About this ebook

Book One of the USA Today Bestselling Matt Turner Series

A mysterious woven metal artifact is found at a paleontological dig in Africa. Mystified experts, confounded by the impossible timeline they receive from traditional dating methods, call upon a stubborn twenty-something with a unique talent. Matthew Turner's gift is also his curse: whenever he touches an object, his consciousness is flooded with the thoughts and feelings of those who touched it before him, be it last week or centuries ago. It's a talent that many covet, some fear, and almost no one understands.

Despite being exploited as a child and tormented by the unpleasant experiences imprinted on him from the various items he's "read," Matt agrees to travel from New York to the forests of Kenya. There, threatened by unknown enemies, and helped by a beautiful but prickly ally who begins to understand his strange ability, his mind journeys back in geological time to make a discovery so shocking that it forces us to rewrite all human history.

An 'object reader' gets involved when a treasure hunter, using an archaeologic dig to cover his search for riches, discovers a real artifact. The result is a double tale of modern greed interacting with scientific curiosity and of a primitive tribe seeking refuge from great danger. The author really brings to life the leader of that long-vanished tribe, making him perhaps the most fully realistic character in the book. A very good read!

It was a refreshing concept. The story was well laid out and easy to follow. The characters were as thorough as they needed to be to advance the story. It was they type of book I would really enjoy while on vacation and just looking for an easy read. The changes in perspective were slightly hard to follow because there was nothing indicating a change, aside from a new paragraph. This made it just hard enough that I don't think I got the full enjoyment as I would normally when reading a book.

Sorry, didn't like it much. I rushed through it just to get it over with. I'm sure many people enjoy it but as far as sci-fi goes this was just too bizarre and the second story line of the ancient humanoid civilization was just not that interesting.
