Joe McElderry reckons it's time that X Factor takes a break

Joe McElderry would be happy to see the X Factor take some time out.

The singer found fame by winning the UK TV talent show in 2009.

However, ratings are less than they used to be and there are questions over the programme's future.

Speaking to Digital Spy, McElderry backed calls for the show to take a break.

He said: "I'm still a huge fan of the show, it was where everything started for me.

"I think maybe give it a bit of a breather, and take it back to just being about the singing. I think if they do that, they can't do wrong."

The 2015 series of the X Factor was won by Louisa Johnson, but her winner's single only charted at No.9.
