Dès que je l’avais découvert au détour de recherches sur Internet, j’avais voulu l’essayer. C’est désormais chose faite : voici enfin venu l’heure du tea test du Mad Hatter tea, le thé du Chapelier fou ! 

Fan de tout temps d’Alice au Pays des Merveilles, j’ai été intriguée lorsque j’ai découvert le site du Mad Hatter tea. Que de promesses ! C’est finalement grâce au renouvellement de la carte des thés de mon Tearoom à Tours que j’ai eu l’occasion d’avoir le précieux thé entre mes mains et de le goûter. Après 5 minutes d’infusion dans une eau bouillante, j’ai découvert la couleur rouge rubis de l’infusion de ce mélange de thés d’Assam, de Ceylan et du Kenya une infusion rouge rubis – bien qu’il soit plus approprié en l’occurence de parler de « rouge Reine de Cœur ». En le versant dans ma tasse, en revanche, le thé du Chapelier fou se muait en un délicat filet doré que je me suis empressée de goûter.

Le goût du Mad Hatter Tea est aussi riche que sa description le promettait. Chaque gorgée semble naturellement sucrée et développe un agréable arrière-goût de pain grillé – une saveur tout à fait appropriée pour un Tea Time avec le Chapelier fou et qui me donne hâte de goûter les autres créations de la marque, notamment le Lavender tea, qui mélange, comme son nom l’indique, de délicates fleurs de lavande au Mad Hatter Blend (un blend qui peut sembler surprenant au premier abord mais étant donné la douceur de ce thé et ses notes de pain grillé, je pense que cela devrait être délicieux). À essayer absolument !

 

Tea test: Mad Hatter Tea’s Mad Hatter Blend

As soon as I had found it while surfing the Internet, I had wanted to try it. Now I can check it off my list: the time has come for the Mad Hatter Blend tea test! 

I have always been a fan of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. No wonder then, that when I found out that someone had created the Mad Hatter Tea I wanted to try it since – mostly because I loved Madison Hatter’s idea of creating a blend fit for the Mad Hatter tea party. I eventually did try it and – no surprise here – I loved it!

Here is how Michael (the man behind Madison Hatter’s character) describes his tea on his website: « In 1999 I left my home in Richmond Yorkshire where Lewis Carroll’s genius was first discovered and embarked on a quest to find the ultimate blend of tea. After 10 years of painstaking research I developed a combination of Indian and African teas which produce a unique richness of colour and exquisite depth of taste. Today when you drink Mad Hatter Tea you can taste the freshness of quality that harks back to Victorian England where the benchmark was simply quality. Mad Hatter Tea is a perfect balance of colour and flavour combined together to tantalise taste buds, placing the spotlight on a quality product that simply revives the spirit, enriches the mood and adds peppiness and cheerfulness to the substance of life. With the Mad Hatter’s unique connection with tea, it seems appropriate to blend them both together so that every one can experience a « Taste of Wonderland ». »

What a promise! At last, I got the precious tea in my hands when I renewed my Tearoom’s list of teas. After 5 minutes of infusion in boiling water, I discovered the ruby red colour of this Assam, Ceylon and Kenya blend – although it might be more appropriate to speak of « Queen of hearts red » in this case. While pouring it in my cup, however, the Mad Hatter Tea changed into a delicate golden trickle that I tasted almost immediately.

Obviously, my hopes were pretty high but thankfully, the tea is a delight and as rich as it promised. Every sip is naturally sweet and develops a pleasant toasty aftertaste – quite an appropriate savour for a Tea Time with the whimsical Mad Hatter and that makes me want to try Mad Hatter Tea’s other creations. Especially the new Lavender tea, a blend that might sound surprising at first, but with the Mad Hatter Blend’s sweetness and toast notes I really think it might be delicious. To try absolutely!
