Truck smashes into bridge and flips on City Road

A Coles delivery truck has hit a bridge and flipped over on the corner of City Road and Ferrars Street in South Melbourne.

The incident happened around 11am. The truck driver was initially trapped in his cab, but was soon freed by firefighters, a spokesman for the MFB said. He escaped without injury.

All lanes on the busy road are closed, and emergency services are on the scene.

Photos sent in by an eyewitness show a truck turned on its side after a hard collision with the City Road railbridge. No rail services appear to be affected.

Victoria police have been contacted for comment.
