A former county champion and all-state tennis player at Shoreham-Wading River, Aimee Manfredo continues to excel at the next level.

Now a sophomore on the Bradley University women’s tennis team, Manfredo won a singles title at a conference tournament earlier this month. Manfredo won the Flight 5 singles title with a win over Missouri State’s Miranda Poile, 6-4, 6-2 on Oct. 4.

The win capped a three-day event at the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Individual Championships in Springfield, Ill. Bradley, located in Peoria, Ill., also had the winning Flight 3 doubles team. They were the first titles for the school since 1986 when Cindy Schneider won Flight 3 singles.

Manfredo won her first match, 6-2, 6-1, before needing three sets in her next match. She defeated Polina Dozortseva of Southern Illinois University, 6-0, 1-6, 6-4. The win sent her into the finals against Poile.

Last year Manfredo set Bradley’s single-season record for singles wins by a freshman with 23. It was the second-best singles victories total by any player in program history. She also set the single-season program record for wins at No. 3 singles with 12.

She posted a 23-15 record overall in singles last year while going 12-21 in doubles.

At Shoreham, Manfredo posted an 89-21 career record since joining the varsity as a seventh grader. As a senior she went 26-2, won the singles county title and placed fourth at the state championship.
