Josh Elliott is on the move again.

Less than two years after hopping from Good Morning America to NBC Sports, Elliott is saying goodbye to the Peacock.

“Josh and NBC Sports mutually decided to part ways, and we wish him the best of luck in the future,” NBC said in a statement to EW.

Elliott, 44, joined NBC Sports in 2014 after a very public but ultimately unsuccessful negotiation with ABC News. At the time, Disney/ABC TV TV Group president Ben Sherwood told staff in a statement that “we have been negotiating with Josh these past several months. In good faith, we worked hard to close a significant gap between our generous offer and his expectations.” Elliott played a key role in helping to boost GMA to No. 1 status before he left.

He was preceded out the door at ABC by Sam Champion, who went to the Weather Channel.

It was widely assumed that Elliott joined NBC in preparation for the possible departure of Matt Lauer from Today. But Elliott publicly denied such a plan was in the works while he appeared — albeit sporadically — for the sports department.

“I’m grateful for the chance to work with the remarkable team at NBC Sports, and appreciate their support as I look forward to what’s next,” Elliott said in a statement to EW.

It’s unclear where Elliott will land next, though a report in The Hollywood Reporter suggests that he’s looking at Fox Sports.
