Hamilton: Bernie Sanders caught Broadway show while campaigning in New York

Someone’s feeling the Bern for Hamilton. Bernie Sanders made a stop in New York City while on the campaign trail, where he made time to catch a showing of the hit Broadway production, according to reports.

The presidential candidate was spotted with his wife, Jane, and a group of Secret Service agents entering the Richard Rodgers Theatre near Times Square on Friday. While most Broadway lovers acquire tickets through the lottery or reserving them many months in advance, The New York Times states Sanders and his wife paid $167 each for house seats that are typically reserved for the relatives of cast members and certain dignitaries.

Jane Sanders also reportedly purchased a CD of the show’s soundtrack during intermission, and Bernie Sanders took pictures with some of the cast members after the performance.

Amy Schumer, Hillary Clinton, and President Barack Obama are also among those who have seen the show, while Lin-Manuel Miranda and his castmates recently performed at the White House.

“It sounds initially like it would not work at all,” Obama had said. “And it is brilliant, and so much so that I’m pretty sure this is the only thing that Dick Cheney and I have agreed on — during my entire political career — it speaks to this vibrancy of American democracy, but also the fact that it was made by these living, breathing, flawed individuals who were brilliant.”
