I love baking up sweet treats to share with my family and friends. With Valentine’s Day coming up in just a few short weeks, there’s no shortage of fun and festive dessert recipes floating around in my head.
The past couple of years since Cakes started preschool, I’ve sent candy with her (usually her favorite – M&M’s®) to share with her classmates, but I’ve never really done anything for her non-school friends. Unless you count last year, where we shared the Valentine’s Day goodie bag among my girls and their BFFs during playtime at the park.
Why are kids the only ones that get to celebrate friendships at Valentine’s Day? I have friends that I love too and this year,I want to share the love with my friends too! A card or gift might not be appropriate for giving your friends, but everyone loves food…especially dessert!
But in creating a dessert recipe, I know that like most moms, my friends will be sharing their sweet treats with their kids. So when I spied the new M&M’s® Red Velvet with the Valentine’s Day candies at Walmart, I knew they’d make a great mom-pleasing and kid-pleasing addition to the sugar cookie bars I wanted to make for my friend.
I was right – the M&M’s® Red Velvet are my new favorite variety! My M&M’s® Red Velvet Sugar Cookie Bars are pretty amazing so I envision many more dessert recipes in the near future featuring M&M’s® Red Velvet!
Before gifting food, I always do a trial run first. Just to ensure the recipe tastes as awesome as I think it’ll be. While I cooked, my impatient little helper couldn’t resist the urge to snack on M&M’s® Red Velvet. As you can see, they’re quite a bit larger than the regular-sized M&M’s® which means more red velvet flavor in every bite!
Ditch the traditional frosted sugar cookie and mix things up with these M&M’s® Red Velvet Sugar Cookie Bars!

Those cookie bars look fantastic - almost gooey in the middle! I would make these - and when I run out of Red Velvet M&M's, I'll use Peanut Butter M&M's!
