The Three Musketeers (Queen's Diamonds) Review
In the annals of popular lore, The Three Musketeers have lived for centuries. The story has been the subject of books, plays, movies, toys and cartoons. Now, gaming software developer Playtech has developed a 3D video slot game using Athos, Porthos, Aramis and d’Artagnan as the central figures in an adventure to find the Queen's pink diamond and buckets full of money. At first glance, the graphics appear rather ordinary. It's not until the player starts finding their way into bonus games that the video animation brings everything to life in a big way. Each character has his charm and each of the caricatures are lovable and noble. With a couple of interactive bonus games to keep the player entertained, this game becomes one of Playtech's better efforts.
Game-Play Features
The Three Musketeers video slot makes use of a rather unique game format, using five reels and 50 pay lines. The betting range should be appealing to players of all levels with a minimum of $.01 per pay line and a big maximum of $100.00 per pay line ($5,000 max bet). The standard low-paying icons are made up of the Queens's pink diamond, her crown, a scroll, muskets, swords, daggers and miscellaneous equipment. The "wild" symbol comes stacked on reels 2-4 and substitutes for everything but the three scatter symbols (Athos, Porthos, Aramis), the "Free Games" symbol and the bonus symbol (d’Artagnan). It is sad to report that none of the standard symbols return big payouts and the only way to really win decent money is through the bonus games with multipliers.
Special Bonus Features
The Three Musketeers has the requisite Free Spins bonus feature and a spin related bonus feature to go along with one of the coolest interactive bonus features offered by Playtech on any of its games.
The Free Musketeers Free Spins Feature - If the stacked "3 Free spins" symbol appears anywhere on reels one and five simultaneously, the player is given three free spins plus three free spins for each spot occupied by the symbol up to 21. During the free spin games, three more free spins are awarded each time the symbol appears on reel three with an unlimited number available.
The Mighty Musketeer Bonus Feature - This feature is initiated when one of the Three Musketeers appears with his weapon of choice on the reel to the immediate right. This creates a re-spin with special symbols added.
The Queen's Diamond Bonus Feature - If d’Artagnan appears on both reel two and four simultaneously, the player goes on to an interactive bonus quest to find the diamond. The quest has five stages where the player must pick from one of three choices at each stage. Cash is awarded along the way. If the players makes it all the way to stage five and finds the diamond, they get a big bonus with a nice multiplier.
