Record Broken!: Women's Golf Captures 18th-Straight MAC Championship

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – Mid-American Conference history was made Sunday as Kent State's women's golf recorded its 18th consecutive championship, the most any sport as ever won in a row since the MAC's inception.

The Golden Flashes shot 1-over in the final round to end the event with an 868, 4-over for a four-stroke victory.  Toledo came in second place at 8-over while Ohio finished in third at 18-over par through three rounds.

Wad Phaewchimplee made the All-Tournament team as she placed in a tie for 4th with an even 216 in the event after a final day of 1-over.

Amira Alexander was close behind, shooting 1-over overall finishing in 6th place after her second-straight round of 71 in the event.  Michaela Finn and Josée Doyon both had a 7th place finish by shooting 2-over.  Finn shot even par in the final round while Doyon was 1-over.  Taylor Kim, who was named the 2016 MAC Golfer of the Year, finished at 9-over in a tie for 15th.

Kent State had the best scoring on par fours and par fives in the event while also leading the field with 50 birdies.  Phaewchimplee and Finn were both the best in the field by shooting 5-under on par fives.  Alexander held a share of the lead with 40 pars.  Both Finn and Doyon helped lead the field with 12 birdies each through the three rounds.

Kim, Phaewchimplee and Doyon all were named First Team All-MAC.  Alexander and Finn were named to the Second Team.

The Golden Flashes will now await the selection announcement Monday night at 6:00 p.m. to see where they will land at NCAA Regionals.
