the rich and famous. No more meet-and-greets with Sir Ben.

Let’s see if she’ll cancel going to the upcoming Spectre movie premiere.

    • bluhare says:

I don’t know whether I agree with breakdown, but I have wondered why she did start out fairly well and then dropped off dramatically. She can’t blame it all on HG.

      • Dena says:

Perhaps she is punishing the palace cause they told her to stop flashing her ass & her nether parts @ public events?

  32. ickythump says:

Not annoying in the slightest – sweet actually, she seems such a genuine person – o how different it would be if we had these two instead of the Lamebridges….

  33. just me says:

You go girl, I ain’t mad at ya!

  34. Feeshalori says:

That phrase “it’s wonderful to be a princess” out of context is a bit cringeworthy, but I don’t begrudge Sofia taking pleasure and delight in her title because she’s putting her money where her mouth is. This is a person who really has hit the ground running and takes joy from her work and at the positive response from the people. She seems very grateful for what she has and is working hard to validate that position, unlike a certain entitled woman who just wants to reap the perks and benefits of that title.

  35. Olivia says:

I don’t know much about either royal family, but it seems as if Princess Sofia married a hard working Prince, Kate not so much.

  36. Tessa says:

    I NEED to learn elfdalian!

  37. Mmtahoe says:

I just returned least week from spending 2 weeks in Sweden and Denmark . Sweden seriously rocksI Every single person I met adores the entire royal family, while touring the Royal Palace I noticed the gift shop inside the Treasury (where the jewels, crowns, et all are kept), there are tons of souvenirs with pictures of Sofia. The Swedes consider their royals the “normal European royalty”. I shared some of us here had seen pics with Sofia looking like she was pregnant, no one had heard that, and seemed seriously curiousand delighted. Everyone I met was happy and smiling.

  38. K says:

Really what else can she say? No one wants to hear a princess complain.

She needs to fix her teeth.

    • LCW says:

She doesn’t need to fix her teeth, You think she should.

      • FLORC says:

Her teeth are white, healthy, and natural. There’s nothing to fix. Her imperfections make her, her. Glad she hasn’t changed that feature to look a little more fake and less genuine.

      • K says:

I don’t think she needs to whiten but she needed braces, it all goes back to health. I didn’t say it made her unattractive just she needs to fix them. Dental work ties to heart health.

      • cr says:

Having a gap between her front teeth doesn’t indicate she has health problems, it’s aesthetic.

      • FLORC says:

        K
Agree dental/oral health is a direct link to cardiac/internal health. At worst Sofia’s teeth aren’t straight, but that has no sign of poor health. Her gums, tongue, lining, are what to look it.

Braces could not improve her health because her mouth appears healthy.

Crooked teeth can and do exist in healthy mouths.
That said she still appears to have a set of teeth that align when she bites down, no food trapped between them, healthy gums, and teeth that appear white and without decay. That is all that needs to be taken into account from suspecting her oral health status. No braces required for many adults to have healthy mouths. More for aesthetics.

    • WinnieCoopersMom says:

I think it adds to her beauty. A very unique and endearing feature.

    • platypus says:

I don’t get this bizarre obsession with unnecessary dental work.

    • sam says:

Maybe she should get a cosmetic dentist to hack away at her healthy teeth and give her a shiny set of chicklet veneers like Duchess Kate!

    • CynicalCeleste says:

      @K, oh Kate, don’t be churlish 🙂

    • Cas says:

I honestly think if she ‘fixed’ her teeth she wouldn’t have the cute quality that she has now, she would be super sexy rather than adorable and approachable.

  39. Penelope says:

She seems so enthusiastic and anxious to do a good job–you gotta love her spirit. There’s something very natural and effortless about her…she’s just lovely.

  40. WinnieCoopersMom says:

She’s awesome. I want to be friends with her. She seems very down-to-earth, energetic and fun. Hope she keeps it up, will make for some refreshing Royal viewing.

  41. Laura says:

When Princess Sofia says how wonderful it is to be a Princess, you want to celebrate with her because she is genuine, warm, and a working Royal! Good for her!

  42. Wolf says:

I don’t find it annoying, she’s telling the truth. What WOULD be annoying is if she said it was tedious, hard work and woe-is-me.

  43. Amy M. says:

She seems more engaged in these pictures and curious about what is going on arounder while Kate just seems ill at ease around people unless she’s with her kids or her family. I mean I’m kind of like too but that’s why I don’t plan on marrying a prince so I have to pretend to be interested at events I don’t care about.

  44. NeoCleo says:

Those two people will probably have some gorgeous kids.

  45. Grant says:

Am I the only person who thinks of Matthew McConnaughey’s peen whenever I read stories on Princess Sofia? How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, anyone? Anyone??

    • FLORC says:

Lol! That movie is a favorite of mine of movies I don’t tell others I enjoy. So silly and so predictable, but I can’t help, but enjoy it!

  46. Fancyamazon says:

I think it is wonderful that someone is happy in their role in life. And she has a very privileged one, so why not admit you love it if you do?

  47. Jaded says:

The difference between Sofia and Kate is that Sofia knows she is extremely privileged but is enthusiastic about working hard for the privileges and opportunities she has been given. Kate, on the other hand, enjoys all the privileges and more but also thinks it’s her privilege to do the minimal amount of work, pump out an heir and a spare, wipe her hands and plan another trip to Mustique. Her indifference (and William’s) is unfathomable.

    • FLORC says:

      Jaded
I think it helps that her prince is by her side to assist her. There’s something to be said for the effort she gives and for her support system. They all seem strong and won’t let her bece weak. If I’ve phrased that properly

      • Jaded says:

Yes, William seems like a controlling, unsupportive and selfish jerk to be married to so she’s undoubtedly following along in his wake to keep the peace.

  48. MelBelle says:

MORE royal coverage? No thank you. Being a royal is no different than being a Kardashian except the added bonus of believing your DNA somehow makes you special.

  49. Kelly says:

Not annoying at all. She seems awesome, cute couple!!

  50. evermoreOriginalhere says:

I have a question pertaining to Princesses.
Why doesn’t the European Press ever cover Princess Angela of Lichtenstein? She’s African-American or Afro Caribbean. She’s intelligent, had a finance career, I believe before marrying the Prince.
I see stories about other Princesses married to second and third sons from Royal houses, but never her.

    • LAK says:

      She’s from Panama. Panamanian.

She’s not the only non European in the European royal families. There is Maxima, Queen of the Netherlands who is Argentinian, Marie Theresa, Grand Duchess of Luxemborg who is Cuban,Alexandra, Countess of Frederickisborg of Denmark who is Chinese, and of course in the BRF is Gary Lewis, son in law to the Duke of Gloucester who is a Maori.

    • aaa says:

The Lichtenstein royals are very rich and their role goes beyond ceremonial which is probably why we don’t hear much about them, the Princes are too busy governing and managing their billions.

    • Krishan says:

She lives in the US with her husband and son, doesn’t she? I think they’re just intensely private. The Lichtenstein royals themselves are extremely low-profile. The only times you’d see them in the press is when they attend other major royal events like weddings and coronations, Papal masses at the Vatican (they’re devout Catholics), and when they’re mingling with other European cousins like the Belgian, Austrian, Hungarian, and Luxembourg royals/aristocrats for some exclusive event or something.

  51. HoustonGrl says:

I think it’s sweet that she said that. It shows that she enjoys the positive things it brings her, and she seems to genuinely enjoy the “work” aspect (it shows on her face). Will and Kate are always pointing out, via their press people, how they want to be so normal and how intrusive the press is to their “normal” lifestyle. I really get the sense that they do NOT enjoy being a prince and princess.

    • Lisa says:

I have to say I find the reception of Sofia amusing. Of course she is happy, none of the rules that Daniel, Jonas and Emma had to follow applied to her. The royal court never made statements confirming the relationship status or in defense of them while they dated Victoria, Madeline and Carl-Philip respectively. Daniel nor Jonas attended events before they were engaged. Sofia has the press in her corner: there was no serious discussion about how she earned a living, while Daniel’s financials ( salary, taxes, investments) were reported frequently. One tabloid Svensk Damtidning (www.svenskdam.se) censored critical comments made about her. Carl-Philip works very little – he does some “designing” and car racing. Carl-Philip and Sofia have gotten what they wanted with little regard or respect for the family. Heck, they announced their engagement on Madeleine’s husband’s birthday.

  52. Katie says:

I don’t know. I think it’s a lot less annoying than kate desperately trying to convince everyone she would rather be normal

  53. FuefinaWG says:

Being an American, I hate Royalty, and think it should be abolished.
That said, I do like that they are getting some grub from an open air table that looks as though the community put it together for them. I can’t imagine those a$$holes known as “the Cambridges” ever doing that.

  54. Liberty says:

I say, good for her! She stepped up and is a wonderful princess thus far, and it”s delightful to see her doing something with the role and enjoying it and being warm and open.

and they are such a cute couple.

  55. CynicalCeleste says:

Agreeing with everyone on Princess Sofia’s charming, genuine and hardworking nature along with her apparent gratitude and obvious beauty… however, I can’t help but think that in every photo Carl Philip looks like he has the “WTF am I doing here” look on his face. Not to say he isn’t trying, just looks a lot more out of his element than his lovely partner in terms of being with the people…

  56. Jade says:

Of course it’s wonderful; she’s just owning it, being truthful and aware of her privilege.

Now I am not for royalty, this could be just PR or she could be horrid behind the scenes, but I like her for now. She has been chasing this for years and knows what she is getting into but is not whining and saying “It’s wonderful to be a princess…erh whatever royal work means.” So, it’s refreshing. Compare it to Kate who is still hair fumbling and crotch-purse covering yet strangely ass-baring. She and mumsy strategised for years to get the man and then after marriage, had no strategy on how to princess. And Willnot is also at fault.

  57. umila says:

I don’t see it as annoying at all! I’d much rather listen to the good then hear another episode of ‘my life is soooo hard; it’s tough being me’.
Sounds like a lovely, optimistic, and gracious lady to me!

  58. Pierce.mn1 says:

Frankly, Princess Sofia: No one gives a rats ass!

  59. kibbles says:

I would not jump on Kate if she were that honest. I would find it a refreshing change from her usual silence or speaking briefly from a scripted dialogue. What is wrong with admitting that being a royal member is wonderful? It is a privilege and comes with endless perks. Kate would never admit that her life is privileged or that her job really isn’t that much in return for living in the lap of luxury. If Kate ever owned her privilege I would give her mad props, but that will never happen.
