11 injured in Downtown crash involving Port Authority bus, vehicle

An automobile ran a red light Downtown and hit a Port Authority bus on late Sunday, June 14, 2015, pushing the bus into a utility pole.

Eleven people were injured late Sunday when a car ran a red light Downtown and hit a Port Authority bus, pushing the bus into a utility pole, according to information from Port Authority spokesman Jim Ritchie.

None of the injuries appears to be very serious, Ritchie, in an email, said he was told. Five of the 11 were taken to hospitals, including two passengers on the Route 51 bus, the bus operator and two people in the car, he said.

Police, fire and emergency services personnel responded to the accident after it was reported at 11:31 p.m. at Fourth Avenue at Smithfield streets, Allegheny County emergency dispatch said.
