Jackson-Olin junior T.D. Moultry now has offers from Alabama and Auburn

Jackson-Olin junior T.D. Moultry is starting to get major recruiting attention.

The 6-foot-3, 221-pounder recently picked up offers from Alabama, Clemson and Mississippi State, to go with previous offers from Auburn and Troy. Clemston offered today.

Alabama coach Nick Saban and Auburn coach Gus Malzahn have visited Jackson-Olin in the last week to recruit Moultry.

"He is a great kid, extremely talented and unbelievably humble," Jackson-Olin coach Tim Vakakes said. "I see a kid who is 16 going on 70 in terms of wisdom. He's a great ambassador for our program and school. He will enjoy the (recruiting) process and do it humbly, honestly and right."

A junior, Moultry is in the Class of 2017, but the interest shown by Alabama and Auburn - especially school visits by the head coaches - show that he is one of the state's elite propects for next season.

Moultry played safety for the Mustangs last season, but is expected to move to middle linebacker for his senior season.

Some college scouts had already projected Moultry as a linebacker in college, but the fact he's played safety gives him versatility.

Some high school linebackers - Mark Barron at Alabama, for example - have transitioned to safety and excelled. Barron was a first-round pick after his Alabama career.

Moultry has a compelling underdog story. He sat out as a freshman after transferring to Jackson-Olin and then missed his sophomore year after he was hit by a stray bullet in a Birmingham park. He emerged as the Mustangs' team leader last year, and Vakakes said Moultry has an extremely bright football future.

"He told me he's going to be the next NFL player from Birmingham," his mom, Lakisha Moultry, told AL.com last fall. "I say he needs to stick with his books, and he says he's going to get his education but that dreams come true."
