Hope Town #3

When I'm With You

Rate this book
Nate:

It’s nearly impossible to be surrounded by love but not understand it. My parents, my sister, and just about everyone around us has no trouble accepting that love. To give your trust to someone else and believe they would die before hurting you. I’ve witnessed it—I’ve seen the power of it—but I’ve also seen the pain. Because for me, I’ve only loved someone I could never have, and my biggest fear is that by giving her my love, all I would do is ruin her. I should have tried harder, but I’m not sure I can because I only feel complete when I’m with her.

Emberlyn:

The only time I feel like I belong is when he’s near. His infectious smile warms me straight to my bones. Any insecurities I have vanish with just a wink from him. A sliver of his attention makes me feel invincible. But all it took was one drunken night of truths for me to lose everything I had begun to crave. Now, I’m not sure how to move on because I only feel complete when I’m with him.

He said I was too young. I said he was perfect. He said our families wouldn’t understand. I said we could weather any storm. He said he would ruin me. And he was right.

As usual, I have a few complaints because I’m complicated. Actually there were a lot of things that made me roll my eyes but I won’t go into details because I would probably massacre this book and I don’t want that. Because this was a solid read and I really enjoyed it.

So let's just say it’s not the writing, it’s the content. I mean, the story was okay (though a bit too formulaic and predictable for my taste) but some of the scenes were “what the hell just happened” weird.

But let’s not be too fussy. This book was the best of the series. It’s hot and engaging and it brings us not only one but two swoon-worthy alphas, Nate and Maddox.

5+ 'Our Beautiful War' Stars!
photo When Im With You - Harper Sloan_zpseu54fsmw.png

Harper Sloan is one of my favourite writers and let's just say I was freaking excited to finally read this book. Harper never disappoints me and this was no exception! Again, another outstanding love story!

When I'm With You is the third installment in the Hope Town series, the spin-off series of the Corps Security one. This time it tells the story of Nathaniel 'Nate' Reid (son of Axel and Izzy Reid, a man who has always been sorrounded by love and now has to deal with his feelings towards the beautiful and teen Ember) and Emberlyn 'Ember' Locke (daughter of Maddox and Emma Locke, a young successful woman who has always had deep feelings for Nate and has been suffering since she professed them to him).

I hate this feeling. No matter how great the pleasure my body gets from picturing her, I always feel empty after. A big giant reminder I’ll never know what having her feels like. Like it or not, this is all I’ll ever have. A hollow pit inside me that I’ve only ever felt was filling up when her smiles came at me without pause. A pit that’s taken up residence inside me since the night she admitted to having the same feelings I’ve been feeling for a long time.

This was P-E-R-F-E-C-T. Harper again delivered an exceptional love story. Seriously, I think this has become my favourite book in this series. I love these characters SO MUCH. It's great to have this spin-off novels because I am always excited to catch up with all the characters we meet in the Corps Security series. And I really enjoy how Harper creates love stories between the sons and daughters of some of my all-time favourite personages.

“Sass,” he warns. “Just like your mom. Just like your sister. I’m surrounded by fucking sass.”
“Whatever.” I laugh, wrapping my arm around his waist as he pulls me to his side with one arm over my shoulders. “What did you do this time?”
“And still she sasses me.”

My dear Maddox Locke, I love you <3 And Emmy, Axel, Izzy, Greg, Mel, and all the other adults and children in this amazing series! Now, what I always enjoy the most, besides the great familiar relationships, is the actual love story. Nate and Ember have always loved each other but Nate is afraid to be with her because of several reasons. Now they are older and not able to control their feelings for each other anymore. They go through some though situations but when they start being together it's freaking explosive.

“I’m not yours, Nate. You had that chance, and you didn’t want it.”
Bending down so my eyes are level with hers, I give in to the possessive need to claim her. “You were fucking born to be mine, little firecracker, and mine you will fucking be.”

Nate and Ember together.. Well, let's just say they gave me one of the hottest sex scenes I have ever read. I am not kidding. The first sex scene between them was off-the-fucking-charts. Nate is so sexy and a freaking talented dirty talker. You know I love them dirty ;) And together with this, their emotional chemistry is beautiful. They have fantastic moments together.

“Please,” I rasp past my dry throat, needing that so desperately.
“No, not please. From this point on, the only word I want to hear from your lips is my name. Moan, groan, scream out your pleasure, but you say no other word than my name. I want to hear you scream that, Ember,” he stresses with a hard thrust. “You don’t come until I tell you to,” he rumbles deep in his throat. I lose his eyes as he bends to trace my ear with the tip of his tongue before whispering against it. “And when you do, you had better do it loud enough to feel pain in your throat from the pleasure I’ll give your pussy.”

“That’s us.”
“That was us,” I correct.
“And what changed?” he continues as his attention stays focused on the painting.
“Everything,” I breathe.
“Give me more than that, Emberlyn. What changed to end our beautiful war?”
“My head collided with my heart.”
His pupils dilate, his eyes getting stormy as his nostrils flare. “Give me more,” he demands, taking a step toward me until just the smallest of space separates us from touching.
“Love won.”

I said hot and emotional right? There was not one thing I did not love about this novel, it has the perfect mix of everything I enjoy (good plot, profound characters and amazing chemistry) and that's why it was a great read for me! And the ending! 4 EPILOGUES. Yes, 4 freaking epilogues. Loved them all! I literally cannot wait for the next story. I hope Harper Sloan gives us many more stories on these outstanding personages.

“I love you, Emberlyn Locke. I can’t change that we lost us for a while, but I can promise you with everything that I am that you will never, not for one second for the rest of our lives, know another day without that love.”

Therefore, my rating for When I'm With You is my special 6 STARS rating because it definitely deserves it. As I said, it has every aspect that I enjoy in a good love story and I cannot deny that I always enjoy getting to know more about all the characters in the Hope Town and the Corps Security series. I cannot wait for more! Harper don't make me wait too much, I am an impatient lady! lol I highly, HIGHLY recommend this :)

4 'Firecracker' Stars

I am ecstatic that I ended up liking this book as much as I did. I was honestly a little nervous about it because the last book in the Hope Town series lost my interest a bit and I was scared this one would follow that same pattern. Luckily I went in without my hopes too high and this ended up being the same Harper Sloan style of writing that I fell in love with in Axel.

Emmy has been in love with Nate for as long as she can remember. Their families are super close so she was always around him when she was younger, and naturally they became friends. But she wanted more. More than just a friendship with the boy she was head over heels for. So she told him...and was rejected.

Years ago when Emmy told him her true feelings, Nate wasn't ready to hear them. Didn't want to know the girl he secretly loved, but knew he could never have, actually felt the same. Years later their friendship is strained and he decides it's time to stop letting Emmy avoid him. He's at a good place in his life, opening up the Coyote Ugly style club he's had plans for, and now it's time for him to get his girl.

I adored this couple and their story is one of true love that I was sucked right into at the very beginning. Emmy and Nate had an emotional journey to get through before they could finally be together, but those emotions didn't take over the book. Throughout reading this we got the emotions, the sexiness, a little drama, and some suspense. It's great how Harper Sloan can bring so many different things to just one book and make them it all work together.

Nate fully has my heart now because after reading how fierce he was my heart is still swooning over him. He was the usual Harper Sloan Alpha Hero, meaning over the top possessive, and sexy as hell. I couldn't get enough of him, and I loved how so much of the story was told in his POV, especially in the beginning. I definitely need more Nate in my life so I feel a re read will be happening soon.

It's great to see the past characters from the Corps series and their kids, but I was happy they weren't featured too much in this book. Seeing what past characters up to and how they react when their kids end up together is fun to read about but I also don't want the story to be shoved in the background just so we can read about those characters that already got their HEA. And HS didn't do that at all. The book focused almost solely on Nate and Emmy and the secondary characters were just that, secondary. They didn't try to force their way into the main part of the book, and for that I was really grateful.

Bottom line, if you haven't read this author you need to stop whatever it is you're doing and pick up one of her books. The way she writes about these crazy Alpha's will have your panties melting and your heart swooning.

Another hit by Harper Sloan !

A long time ago I've fallen in love with this amazing author and her phenomenal Corps Security series. Harper Sloan delivers again with the spin off series Hope Town a bunch of beautiful, all-consuming and addictive tales. She has such a way with words!

When I'm With You is the third book in the Hope Town series, and it tells the story of Nate Reid (Axel and Izzy’s son) and Emberlyn Locke (Emmy & Maddox’s daughter). I absolutely adored it! I felt every emotion they felt, got drawn into the plot and how the story played out.

Ember and Nate grown up together. Ember has been in love with Nate since forever. When she just turned 18 she poured her heart out to him but Nate pushed her away. Because of the age gap between them and the fear to ruin the family ties Nate lied to her and broke her heart in the process. At that time he did what he thought was best for her. His biggest fear was that by giving her his love he will ruin her. Since then Ember never stopped loving him and Nate never stopped to regret letting her go. He messed up big time, not once but twice. Three years later Nate wants to make her his, but he may just be too late….

There was absolutely nothing about this book that I didn't love. There is even one scene that had me cracking up...told from Nate's POV when Nikki (Em’s best friend) broke up with her cheating boyfriend. It was hilarious :))

Nate is EXQUISITE ! He's a MAJOR Alpha, possessive, protective, passionate and sizzling HOT. I liked Ember, too. She is perfect for Nate. She has a mind of her own, feisty and strong. I love a heroine who is not immature or a whiny weak woman.

Together they are insanely hot ! The sex scenes are smoking'. Their amazing chemistry comes out on the pages and takes no prisoners. Holy hotness and all that is fine…Nate Reid is a mighty dirty talker.

The rest of the Corps family makes appearances throughout the book and I love how involved they all are in each other’s lives. Seriosuly I love these guys to no end. They are born to protect and love their women immensely. Not an easy task for an author to make a transition to the next generation but Harper Sloan did it successfully.

If you want to experience Alpha hotness, scorching H-O-T sex, top notch hero and heroine, stellar supporting cast and feel the beauty of a true love story, this one is for you.

"You were fucking born to be mine, little
firecracker, and mine you will fucking be"

I just loved this little possessive line and of course I adored Nate and the things he was ready to do for his little firecracker.I can officially admit that Nate is my favorite so far!

In his arms, I know that no matter what,
as long as I'm with him,
we can win any fight that is in our path.

This was me when I finished this book and I had all these mixed feelings about how damn great this was.I think I'm a little excited....
description

Nothing in the world is worth having if it isn't with her.

This book was REALLY good!I enjoyed it very much as well as the previous in this series BUT"When I'm with you" had me captivated so damn much that I never wanted to end...I mean it's obvious that I like Harper Sloan's writing and her possessive alpha males...But this one had me panting and ready to explore Nate and Emberlyn's story since the first page.
description

"Keep following your heart, Ember.Follow it-me-and let me worry about guiding the way.Allow me to prove to you that I'm worthy of you giving me your love back. How does that sound?"

The story line was captivating but at the same time was a usual Harper Sloan's possessive alpha male hero with a sassy and strong heroine.I loved Nate and Emberlyn trying to fight their feelings and not doing a very good job about it because their attraction was a slow burning fire and when it was ready it would explode...These two together were really enjoyable to watch while exploring how strong their love was and that this time was their chance in happiness. They suffered through the years trying to hide them but now they were ready to fight and concur what was theirs since the beginning. No matter what!
description
"I love you, Emberlyn Locke.I can't change that we lost us for a while, but I can promise you with everything that I am that you will never, not for one second for the rest of our lives, know another day without that love."
description
Can I just say that I couldn't believe how sweet Nate was...I mean I knew he was always funny and having a good time but the roses he send to Ember just left me wanting my own Nate!

"One thousand five hundred and twelve in total.
That's roughly one rose for every day I've missed since
the night you graduated."

Nate wasn't only sweet but really HOT too. He was insatiable and ready to rip some clothes off when Ember was in a room. I loved their chemistry in and out of bed. They went at it like starving people craving their favorite food all the damn time!
description
"I take you, baby, and I'm never fucking letting go.
You ready for that?"

description
"Nate. No more fucking words but my name.Know who is claiming you.Let the whole fucking world hear who is taking you and making you his.
description
"Hold on, Ember. I'm going to claim this pussy, and when you scream my name like a good girl, know that you're giving me all of you when you take my come deep inside your body.
description
This book had everything I needed and I couldn't get enough with these two.I'm ruined...
Nate was plain and simple amazing! He rocked my world and I swoon so DAMN MUCH over him I may have been drooling at some point...
Lucky me no one was around...
description
"Five minutes, Ember.
Time-out for trying to keep my boy from me."

They were a puzzle fitting so perfectly together....And I loved the end!

“Yeah, Emberlyn Locke, I’m beyond fucking ready to be yours.”

What a great story! “When I’m With You” is the third instalment of the Hope Town series, which is a spin off from the Corps Security series. I haven’t actually read book 1 or 2 as of yet which is ok as they are all standalones; after reading this book, I will definitely go back and read them. I’m not sure why I haven’t, because I love Harper Sloan’s writing and imagination. She knows how to write about hot “swoon-worthy” men. I read the Corps Security books a while ago, so I think I’m going to go back and re-read them from book 1 – “Axel”.

“Keep following your heart, Ember. Follow it—me—and let me worry about guiding the way. Allow me to prove to you that I’m worthy of you giving me your love back.”

“When I’m With You” is centred on two of the off-spring from The Corps Security books; Nate, who is Axel and Izzy’s son and Emberlyn, who is Maddox and Emmy’s daughter. Ember has been in love with Nate forever and when she was 18 she finally built up the courage to tell Nate how she felt about him. Unfortunately he rejects her due to the six year age difference and he doesn’t feel they are ready for the intensity of what their relationship would bring.

description

“Ember. My Ember. I’m never letting baby. Not now. Not ever.”

It is obvious through the stellar writing how Nate and Ember feel about each other. They have a very strong connection and no amount of hardship or interference from family members or Embers crazy ex can change that. They have the most phenomenal chemistry. I absolutely loved Nate, who is the epitome of a possessive alpha male.

“You were fucking born to be mine, little firecracker, and mine you will fucking be.”

I have to just make mention how much I loved Maddox in this book. I missed all the Corps Security boys, so that’s why I have made the decision to go back and re-read all the Corps Security before reading book 1 and 2 of the Hope Town series.

“Sass,” he warns. “Just like your mom. Just like your sister. I’m surrounded by fucking sass.”

This book was amazing and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for an incredible story filled with loveable characters. This book had it all; emotion, angst, charm and great steamy sex scenes.

Emberlyn was in love with Nate since she was a teenager. But being a few years older than her and having close parents Nate always new better than trying anything with her, even if he had to hide his feelings to do it. Now, several years later things change when Emberlyn turns 21, Nate is in a changing phase of his live and there’s nothing stopping anymore. And when Emberlyn suddenly gets in danger, Nate will stop at nothing to make sure this time she will not slip through is fingers.

description

Nate was the first kid of the Corps Security original series, so when I started reading the spin-off series with their kids, I was waiting anxiously for his story. And it didn’t disappoint.
A sexy romance, just like Harper Sloan always deliver, with some action and mystery in the background, but in the end of the day a sweet and romantic story that made me root for the heroes from the first page. If you need an entertaining and solid romance book, this is a good choice, especially if you’ve read the original series.

Characters Development: Despite everything that happened in the past I loved Nate and understood why he chose to stay away. Once he made up his mind he never once looked back and became a possessive alpha impossible not to fall in love with. Emberlyn was a sweet girl and very mature considering she was only 21 years old. I liked how she had some backbone and didn’t give in straight away, although at the times I wish she had had a little more.

This story pissed me off!

Nate was a disgusting slut who was too busy sticking his dick into multitudes of females to bother with the woman he supposedly loved for years and YEARS.

"No one knows about the six months I worked at a strip club out of pure boredom and a sex drive that was borderline sex addiction levels bad. Pussy just fell in my lap when I danced at the club in Athens."

Ember was just another pathetic h who pines for this loser for YEARS as he sleeps his way through the female population and when he finally turns his eyes on her she drops her pants immediately. Honestly, this author writes some dumb assed pathetic h's with no backbone. And nearly all her men fuckaround on their women. Oh sorry, even though they're not "technically" together. That's always the the stupid loophole. In my opinion it's cheating because of this "great love" these fuckers are supposed to feel for their women. Yeah, ok. Of course they can be faithful once married to their women, because they've already fucked every woman they could get their hands on. Wouldn't you just love this guy as a husband/partner? Running into all the women he chose over YOU for years. Yeah no thanks, no woman needs that kind of humiliation.

The reason they're not together is just convoluted bullshit and not even a valid reason since the family is all for him anyway.

This series is not for me, I'm sick to death of how this author writes doormat h's and sleazy H's who fuckaround for years while "madly in love" with their women. It's fucking disgusting.

Rant over.

I just love this series, just like I loved the CS series. I think it's great to get to read about the Corps Security crew's offspring and I really like catching up with all the old characters.

This time its Nate (Izzy and Axels son) and Ember's (Maddox and Emmy's daughter) turn.

I loved Nate in the previous book and couldn't wait for his story....it didn't disappoint ;)

Ember has been in love with Nate for some time. It began when he started tutoring her when she was 17 and when she turned 18, she decided to profess her love to him, because she was sure he felt the same way about her. She was shocked when he told her she was too young and he just didn't feel the same way about her and her heart broke. About a year later, however, he takes things a step further and crushes the broken pieces of her heart...

 photo 05128c02ae9d32272626b3b3bbc2fe56eadf6f-wm_zpskewsdwlm.jpg

Nate has loved Ember for a long time. When she told him she loved him, it broke his heart to tell her, that he didn't return her feelings. But being 6 years older than her 18, he figured she still had some growing up to do. He also wasn't so sure their families would accept the two of them together.
Now three years have passed and he just doesn't understand the hostility Ember has towards him. He wants their relationship back the way it was...he misses Ember.

This is were Maddox came in and I just have to say that I had so much respect for him in this book. He was an awesome father !!

Nate gets with the program and tries to figure out how to make up for past mistakes. When Ember steps into his nightclub on her 21 st birthday, he takes it a step further and decides that she is gonna be his.....forever.

 photo bc3742ebd27f52e2d2b3990882e0f4fd_zps8pixmraa.jpg

The problem with that, however, is Ember. He really hurt her and she just can't accept his change of heart all of a sudden. How does she know this is for real, how can she stop her heart from being broken again. She's never stopped loving Nate, but she just can't seem to get her heart and her head on the same page. Nate will have to up his game!

 photo heart and head_zpsxwcol898.jpg

I really enjoyed this one and I love the ott Alphas in this series and in the CS series. They just work for me. Nate was an awesome alpha man dirty talker, giving his daddy a run for his money. Ember was a sweet heroine and even though Nate has hurt her, it didn't turn her bitter or mean.

There is also a little suspenseful side story going on, that I liked.

4,5 stars from me and I can't wait for the next book. I hope there will be many to follow and I will read them all !!

When I’m With You is the third book in Harper Sloan’s ‘Hope Town’ series. I always look forward to any new release by Harper, but I especially love her Corps security series. These books aren’t technically Corps books, but Nate is Axel and Izzy’s son and Emberlyn is Maddox and Emmy’s daughter, so we get so much of all the Corps family that we love so much. It makes me so happy to see all my favorite characters again. I love this series so hard so when this hit my kindle, I read it straight away. It didn’t disappoint!

Emberyln Locke may only be 20 years old, but she knows what she wants and does what she loves. She is a successful artist with a close family and friends she loves. Her life is pretty put together, all she’s missing is the love of a man. She has only been in love once, with a friend of the family, Nate Reid- but those feelings were unrequited and she’s not found it since. She still sees Nate all the time at family events but avoids him like the plague.

 photo 6E6517EA-FEA7-45FD-820D-C19F1ADC383F_zpscozpzg7z.jpg

Nate Reid has always had it bad for Emberlyn Locke, but the timing has never been right. It was the hardest thing he’s ever done, turning her down when she confessed her feelings, but Emberlyn had just turned 18 and Nate is 6 years her senior. It wouldn’t have been right. Plus, his life wasn’t all together then. Now it is. Nate has just opened one of the most successful clubs around. Which Emberlyn ends up going to on her 21st birthday… Lets just say whenever I think of lollipops, I will think of Emberlyn and Nate.

Emberlyn fights her feelings for Nate, even when he pursues her. I get it, being hurt sucks and trusting someone when they’ve hurt you isn’t easy. But Nate is willing to do whatever it takes to earn Emberlyn’s heart and trust back…

 photo E3DAC9AC-45D4-4199-8205-EEEEA92947FE_zpsvmigav2v.jpg

I adored Nate. He was so much like his dad but was also very lighthearted with a great sense of humor. My favorite type of guy! Emberlyn was great, too. She had a big heart but was also fierce. Seeing Maddox as a dad of two grown women was also a treat. I loved all the scenes with him and his daughters, but also the ones with Maddox and Nate.

Harper has this formula when she writes these books. The books are all different, but this formula she has works. Her alphas are a little over the top at times, her heroines give them a run for their money (which I LOVE! No weak women here), and there is always a little drama and angst going on within the story. What I love best about these books is that drama isn’t relationship drama. Once these characters are together, things are solid.

When I’m With You brought the heat and the heart. I need that in my books. The heart. The love. The feels. This book hooked me from the start and I didn’t want to put it down. I smiled, I laughed, I loved. The writing had a great flow and the story was a solid 5 star for me. Highly recommend this book to all fans of the Hope Town and Corps Security Series. I’m sure this could be read as a stand alone, but you don’t want to miss out on all the greatness in the previous books!

There is just something I love so freaking much about these books. Yes, they are over the top, but the joy and excitement I feel when reading overshadow everything else.

If you have read the Corps Security series you know Nate and Em. These two grew up together, but were not really close since there is a six year age difference between them. The story begins with us seeing an eighteen year old Ember poor her heart out to Nate, only to have him turn her down.

Let’s be honest, from this moment on I was just ready for him to realize he made a huge mistake. Yes, I am that reader and the best part is Harper is that kind of writer. She immediately took us into a world three years later. Nate is about to open his new nightclub and we can see through his POV he is seriously struggling with his feelings for Em.

Em is dating a guy who is pretty much an abusive ass, but the point is she is all grown up now. Like all of Harper’s alpha males once he decides to go for it he is all in, but it won’t be an easy journey for him. Over the years he has hurt Em in more ways than one and she has pretty much shut him out of her life.

As you can tell, I seriously loved this book so hard. I loved how Nate had to fight and prove himself to Em. I really LOVED how Em didn’t play games, but was protective of her heart. I could instantly feel their connection and it was off the charts hot. Last night I was raving about this book and series, basically I told my friend - yes it’s over the top, but the sex is hot and the writing is freaking entertaining.

I am obviously a huge fan of this series, as soon as I finish one I can’t wait for another. Even with Nate and Em's story I could have continued reading it and not got bored. If you haven’t read this one or this series I suggest jumping in. They are full of feels while still being light hearted, definitely sexy and the heroes swoon worthy!

So it’s no secret that I am a big fan of the Corps Security Series and I absolutely adore and love each of those characters that comprises the series. And so when Harper decided to do a spin-off with the kids from the Corps Security Series, I was beyond thrilled. Pardon my language, I was fucking ecstatic. I thought no one could replace Cohen Cage as my top fave in the Hope Town Series but Nate Reid stole my heart right off the opening pages. I would like to say it’s a tie but I would be lying to myself if I didn’t admit Nate has a slight edge and lead over Cohen.

photo 1d67d33f2fadb481f42cb0f5fa3525_zpsdfgdmmyg.gif “Keep following your heart, Ember. Follow it— me—and let me worry about guiding the way. Allow me to prove to you that I’m worthy of you giving me your love back.”

#WhenIm2

Love. Nate Reid has been surrounded by love the moment he was born. His parents are madly in love with each other. His sister, Dani found true love and happiness with Cohen Cage. And his extended family of Corp Security could be the walking advertisement for Hallmark. Nate Reid knows love but has he ever been in love. And the answer is yes, Nate knew the moment he fell in love with Emberlyn Locke and the moment he lost love.

photo 1d67d33f2fadb481f42cb0f5fa3525_zpsdfgdmmyg.gif “When I’m finished, the abstract piece will be more blur and fade around the edges, the two bodies becoming clearer the closer you get to those two perfectly painted and in focus hands. This is me. This is Nate. It’s us. So much beauty and pain in one huge piece that I can’t help but think it is eventually my soul stripped bare and splattered against the canvas.”

Maddox and Emmy’s daughter, Emberlyn Locke, knew without a doubt that she loved Nate Reid. She didn’t care that he was six years older than she was. She loved him beyond reason and so when she finally got the courage to confess her love to Nate, she knew that day will forever haunt her. When a young 18 year old Ember confessed her love for Nate, she was hurt that Nate couldn’t admit the exact same feelings for her even though she knew a part of him saw her as a woman and not just a best friend.

#WhenImWithYou

Fast forward to several years later, Nate and Ember’s relationship has been strained since Ember has been avoiding family functions so she wouldn’t run into Nate. As Ember tries to move on with her life, she still couldn’t hide her true feelings for the boy that stole her heart. And for Nate, his memories of Ember still remains.

photo 1d67d33f2fadb481f42cb0f5fa3525_zpsdfgdmmyg.gif “No more fucking words but my name. Know who is claiming you. Let the whole fucking world hear who is taking you and making you his.”

About to turn 21, Ember is on the rise to be a successful painter. And so when her sister and friends decide to throw her a birthday bash, she couldn’t hide her nervousness and excitement that she will be at Nate’s nightclub. When Nate saw Ember in his club,he had an epiphany of some sort to finally claim Ember and make her his. He was tired of denying his feelings for her and so on that night, fireworks were exploding when Nate claimed his girl. His woman. His love.

photo 1d67d33f2fadb481f42cb0f5fa3525_zpsdfgdmmyg.gif “Yeah, Emberlyn Locke, I’m beyond fucking ready to be yours.”

When I’m With You hands down is one of my favorite Harper Sloan’s book. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this book hard. I seriously could re-read this book 10 times and wouldn’t get tired of it. Ms. Sloan did a fabulous job with the love story of Nate and Ember. She allowed readers to feel the wide array of emotions that each character were feeling. And for this particular story, Harper bewitched her readers when she showcased a young man earning back the trust and love that he lost. Without a doubt, Harper made her readers see this fierce, intense, burning connection that Nate and Ember have for one another. Their love was so pure. So simple. So passionate. So true. So beautiful. It was a canvas splashed with color, life, beauty, and love. Honestly, their love for one another is what we all attain to have. A love that completes. And so if you are looking for a story, that paints a beautiful literary masterpiece of second chances, love, forgiveness, honesty and new beginnings then I highly recommend you to read this book. And as an added bonus for all you Maddox Locke fans out there, Maddox once again reminded me how much I loved his protectiveness and big heart.

Ok so it's conclusive this series just isn't for me - I've really tried but overall the plot and characters are lacklustre in the extreme.

The attempts at angst rather than having me crave more, just have me rolling my eyes and skim reading. Perfect for the week I've had where my mind just needed some down time, where it could get it, but no way I'll be coming back to this series.

My feelings for this book are the same as my feeling for the last two!

This was a very confusing read for me. I felt just gross how he just f@&$ nameless girls and put her face on them and why? Some really bullshit reason that I will not get into. Again I find I am in the minority here in my dislike of this story. She almost has sex with the guy then goes off and sleep around with 3 other guys for hey the kicks I guess. I don't think they have this epic love at all. He was hands down an asshole and when he feels like Hey I am ready to f@&$ my friend out of the friend zone she just gives in of course. Because that's the love her life of course. I am sorry but it was a crush that got out of control. I would have understood better if he had a better reason for rejecting her but holy gross cow I just wanted to smack them and say: " Nope, you guys are too stupid to have this story." I almost did not finish the book because of it. I did not really think I could get beyond the merde in beginning and sure enough I was right. I have never taken the easy path in life and I hate people who just give in and give up without some major obstacle in the way. Ok I Will Stop now just its not my cuppa.

Loved it and don't care that I'm stayed up way too late to finish it. It was as awesome as the previous books. Nate and Ember are just as amazing as their parents. I loved how much Axel and Maddox are in this book, and they help Nate. Loved that Nate had a little Dom in him. There's a nasty ex to take care of. Plus there are four epilogues. Can't wait to see who will fall next.

4.5 Nate and Ember Stars

I still rate Corps Security as one of my favourite series. This spin off, featuring the now adult children of the Corps guys, is just as fab. If you want a loyal, HOT, sweet and totally alpha hero mixed in with a likeable heroine, plus gorgeous family dynamics and minimal angst, then read this book
The formula has been done before and many elements of this book run through others in both series' , but they are well written novels that suck you in from the start. I find myself helplessly addicted to Harper's style of storytelling.
Nate and Ember are so good together-- the path to true love is a little bit bumpy but these two are solid. This book is high on passion and low in angst. Loved it!

Updated review April 2023

Potential Spoilers for Corps Security Books.

I am on a re read mission at the moment since Harper released The Long Way Home which is part of the Corps security series. The Hope Town series is the spin off of the original Corps books and this one is about Nate (27) , eldest son of Izzy and Axel Reid (Axel) and Emberlyn (20/21) , youngest daughter of Maddox and Emmy Locke (Locke). I listened to it this time round - great narration by Joe Arden and Shirl Rae.
I think my tastes have changed a little over the years. I still really enjoyed going back to this book but if I was rating it now , it would likely be closer to a four star read for me. I was a bit distracted by Nate being so obsessed with his own equipment. He was forever getting himself off and thinking about how to relieve his pent up tension by himself. There was a lot of sex in the book- more than I remembered and it took away from the plot a bit. (It's very rare for me to think that - I love a good dose of passion in my books but I found myself skipping bits).
Still enjoyable but the original Corps Crew will always be my favourite.
HEA? Yes! Fabulous.
Cheating? No - there is a tiny overlap of Ember kissing Nate when she was still with her boyfriend but she was about to break up with him and had not been invested in that relationship for a while. She broke up with bf very shortly after.

I wanted to love this one, but alas it was just OK for me.

I LOVED Nate and Ember, and the hot sexy times. I loved seeing and catching up with the other kids and the guys. Unfortunately besides the aforementioned sexy times. I found this one to be boring and DRAG a lot. It takes basically half the book for them to even get together, and when they do it is sweet and sexy, but nothing happens. Oh we have an oddly placed OW scene (the clichéd half naked OW waiting for him in his office) that didn't cause a lick of drama, so why it was included, I have no idea. Then we have an underdeveloped OM issue that felt added just to cause some drama, but was resolved WAY too easily. The epilogue was really sweet though.

I've got to admit, after looking forward to this one so much, I was bummed to be so disappointed.

I was really so excited to read this book because we get hints of a romance between Ember and Nate in the first books, but when I finally got around to reading it I was a bit lot disappointed.

I felt it was too angsty when there was really not a good enough reason for all the angst and for the MCs to be apart from each other. I felt that the reason that Nate didn't pursue Ember when she told him she loved him at her graduation when she was 18 was pretty much lame. The reasons he gave was that he though of her as a friend (lie) and she was too young (lame) and their family wouldn't be happy they were together (lamer). The REAL reason was because he wanted to live a little more and screw other women! Come on, he was a dirty dog (hence the name of his bar!). This makes me like him a LOT less!

And what is the deal with the whole putting his sister in a time out? I'm sure the author would think it adorable and cute that a hunky guy would do something so childlike, but I kept rolling my eyes when he would do that. I mean really? Did he think his sister who is an adult, married with kids, be staying in the corner? Ditto with the whole Molly putting makeup on him and Nate wearing a tutu for her.

I also didn't like the fact that he wanted to open up a bar because he really wasn't ready to let go of the partying, which is what he majored in in college before he dropped out, and he wanted to have a place where he could dance since he loved stripping in college too. Really, Nate wasn't the best kind of hero in my eyes. In fact I think that Ember is way to good for him!

Sweet, scorching, alluring, and all-consuming, When I’m With You is an unforgettable friends-to-lovers romance that grabs you from the very first page and leaves you aching for more at the end.

I love reading, but why oh why do I wait so long to read some of these books that I've had on my tbr list forever. I fell in love with Harper Sloan during the Corps Security Series, and holy cow how I love her more after the Hope Town Series.

From the very first pages of When I’m With You, I knew I was in for a roller coaster of a book, maybe even a tearjerker of a story. It grabbed my heart and sent me on an emotional journey of epic love, one that was sad yet so stunning, special and sweet, I completely fell in love with Nate & Ember.

Definitely a book I'd recommend and a must read series!!!

I cannot give this book more than 3 stars because even though I enjoyed this book a lot, I think it lacks the wow factor that I was looking for. I feel like this book has all the ingredients to Harper Sloan 'romance book recipe' but has nothing out of the ordinary. Not that it's a bad thing. I think fans of Harper Sloan would definitely adore this book.

This book has some very cliche tropes. We have the jail-bait forbidden love thing going on in the prologue, over-protective crew as it always is with Sloan's books. We've got , heroine's extroverted friend who loves sex, and a possessive Hero, just the right touch.

Other than that, I especially loved the quite number of epilogues! Everything about the couple is so sweet! Some of the dialogues between the two can be over-the-top and unrealistic but I thought it worked for these two. Overall, this book is an okay read for me. I would recommend this book to someone who wants a couple so sweet, your teeth hurts!

When I got When I’m With You on my kindle, I was so excited, there may have been flails involved! This series has been so addicting, and I can’t get enough!

Nate and Ember have had a rough road. With their age difference and families being so close, there were some reservations for having a relationship. So they got pushed apart by good intentions, which only lead to being without the person they were meant to be with…

This book gave me so many feels. Nate, oh, Nate. He is definitely an alpha. He had so much love to give, yet he pushed it away, thinking it was the best thing. When the time comes to say “fuck it” and be with Ember, he may have lost his chance. While reading I just want to reach into my book and push them together, and not let them be apart.

Ember has been hopelessly in love with Nate for such a long time. Though, after a certain night where not-so-great things happen, it has her pushing him away, too. When I realized what happened, I felt so much for Ember, as she was heartbroken. When Nate finally comes to his senses, I couldn’t blame her hesitation, even though I wanted them together so much.

Through all the heartbreak, forgiveness, and a new relationship, Ember and Nate’s love story wasn’t a walk in the park, but it was a journey that I enjoyed reading. They didn’t start off on the best footing, but they both grew as people and when it came time for their love to surface, they were ready.

Harper Sloan has managed to write yet another great alpha male, and I can’t wait to see who the next one will be. Her writing makes you feel so much for the characters, while losing yourself in the story. Hope Town is a wonderful place to escape to when you need a break from the real world. ~ Leah, 5 stars

When I’m With You is an electric combination of sassy and sweet, with just the right amount of sexy thrown in!

Nate Reid is the perfect man. He’s kind and hot. Sexy and funny. And even more, he’s determined… determined to make Emberlyn Locke his. Ember is full of sass and sweetness. She’s creative and thoughtful. And she’s in love. As with real life, love is so much about timing. With Nate and Ember, timing is everything.

First let me say, I’m hopping the first plane to Hotlanta if Dirty Dog is a real place, because holy smokes, it sounds epic! A place a single chick needs to take all her friends for a much needed, never to be forgotten night out. Then there’s the firecracker. It sounds perfect! I’ll take one, please. Or maybe two or three?

From the very beginning it was evident that Nate and Ember had chemistry in spades. The kind of love that you can only fight for so long. I found myself so immersed in the story that I failed to notice how quickly the pages flew by and then I was at the end. Like, wow! How did that happen?

I’m calling this the sweet book. I love Ember’s sassy, sweet personality. She’s the kind of chick I’d love to be friends with. She’s real and honest, and the love she has for Bam tugged on my heart strings! <3 ~ Heather, 4.5 Sweet stars

OMFG this book had me trapped the entire day. Even with my sick Baby girl I had to Finish this book today.
Ladies let me tell you that Nate Reid gives his Dad a good run for his money. No he could never be better than his dad but damn that's some close 2nd. He is Hot as hell. Nate Grew up into such am amazing amazing Man. I just have loved seeing him grow and become what Parents Izzy and Axel would want him to be.... There s no words really that shows his true worth.
Emberlyn Damn does my heart break for this Amazing Talented young woman. At times because of Nate but you will glad to know that as soon as he gets head Screwed on straight by Maddox he sets his plan to win Ember..... Omg and watching that was so swoon and Beautiful. Nate is absolutely the perfect man for our Shy, Quiet Ember. he is perfect person to protect her heart and sould and bodyeven Her dad knows that and hands his baby girl without so much as an as Lifting his baby Finger.
It's also great see their parents guide them and support them. It's alway amazing see the Other Characters we have come to love and adore.

Sweet, scorching, and soulful, When I’m With You is an unforgettable friends-to-lovers romance that entrances you from the very first page and leaves you aching for more. Pulse-pounding. Heart-hitting. Soul-searing. This story bleeds angst as it wraps itself around your heart, feelings free-falling all over the pages.

Oh, why did I wait so long to meet the magical masterpieces of Harper Sloan? I’ve heard the Harper hype and now know that Harper’s books kick the hype’s tail as they are so much better. I don’t want to admit that I’ve been hoarding the Corporate Security series for an embarrassingly long amount of time, as they are the backstories to this one. I have been in the Harper darkness so long, and finally the light of sanity is shining through where I will devour the rest of Harper’s handiwork with a voracious hunger.

From the very first pages of When I’m With You, I knew I was in for a roller coaster of a romance, maybe even a heartbreaker; I was right. When I’m With You shook my soul and sent me on an emotional journey of epic love, one that was sad yet so stunning, special and sweet.

Beautiful brunette and brown-eyed Emberlyn ‘Ember’ Locke is 18, but a bit of an old soul who knows she is in love with her best guy friend, Nate, several years older.

“I’m in love with you. You know I love you, of course, you’re like one of my best friends, but I’m in love with you, [Nate].”

Nathaniel ‘Nate’ Reid with his green eyes, long brown hair, tall and muscular body, and dirty mouth is the ultimate alpha…and boy do I want a taste. While he has feelings for Ember, he has never stoked the flames as he would be playing with severe fire as she is forbidden with her being so much younger than his 24 years.

“Em. You know I love you, but I don’t love you like that…I love you as a friend.”

My heart breaks for Ember. Ouch, the sting of the friend card. A seriously crushing blow to the heart and head that haunts for a long time…sometimes forever.

“The tiny sliver of my heart that had held on praying he would change his mind and stop me dies and joins the rest of the pieces on the ground.”

There is not much more damaging to the heart and soul than unrequited love. The kind where one pours the heart out and that love…it’s not reciprocated. It hangs there, drifting in the wind, as it floats away, often leaving a piece behind where the one who loved never recovers.

“I decided no more stupid thoughts of something that will never be.”

While Nate rejected Ember and believes he can’t have her, she haunts his dreams. Every woman he is with is Ember. His firecracker sparks his everything: body, heart, and soul.

“It’s been years, years of fantasies and forbidden desire, and it never changes…a hollow pit inside me that I’ve only ever felt was filling up when her smiles came at me without pause.”

Push. Pull. Push. Pull. My heart is tugged back and forth, as it bends and then breaks for these two broken souls who should be soul mates. A beautifully broken war.

“I lift my gaze from the valley of her tan skin to look into her eyes. The anger is still there but it has dimmed, and in its place is pure f**king lust.”

The angst pours all over the pages as I want to push these broken-hearted friends who should be lovers together. Their pull is palpable and penetrating, and hard to fight. The chemistry is fire, breathing like a dragon around them, flames ignited and ready to burn.

“The kiss is all about domination, and at the moment, I’m not f**king sure I want to be the one to win this war.”

The kiss between Nate and Ember is fiery-hot, a powerful fireball of love, lust, and loathing. Nate is ready to finally dominate, and take what he should have claimed years ago: his forbidden firecracker.

“You are mine.”

Nate’s firecracker once burned for him, and Ember is afraid to get burned again. Her heart, once broken, is still cracked.

“I handed myself to you years ago, Nate, and the only thing that was missing was the silver f**king platter. You rejected me…I was crushed. You get that?...So, no…this will not be happening.”

If Nate wants to win the war on love, and claim his soul mate, he must convince Ember that what they have is not unrequited. What they have can be real. The past must stay in the past so the future can set them free.

“My Ember. I’m never letting go. Not now. Not ever.”

When I’m With You was with me, staying with me. Every. Step. Of. The. Way.

This beautiful and broken story possessed me, penetrating my heart, and pulling at every feeling as I pined for two friends meant to be more. There is nothing as nostalgic and sweet as a second-chance love story. When I'm With You called to my heart, beckoning it, and flooding it with hope and happiness as former friends and lovers are reunited. When I’m With You is an achingly addictive story that cast a spell me, and I can’t wait to bask in the magic of Harper Sloan’s other masterpieces.

Nate-Dog! Woooooo! Also I was so surprised when he called lle himself that, Axel just doesn't seem like the type of guy who has such a goof off of a son. And he seemed a lot more laid back in Liam's book than Dani's.

Super excited for this.

I have read all the books in the corps security series and in this new hope town series. It is very weird though the fact that I've never thought of Harper Sloan as one of my favorite writers when I actually love all the books I have read of hers.

When I'm With You was no exception.

I wanted Nate's book since he was freaking born (not really) I honestly thought his book was going to be the first in the series if not, the second. Joke's on me, it was the third. We were given hints of who the heroine was going to be in book 1.

Emberlyn Locke is not just Maddox's youngest daughter but she is the baby of the whole gang.
She's been in love with Nate since she was a teenager and three years prior to this story she decided to tell him about her feelings but Nate didn't react the way she expected.

Nate Reid is Axel's older kid, not a kid. He is 27 years old and he's starting a new business, a bar, DIrty Dog.
He's always been the jokester of the kids and people tend not take him seriously because of this but he is in fact very smart, he knows what he wants and he has goals. His dreams might not be what his parents want or expect from him but he knows he can do it.

Nate loves Ember but he never dared to cross that line. He is not only older but his life wasn't on track untill recently.
Now that he is finally putting everything together he knows that the only thing left is to get the girl. But he hurt her in the past so now he has to prove himself.

It is very rare that I don't rant over a heroine, most of the time they are annoying af. Ember wasn't. I wanted to smack her a bit in the beggining when she didn't connect the dots of things happening around her but she wasn't dumb she didn't expect something like what happened so I understand. I like her.

I really liked the plot, the relationship, the chemistry.
I weirdly didn't like Em's best friend and I have feeling she's going to be relevant in the future.

Nate's relationship with little Molly was the cutest. he has a great heart.
Nate in Dirty Dog was too much, so freaking hot.
But you wanna know what was the best? Every interaction between Maddox and Nate! so much feels.

The epilogues were too freaking cute.

Wow what can I say, Harper Sloan has done it again.

This is the Third book in the Hope town series. The book is based on Nathaniel Reid ( Nate ) and Emberlyn Locke ( em)
As with all Harper's books her men are Smoking Hot,Alpha males. Nate Reid is no different.
We first meet Nate and Emberlyn way back when Harper introduced the world to her first series, Corps Security. Nate is the son of Axel an Izzy Reid and Emberlyn is the daughter of Maddox and Emmy Locke.

I never thought I would ever say this but I think Nate Reid just stole my heart away from Axel Reid, Yep Harper has yet again made me fall in love with yet another one of her gorgeous men. I don't know how she does it, but she does and with each new book comes a sexy alpha.
Nate's grown up in to just that. Alpha male just like his dad,With a father like Axel Reid you wouldn't expect anything less. His alpha maleness comes out when Emberlyn is about. His softness and sweet side is when Molly ( Lee and Megan's daughter) is about.
Emberlyn's also grown in to a successful young lady. She's known what she's wanted since she was 18 years old. She's wanted Nate. Things don't always go the way you mind thinks it will. Emberlyn is left hurt and heartbroken when she tells Nate how she feels at her graduation party.

He said I was too young. I said he was perfect. He said our families wouldn’t understand. I said we could weather any storm. He said he would ruin me. And he was right.

“I pushed her away because not only was she too F*****g young, but also because I wasn’t ready to see what was right in front of my face.”
“And now?”
“And now, I’m not just ready to see it, I want it more than I want my next f*****g breath.”

Nate pushed Emberlyn away once and will stop at nothing to finally get her. After spending many years without her it's time to tell Emberlyn how he really feels . When he does finally tell her, it's HOT! (Magic Mike comes to mind)
Nate is the owner of the newest bar in town,Dirty Dog. Let's just say if I was visiting Nate's bar I would be trying out one of his speciality drinks and most definitely be sucking on his Lollipop!.
When they both decide it's the right time to be together they do need to jump a few hurdles to get their happily ever after. There is nothing this family can't do and will stop anything that gets in the way of the women they love. Nate is yet another favourite of mine and it scares me how much Harper makes every male she writes about even more sexier and alpha than the one before. You can't just love one you just got to love them all.

The thing I love about all Harper's books is we still get to see how all her previous characters are doing. This makes the book even more special. I love nothing more then seeing how some of my favourite Alpha males are coming on. Family is everything to all of them and they way they all come together is amazing.

Nate and Emberlyn's book deserves more than 5 stars. It's brilliantly wrote and had me smiling so much. When I'm with you has everything and more. It's sweet, funny , sexy and has drama. Wouldn't expect anything less from a Harper Sloan's book's.I can't wait to see who we get next but more importantly how all my other favourite characters are doing too.

What do you get when a man raised by an over the top Alpha realizes he loves a girl raised by an even more over the top Alpha? You get Nate muthereffin’ Reid and Emberlyn Locke!!!! Nate is HOT as h double hockey sticks and Ember is perfect for him. After reading their story I needed a cigarette, a fan and a dip in the Arctic Ocean!!!

Harper Sloan consistently puts out great books. Just when I think she can’t outdo herself she does! I fell in love with all of the men and women of the Corps Security series (but still a tad miffed about Coop..LOL). I didn’t think she could top the Alpha Men of Corps, but dangit if she proved me wrong, I should’ve realized the Corps guys couldn’t help but raise Alphas and their daughters? All strong and witty, they definitely give the boys of the group a run for their money.

Nate is very Alpha, even a little more Alpha than his Daddy. But Nate is also a refreshing, different kind of Alpha, he is lighthearted, jokes and everyone loves him, especially a too young for him Ember. When Ember was eighteen Nate made the decision to squash the developing feelings Ember had for him because he was too old for her, not to mention Daddy Maddox just might kill him if he touched his baby girl.

Ember knew at a young age she that Nate was it for her, when Nate crushes her heart Ember throws herself into her painting. Ember starts to avoidss family functions as much as she can so she doesn’t run into Nate.

Three years later on Ember’s 21st birthday, her friends take her to the grand opening of Nate’s new club. When Nate sees Ember something snaps and he decides he is not wasting any time, he WILL claim HIS woman!

The road to Nate and Ember’s happily ever after is not easy. They have a lot of emotions to work through and Nate has to survive Maddox Locke. While the road may be bumpy the journey is full of laughs, emotions, hot sexy times, the amazing Corps cast and their kids. The scenes between Maddox and Nate are great. And we can’t forget the fabulous Sway, he makes an appearance with his typical flair!

When I’m With You is without a doubt one of my top reads of 2016 and definitely one of the best Harper has written yet! I am so glad I took a chance on an Indie author I had never heard of years ago, because she has turned out to be one of my all time favorite authors. I highly suggest you give her books a try, you can read When I’m With You as a standalone, but once you finish you will want to go back and read the Corps Security series starting with book one Axel.
