There is nothing in life that eighteen year old Zara craves more than her freedom. Stolen from her home in Cadrebia at the age of eight, Zara has spent more years than she cared to admit as a slave to the Tankadesh courts. Her days are filled with protecting the princess, while she spends nights entertaining the king and his officials with her mastery of weapons. Any spare moment in between, she plots escape.

Yet her hopes for freedom come to a crashing halt when a stranger arrives bearing the mark of her assigned lifemate, and he threatens war if she isn’t turned over into his care. But a lifemate is not part of the plan. Her dreams, of choosing her own path and being the master of her own will, weaken as her Moon seeks to claim his Sun.

Is it possible that this stranger, with gentle blue eyes and a ready smile, didn’t come to be her new master? That there could be more to his tale?

Zara soon finds that neither her captivity nor her parents’ deaths were mere random attacks. And by returning to Cadrebia, she may have put the future of the royal line—and her Moon—in jeopardy. While Zara breathes in her first taste of freedom, her enemies move in, seeking to rob Cadrebia of its blessed prophecy.

To keep what she holds dear, Zara must rise above the pain and uncertainty to claim the lifemate assigned to her, or more than her freedom will be stolen this time.

Zara was stolen from her home in Cadrebia at the age of eight and made to become a slave to the Tankadesh courts. She has spent the last ten years protecting the princess and entertaining the king and his officials with her mastery of weapons while she has tried to plot her escape.

Now on her eighteenth birthday her time to escape is coming close Zara finds herself obtaining her mark that will link her to her lifemate. Zara sees this as trading one type of prison for another so when a stranger arrives bearing the same mark Zara is hesitant to trust him help her out of the prison she's known for the past ten years.

Sun and Moon is a fantasy romance that I was hoping for a bit more to the fantasy than what I found. It's still a good read with a unique setting but the pace seemed a bit slow to me as the story began and was hoping we'd touch a bit more into their world.

The romance is a more slow developing one that begins with this couple being destined to be together. Instead of the insta-love you find in some of these stories though it became more of a relationship that had a chance to grow after they find it's arranged.

Overall, a bit slower pace to me for this fantasy romance but still an ok read overall.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

"I'm my own personal lamp."

I received this book through XpressoBooks as a review opportuniy. I got it in exchange for an honest review. I’m thanking XpressoBooks for granting me the wish and providing me with the copy of this book.

This is a really cute fantasy book. And I say cute, because the romance in this book is so darn cute =]

This book read very easily, which I like. I read this book as an ARC gotten through XpressoBooks. I am glad, though, that I read this book. Before I checked the website of XpressoBooks I've never heard of this book of the author before.

This book contains characters with strong personalities, boy rescues girl who can rescue herself situations, a very cute romance brought by fate, paranormal aspects and a royal story to it.

The build up in this book is done very well. It got me excited to read on till the very end. The world building was very vividly written, I could picture it in my head. The characters are very diverse in personality and that fact makes it an interesting read.

I really liked this book, but I gave it four quills. That is only because I felt like I wasn't finished with this story. It was an ending of they lived happily ever after. But I felt like there is more to tell in the lives of Zara, Jaedon, Roxana and Dareh. I can't agree with this being a standalone book. I want more story than just this. But like I said, I like this book, but I want more than only this part of the story.

Sun and Moon was such an interesting story! I loved the settings and the descriptions of clothing. Desiree gave such beautiful details of the sun and moon emblems as well as Zara's clothing that I was awed by it all.

I also liked the way Zara and Jaedon's relationship bloomed. There was quite a bit of action and tension that had me glued to the page. It was a bonus to have a little bit of mystery thrown in surrounding the action that left me feeling even more on edge for Zara's safety.

Lastly, I loved the transformation Zara experiences over the course of the novel. I won't give details, but I was very touched by the message of how God loves and cares for us.

One thing I will mention is there were quite a few kissing scenes then I usually prefer when reading, but nothing inappropriate. Though, I will confess that the ending, especially the last line, was perfect.

Overall, a great read that I would recommend to Fantasy readers who like strong romance in their stories.

I'm not sure where my expectations truly lay when I received this book. In truth I think I expected a lighter version of a 'Loveswept' novel and this was both more than that and less than that. This is such a wholesome story - there's no graphic sex scenes or even innuendo which is sweet and refreshing. In fact - the whole novel was sweet - perhaps a little too much so.

This is not a long book but it does manage to combine a unique fantasy world into a primarily romantic novel. It has fearless women, resilience, love, magical abilities with a healthy sprinkling of action and I thoroughly enjoyed that Williams embraced the political intrigue and power plays that come with ruling a nation and used them in her plot.

The main problem I had with this book was that everything fit just a little too well into its pigeon-hole. To make this a brilliant novel it needed more depth to the characters, more sharp edges and grit to make it more real. It needed a little more suspense and intensity instead of everything feeling a little too sugar coated.

Jaedon was a little too patient, a little too perfect and sweet and Zara was just a little bit too special. The remaining 2 of Jaedon's 4 minors just happened to find their lifemates within the pages of this book; everyone had a happily ever after.

Regardless the romance was sweet and gentle and grew believably throughout the story. The climax, although it came and went too quickly, was still satisfying.

It was just a little too fairy tale ending. But sometimes that is what you want in a book - total escapism from the real world where everything works out perfectly.

I had my eye on this book since it released, and now that I've read it, I can't believe it took me even that long to read it! It is amazing!

The main plotline of this book is the romance, but the author manages to balance enough action, mystery, adventure, and really awesome worldbuilding as well so the romance doesn't get dull or take over too much. While there is some kissing and standard romantic elements, it stays, in my opinion at least, on the sweeter side rather than get too steamy. Perfect for an action minded reader like myself.

Oh, and did I mention the world building? I could read a whole series set in this world! The concept of assigned lifemates with marks appearing and the government of the country with Suns and Moons and Royal Stars...if you haven't read this book yet, you have no idea what I'm talking about, so go read it. It is beautiful.

Sun and Moon by Desiree Williams is a good, summer romantic fantasy  appropriate for middle grade and young adult readers. It’s short, easy to digest, and has an assured happy ending, like a bag of popcorn at the movie theater.

*MY Thoughts*

In the land of Cadrebia, lives 22-year old Jaedon. He is the Prime Regent of Cadrebia who has been hoping for FOUR years to be Marked. The Mark indicates that the Giver of Life has matched him to his lifemate. His lifemate is supposed to be the next Royal Sun who was born on the same day. When the Giver of Life also sends him a warning that his lifemate is in danger, Jaedon, and his FOUR Minor Governors set out to Tankadesh to find her. In Tankadesh, there lives an 18-year old girl named Zara, who when she was 8-years old, was stolen away from her home in Cadrebia during a raid on her home that left her parents dead, and the Eastern Quarter in shambles.

The story was really good.

In Cadrebia everyone is assigned a lifemate after they both come of age. This assignment comes from their God the Light Giver.

Zara is a Cadrebian slave in a neighboring land. On her eighteenth birthday she receives the mark of assignment on her palm. Will this mean her freedom from slavery or merely a new form of bondage?

This is not a typical romance. The plot was complex with plenty of action and intrigue to keep the pages turning.

The ending was wrapped up rather hurridly, but it was satisfying. It was refreshing to read a stand alone book and not get swept up into a multi book epic series.

Though I would totally read more books set in this story world if the author chose to write more.

so this is my very first book by this author, and only 50 pages in, and DESIREE WILLIAMS, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY HEARTSTRINGS! She dives us head first into such emotions and I'm deeply attached to these characters already!

update: After finishing this book, I still love it. This author did such a beautiful job on this book, and I can not wait to read more by her! I am still a bit confused by the magic of it, but it totally works in this setting! well done Desiree!

My heart sings after reading Sun and Moon. Any book that makes you think about your Creator more, any book that makes you fall deeper and deeper in love with Him and any book that makes you want to embrace the calling that the Giver of Life has placed upon you is a magnificent book. So, yes, my heart sings, dances and shouts thank you for being able  to take this journey with Jaedon and Zara.

This book has been languishing on my TBR pile, so I picked it up this morning...and finished it this evening. So, so good--lots of swoony romance, a cool magic system, and beautful worldbuilding. I was happy it was a standalone (so many duologies, trilogies, & series out there!), but when I was done, I wanted a sequel. 😉
Fantastic addition to my shelves! 💜

This is one of my favorite books by this author. There is a depth to the characters that makes me want to see their happily ever afters. I first read this book many years ago (including a few re-reads) and still remember key scenes because they made such an impression. And can I just say how much I love the arranged marriage/fated love trope?!?! Definitely worth the read!

Rated PG-13 for mild torture (tactfully handled/mildly referenced) and intense scenes
—little to no language
—clean romance
—mild references to torture/abuse

I really enjoyed Sun and Moon. I must have, since I devoured it in just a day :) I found it to be a unique and wonderful concept, and thought Desiree's smooth writing definitely did the idea justice. It made my heart flutter, made me laugh, made me tear up, all of it! Can't wait to read another book by Desiree Williams :)

I received an advanced reader copy of this book from Xpresso Tours in exchange for an honest review.
This in no way influences my opinions.

I honestly wasn't really sure what to expect when I began to read Sun and Moon. I was a little confused by the synopsis of the book and wasn't too sure that I'd enjoy reading the story.

However, I actually loved the ideas and plot of this story. It was a fantastic idea and it lead to me being really captivated in the story. I really loved the idea of two people being completely destined to be together, no matter what their age or personality. I also loved the way that this idea was pulled off within the story; it's not a completely original idea for a story, but the way it was written made it feel completely new, which I completely loved! I really liked the idea of each person getting a 'mark' when they and their destined partner came of age, and the idea that they're just drawn towards each other in an incontrollable way.
Needless to say, I loved the way Zara was matched up within the story!

Actually, I thought Zara herself was a great character. I appreciated how strong she seemed, particularly considering her past as a prisoner to the royal family with a deceased family. She was a really good and solid main character, and I also really enjoyed how much she developed over the course of the story, it was great to see!
In fact, I liked most of the characters in the story. From what I can recollect, there were no particular characters that irritated me throughout the book. I loved Jaedon as a love-interest and character of his own - he really was just perfect! There was no fault to him whatsoever!

The romance in Sun and Moon was swoon-worthy to say the least! It was the kind of romance that just leaves you feeling mushy inside; the kind that really just makes you feel happy with your life. So this book definitely delivered on the romance side of things! I guess you could say it had some issues, but the only issue I found with it was that it seemed too perfect to be real - but in a fiction book, does this really matter? I love a good romance one in a while!!

I really enjoyed Desiree Williams' writing over the course of this novel. It made the book really easy to read, and also meant for quite a quick read; great for getting out of a reading slump! If I'm completely honest, I didn't think the writing was particularly anything too special, but it certainly wasn't bad! I quite enjoyed it!

I guess the only issue I really had with Sun and Moon was that it just seemed too perfect. There was a perfect, strong, female lead, a perfectly gorgeous love interest who just did everything right, and a perfectly happy ending. Every now and then, I do quite enjoy a book with a 'perfect' romance, like I've already said, but when absolutely everything ends this way, it can just seem a little sickly and false.
I do believe Sun and Moon would have benefited from a little more 'grit' and struggle. I mean, there were definitely aspects of this in the story, but I don't think it was quite prominent enough to balance out the happiness.
It was refreshing to read a happier book in the fantasy genre for a chance, but I just think this story verged on being just too happy. This, however, could just be a fault in my taste of stories rather than within the book itself!

When I first read the synopsis for Sun and Moon, I was immediately drawn into reading it. I really love reading stories with elements of fantasy, royalty, and lifemates, so imagine my happiness when I saw that all these three were in this story.

And, I was not disappointed.

I found the entire story interesting, and I especially liked how the plot flowed. While I found it a little bit too perfect, like how Zara seemed like a nobody suddenly found herself being the center of everything. I also think that the ending came abruptly and too quickly. Still, I love how I was able to see the transformations that Zara went through into someone who learned how to open up and trust others. It felt heartwarming, and I found myself really cheering for her despite all the challenges that she had to go through. I think that it was really nice on how her transformation was something realistic and believable, and how it gives a message that someday, everything will also get better.

It was also great to see how the entire story is centered around love. Sun and Moon didn’t just touch romantic love, but also for family, friends and even oneself. I was really happy to see everyone grow and develop more as an individual through the love that they are able to give and receive to and from others. Also, it was beautiful how despite Zara and Jaedon being lifemates, Zara was able to make the choice to return the love. I love how the romance slowly developed (and it’s not insta-love) even though it was very clear that the two of them are lifemates, since they were able to get to know each other more, Although, I found Jaedon a bit too nice and too sweet, which made it seem like he is too perfect.

If you like fantasy and sweet romance, Sun and Moon is a great read about the journey on learning to embrace oneself and the various, large changes that are about to happen in one’s life.

I had read this story a few years ago and enjoyed it then as well as liking it the second time around.

Zara, the daughter of a governor of Cadrebia, is abducted after her parents are killed and her city burned to the ground. She and many of those in her town are taken as slaves to Tankadesh where eventually she will become the guard of the princess - the only living princess of the ruler of Tankadesh - for some reason this guy can't father a son, and he kills all the girl babies. He just needs one princess as a bargaining chip!

Zara and her nursemaid and the princess and the princesses love (a guard) are planning an escape, but before that can happen Prince Jaedon comes to find his sun and take her home, something she isn't really happy about.

This is Christian fiction but very loosely so. There is a God in the story, the Light Giver, who is over all. He gives gifts to royalty so they can rule the people effectively. There are those born under the sun and those born under the moon. So that balance can be maintained in the land a sun and a moon are appointed for each other by the Light Giver.

This is a clean read, although the kissing can get steamy at times.

I enjoyed this fantasy in which two people, chosen for each other by the Light Giver, must find each other and negotiated some difficult problems to claim the future they're meant for. The characters are interesting, the story takes you places you don't expect, and it all becomes a really fun read.
