Media information for the funeral liturgy of the late Bishop Thomas Flynn RIP

Please see below arrangements for the Funeral Mass of the Most Reverend Thomas Flynn RIP, Bishop Emeritus of Achonry.  Mass will be celebrated in tomorrow, Saturday 6 June 2015 at 3.00pm in the Cathedral of the Annunciation and Saint Nathy, Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon in the Diocese of Achonry.  An Taoiseach Mr Enda Kenny TD will be represented at the Funeral Mass by his Aide-de-Camp Commadant Kieran Carey.  Details are as follows:

Celebrants

Chief Celebrant will be Bishop Brendan Kelly, Bishop of Achonry, who will be assisted by Archbishop Michael Neary, Archbishop of Tuam, and Bishop Christopher Jones, Bishop Emeritus of Elphin, in the presence of His Eminence Seán Cardinal Brady, Archbishop Emeritus of Armagh.  The celebrant and concelebrants will be joined by the priests of the Diocese of Achonry and visiting clergy, with the people of the diocese in attendance.

Note to Editors

  • The late Bishop Thomas Flynn RIP was born in 1931, and was educated in the De La Salle NS, Ballaghaderreen and in Saint Nathy’s College.  He entered the national seminary Saint Patrick’s College Maynooth and was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Achonry in 1956.  He was appointed bishop of the diocese in December 1976, and ordained bishop on 20 February 1977.  Bishop Flynn was bishop for almost 31 years, having served the diocese as priest and bishop for close on sixty years.
