Pincus: Nets sign Ryan Boatright to partially guaranteed deal

Apparently, the Nets don't have enough point guards. After trading for Steve Blake and signing Shane Larkin, Eric Pincus reports that the Nets have given UConn's Ryan Boatright, who's playing on their summer league team, a two-year, $1.4 million deal with a $75,000 guarantee if he's still on the Nets roster August 1.

The Nets ended the season and started the summer with three point guards --Deron Williams, Jarrett Jack and Darius Morris. On Draft Night, they took on Blake, the 35-year-old vet in the Rondae Hollis-Jefferson for Mason Plumlee trade. Three days ago, they dumped Morris, one day before they would have had to pay him a $25,000 guarantee. Then, on Thursday, the Nets used part of the mini-MLE to sign Shane Larkin, the Knick free agent, to a two-year deal. Larkin's $1.4 million deal is guaranteed as is Blake's $2.2 million deal.

Normally, players with Boatright's contract arrangement get paid a partial guarantee as they pass certain milestones. The second year is often guaranteed similarly. Cory Jefferson, for example, is scheduled to be paid $75,000 on July 15, then in rising increments through the opening of training camp, when he would be fully guaranteed.

Boatright, although undersized, is a solid three point shooter. A starter on UConn's 2014 NCAA championship team, he averaged 17.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists this past season. Boatright also shot 41.1 percent from three-point range on over six attempts per game. He went undrafted and was signed to the summer league team the day after the Draft.  Of the summer league players, he and Cliff Alexander are given the best chance of making the final roster.
