Holden Scott is the prince of professional football. At least he was before he lost it all... or more to the point, before he threw it all away. Now he's out of a job, out of the public's good graces, and perhaps just a little out of his mind. So when a friend offers up his remote lodge in the wilds of Colorado, giving Holden some time away to get his life back on track, he can hardly say no. The last thing he expects is to see a beautiful girl in the woods—one wearing a white, lace dress who appears in the moonlight, and leaves no footprints behind. Is she a dream? A ghost? A product of his muddled imagination? Or something entirely different?

Midnight Lily is the haunting love story of two lost souls reaching for each other in the dark. A tale of healing, acceptance, and the worlds we create to protect our own hearts. It is a story of being lost, of being found, and of being in the place between.

This is a stand-alone Sign of Love novel, inspired by Virgo
Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

If I had to compare this book to red grapes or green grapes, I would pick red grapes. Not because I necessarily like them better than green grapes, but because there are more options with red grapes. It seems like they come either seedless or with seeds, big or small, purple-ish red or just plain red. But green grapes are usually just green and seedless. But I could be wrong. It could just be because I shop at Wal-Mart and there isn't a lot of selection of green grapes, other than the one. Or maybe the person who does the ordering for the produce department there really likes red grapes, so that's why there's a large variety of them.
Anyway, my point is, Mia is red grapes for me. All her books are red grapes. We should read all her books and make wine, mkay?

“Thank you for coming for me,” I said.
“Always.”

Mia Sheridan is one of the most talented and compelling authors of the contemporary romance genre. Her writing is captivating and enthralling, and you can always count on her love stories to be entirely unique. No matter which book of hers you pick up, you're guaranteed to be taken on a ride unlike any before!

This is a spoiler free review, but here's where it gets tricky. This book was SO different that it's nearly impossible to talk about in any context without giving away a crucial plot twist, or being misleading.

Here's what you go into it knowing: it's a contemporary romance standalone, and it is NOT paranormal. Here is the blurb...

Holden Scott is the prince of professional football. At least he was before he lost it all . . . or more to the point, before he threw it all away.

Intriguing, right?? That made me desperate to read it. So there's something going on. It's not paranormal. But then, this is the prologue...

I saw her everywhere. Walking down sidewalks, in crowded restaurants, once in a brief flash of dark hair and white lace right before an elevator door closed. Without thinking, my heart thundered in my chest, I’d run up four flights of stairs only to find it was someone else. Someone holding a little boy’s hand. She’d pulled him close to her side as she’d exited the elevator, looking at me warily as if I might grab him and run.

Those were the times I still doubted my own sanity, still questioned whether she had ever existed at all. But then I’d remember the feel of her fingertips on my skin, the slippery silk of her hair, the sound of her laughter, and the way I loved her still, and I’d know, I’d know, deep down to my soul that she was real.

I dreamed of her, and in the darkness, she held me in her arms. In the darkness, she whispered that I was strong enough to hold on to, that I was worthy of the love she’d given, and she reminded me of who I was before I was anyone at all…

Because now, just as then, when the daylight came, she was no longer there.

So... what could it be??? I guessed, I theorized, I flipped the pages as fast as I could to try and get answers. I needed to know what was going on! Even though I was desperate for answers, this is one of those books that you should just dive into blind. Even if I just describe to you what the story is about, then by default whatever I say will be either misleading OR inaccurate. Because of that crucial twist I mentioned earlier... In actual fact, the last paragraph of the blurb is the most accurate description of the book imaginable.

Midnight Lily is the haunting love story of two lost souls reaching for each other in the dark. A tale of healing, acceptance, and the worlds we create to protect our own hearts. It is a story of being lost, of being found, and of being in the place between.

I was completely captivated by the story. I could NOT put it down. The first half of the book made me swoon and fall in love while a dozen theories formed in my mind. At the halfway mark, that first twist left me reeling -- WOAH!!! And the second half of the book flew by as I tried to piece together everything that was happening. In the interest of honesty though, I will say that I was not satisfied the ending. I finished the book feeling... confused. I'm the kind of reader who loves twists, but by the end of the book, I want to fully feel like I'm "in the loop". I felt there were a lot of blanks that I was left to fill in on my own, and my personal preference would be that, even if it was right in the end, the reader had been 'let in' on what was actually happening in a more direct and explicit manner. Like, I still have questions. To clarify, I really enjoyed this book as a whole and wouldn't want a single thing that already exists in it to be changed. Everything there is amazing, unique, and beautifully written. However, I felt it needed a more at the end to round out the story and bring it full circle... Just a little more explanation and clarity.

But however you look at it, one thing remains undeniable and that is that the message this book drove home about love finding a way no matter what the circumstances was beautiful. Truly beautiful.

Where do you land?
In your arms. I land in your arms, and you land in mine.

Rating: 4 stars. Standalone.

Midnight Lily . I’m not sure what to say about this book. It may be the hardest book I’ve ever had to review. I feel like anything I say will be spoiler-ish so it will be short and sweet.

Is this like any other book Mia Sheridan has written? No. It’s completely different. Don’t go in expecting this to be anything like her other books. Her writing is amazing as always, but the story is different than anything I’ve ever read.

Both of these characters touched me. Both were imperfect in a lot of ways, but their love story was hauntingly beautiful and completely all-consuming. The beginning did have a bit of a slow start, but once it gripped me I couldn't put it down.

I’m not sure if I have ever been as shocked in a book as I was while reading this. Midnight Lily truly surprised me. I found myself re-reading several things after finishing the book. My mind was blown and I didn’t know how to think or feel. I was overwhelmed. I’m still overwhelmed and it’s been days.

If you’re looking for an unconventional, evocative, beautiful and emotional read- I would recommend this one. Go in blind and enjoy the twists, turns, surprises and the feels. It’s a story that I can say I’ll never forget and gets 5 stars from me!

“I'm going to love you forever," I murmured between kisses. "Forever. In the darkness, or in the light."

To say this book was unconventional and completely different from what I had expected will be the understatement of the year. I love this author’s writing and I enjoyed some of her other stories, but this one it just did not work for me. I loved the premise and I found it very intriguing, but the execution for me was poorly done. On top of that, at times everything felt so rushed.

I won’t talk about the plot since the blurb says everything you have to know about this story. For many readers this story will be emotional, unforgettable and mind blowing in the best kind of way. I’m sorry to say this, but for me was a completely mess. I’m aware of the fact I was supposed to be moved by this characters’ story, but unfortunately I felt nothing.

description

Why? Because I just never fully connected with the story or the characters. I wanted…badly to feel something and I tried, trust me, but sadly I just couldn’t. And I think one of the reasons, the main one is the fact the story is very, very confusing. While reading the story I come up with many theories, but of course none of them were correct. Ok…moving on. To be honest my mind is still a mess….and I finished this book three days ago. The plot was so…tangled, confusing and the twists, turns and later revelations were crazy to stay the least. At some point I couldn’t believe what I was reading. And damn the last twist was more than crazy. Needless to say, I would have preferred the story to be “simpler”. (I can’t explain it better without revealing some aspect of the story.)

description

I know many readers will like/love/connect these two main characters. For me they were just ok and their romance felt a lot like insta-love. A lot!! On top of that I didn’t feel any chemistry or whatever between them.

description

Overall, this was just an ok read for me, but I like to mention that I loved the concept of the story and if the plot would have been handled in another way the story would have been a total winner for me.

Moving on...

My mind is still swirling. Because this book is a total mindf*ck. I’m still confused and I can’t stop thinking about this story built on several mysteries. The story which can be fully understood and appreciated only if you pay attention to every detail. The story about two damaged souls.

Lily. Dark hair and a white lace dress. Living like a ghost in the forest shadows. Surrounded by mystery. Gentle, compassionate and pure. Young and innocent but wise. Kept in the dark and forgotten. Tasting like hope and longing for freedom.

Holden. A beautiful and damaged man with a broken heart. Wallowing in ugly self-pity. Lacking for nothing, yet sad and unhappy. Searching for a new beginning.

Both of them lonely and united by a beautiful forest.

OK, now forget everything I said above because that is not what this book is about. Confused much? Well, you should be. I was confused too. If you want the answers you have to read the book. And reading it once may not be enough.

Why 5 stars?

I’ll be honest with you. I wasn’t too thrilled with the second half of the book. In fact, after I finished it yesterday I was disappointed and angry with the author for playing with my feelings. I felt stupid and betrayed. I was left with too many questions and hypotheses. I wanted to give it 3 stars.

But then I decided to do some re-reading today hoping to find answers. I also read all of the reviews searching for spoilers and theories which would help me better understand the story. And by paying attention to the smallest details and clues I finally managed to connect all the dots and fully understand the story.

Mia Sheridan is without doubt a truly talented author and this book is really a work of art. Her writing is exceptional, at times poetic and enchanting. She vividly tells the story by addressing to all of the reader’s senses. Her descriptions, full of visual, auditory, tactile and olfactory imagery are simply magical.

Every word and every detail in this book carries meaning and was carefully planned. Writing such a unique, complex and meaningful story with a difficult subject-matter while taking into account every detail is not an easy task. So I’m giving it 5 stars for its originality, exceptional writing and great complexity.

Sometimes sadly it happens when you don’t fully connect with the characters within a story line. Sadly, even the hero and heroine’s love connection didn’t sweep me up and that’s a very important aspect of any story. It hurts to not fall right along with a couple.

”I barely know you, Lily, but I already like you. And somehow, I feel like I need you.”

description

I held out hope that the epic would hit me like it has done for so many of my friends.

description

The twists or wow moments just left me a bit confused
still idea was very clever just lost something in it's execution.

description

Once I finished reading this book I chatted with friends who 5 starred to make sure that they didn’t get more from the story than I did. I was definitely intrigued and entertained by story and had fun chatting about it and of course have loved several of the author’s prior books. For me the fail was in the messy delivery however, the concept was definitely a fascinating idea.

I am a huge fan of Mia Sheridan, she has written some of my favorite books. What I love the most about her writing is she can deliver the feels like no other, so of course I was so excited to read Midnight Lily. Imagine my surprise when this book turned out to be so completely different than what I was expecting.

Midnight Lily is so different from what I was expecting, but it did have one thing all of Mia’s book have: feels. Tons of feels and characters that stay with you. It has been days since I finished and I am still thinking about them. They have absolutely consumed my thoughts and I have spent hours thinking about them. The what ifs and what they are doing now has kept my thoughts occupied.

“There’s always someone society chooses not to see. There’s always someone who is invisible through no fault of their own.”

This book is very difficult to review without providing any spoilers and having this book spoiled for you would be such a huge disservice to you and Mia. Midnight Lily just needs to be embraced and read. I will say it’s nice to have your friends to vent to because there are some moments I had to message my bestie like a maniac. You know where send multiple messages basically saying the same thing because she is asleep, but you need to get it out…yep, it will do that.

If you are looking for a book that’s full of feels, angst and twists this is the book for you. I feel like that line leads you to believe this is a suspenseful read, it’s not. It’s this beautiful epic love story that makes you feel everything. That had me obsessing over fictional characters. That has been the subject of so many conversations with my bestie. Even today I was cleaning house and thinking about things again. I swear this book will stay with you.

I don’t typically do this, but feel in this book it may be necessary. When you initially start Midnight Lily you are expecting that insane hook you get from Mia’s books and may feel let down. Please give this book time, because in the end you will be grateful you did. Okay. Enough fangirling, as you know I highly recommend this book and cannot wait for my friends to read it so we can discuss!!

"I'm not afraid of the darkness. I've been there before. I'll step into it willingly, unhesitatingly, and I'll come find you. No one else could make that promise and mean it, Lily. No one. No one except me."

Do yourself a favor and just dive in BLIND, believe me, you don't need to know anything beyond that that it's a beautiful love story, with a happy ending, and a unique setting.

It's so different from Mia's other works, yes, but all of her books are not alike, they're different in their own ways and unique, and this one is a beautifully intricately woven masterpiece, with as much love and romance as her other books.
“There’s always someone society chooses not to see. There’s always someone who is invisible through no fault of their own.”

These two characters will stay with me forever, I loved them so much, I felt their every emotion, I experienced life through their eyes and it was magnificent!

This. This book will stay with me FOREVER, I loved it immensely, and I highly recommend it.

2 stars or 3 Stars? I'm not sure. I'm still quite confused!

I'll start my review by saying that I love this author and haven't read a book of hers I didn't adore...until now. It's not that I disliked this book–I actually quite liked it–it's just that I didn't fully understand it. Frankly, the flow of the plot lost me one too many times, and though I liked the concept, I finished it feeling more baffled and confused than anything else. I think this is one of those books that will either work for you or it won't. It didn't really work for me but it definitely did for other. Oh well, you can't love, or even understand, them all.

I have been a fan of Mia Sheridan for a while now. Her stories are so breathtakingly beautiful and I always get swept away by them. Midnight Lily was no exception but it definitely was so very different from the other books in the Signs of Love series. Be prepared to have your mind totally blown away by the time you finish reading it. I had thought the revelation at about the 54% mark was the true WTF moment, but no, it is at the end that you totally will be left stunned. The ending left me sad. I know some people ended up really disliking the book and some loved. I’d say that I really liked it a lot but would have loved it if the ending had gone a different way.

You really need to go into this one blind. Spoilers will just ruin it for you. All I can say is that I really did love the hero and heroine. My heart broke for them. These two suffered unimaginable pain during their childhood which left lasting effects on their adult lives. But what is beautiful is that they found true love and happiness in each other.

What I advise is that you try to only read spoiler free reviews and don’t go on the Facebook discussion groups till you have read the book. Actually, the FB group will help you once you are done because I was quite confused by the time I finished the book. Even though I'm left feeling melancholy and bewildered, I really did like it. I guess that means I am a little crazy too!

Hmm... I didn't love this one. Slapping 2 stars on a Mia Sheridan book kills me, but for me, it was just okay.

I get the idea, but I just felt like the execution was off. It had potential, but the road the author took me down felt choppy, and just odd. But, it got a lot of love, so maybe I'm just being difficult, but I'm disappointed.

4.5 'Where do you fly, Lily?' Stars!
BR with my dear Shhluts, Anna and Ebru :)
photo Midnight Lily - Mia Sheridan_zpsdlmazgaw.png

Mia Sheridan has an amazing talent: she surprises her readers every-freaking-time. When Anna, Ebru and I decided to read this book together, I was not expecting what happened (I believe no one expected it! lol) but even with that, this was a great read. Now, I don't know how this review will come out because it's very difficult to explain without spoilers but I will try!

Midnight Lily is a stand-alone novel that belongs to Mia Sheridan's A Sign of Love series and it tells the story of two damaged souls who find each other in the darkness and together, even though the difficult situations in between, they are able to find the light when they fall in love.

I dreamed of her, and in the darkness, she held me in her arms. In the darkness, she whispered that I was strong enough to hold on, that I was worthy of the love she'd given, and she reminded me who I was before I was anyone at all.
My Lily of the Night. Only of the moon.

Midnight Lily is not the typical love story, Sheridan's readers know that already because Mia's novels are not exactly conventional. Lily and Holden are both suffering so much at the beginning, Holden struggling with lost (and addiction to painkillers) and Lily because of loneliness. When they meet is like they see the light coming from the darkness and as time passes by and they fall in love, they get better.

I barely know you, Lily, but I already like you. And somehow, I feel like I need you.

"There's always someone society chooses not to see. There's always someone who is invisible through no fault of their own."

What I enjoyed most about this novel is, obviously, the love story and how different it is from what we have seen of Mia Sheridan. There is always this incertitude around both main characters that keeps the reader completely focused on the story. There are twists that you definitely do not expect. And there is, of couse, a fantastic chemistry between the couple. Mia's characters are complex and so amazing, she gets me everytime!

"You're perfect," I told her. There wasn't another man on the planet who had gazed upon her like this. Only me. "My Lily, my ghost," I smiled, "my dream. Only mine."

"Happily ever after doesn't mean a lifetime of perfection. I don't think anyone believes that happily ever after means there are no unhappy days, even unhappy years. It means loving forever, despite all the many reasons it's easier not to."

I understand people who maybe did not enjoy Midnight Lily as much as other books by Mia but this is her outstanding writing skills together with a magical and different love story. I really enjoyed this novel and even though I was not expecting everything that happened, this was a great read. It definitely will stay with me forever.

"I love you, Boy Scout," she whispered.
"I love you, Lily of the Night. I love you so much." I let go of her hands and reached up to hold her face, her beautiful face. I brought my lips to hers and kissed her. "I'm going to love you forever," I murmured between kisses. "Forever. In the darkness, or in the light."

"She walks in beauty, like the night," he whispered. My fingers slowed and I smiled. "Of cloudless climes and starry skies; and all that's best of dark and bright."

Therefore, my rating for Midnight Lily is 4.5 STARS because this was an amazing love story that will stay forever with me for the unconventional aspects in it, for Mia's great writing skills and the complexity of her characters. If you want to read a different love story with still Mia's touches in it, please check this one out! :)

4 Beautiful Stars****

(ARC kindly provided by author in exchange for an honest review)

I've been thinking about how to write this review all day long, and I have come to the conclusion that it's impossible to describe the story without spoiling it; the less you know the better it will be.

Mia Sheridan's writing style is a beautiful and poetic as ever. She has a knack for creating remarkable stories that get under the reader's skin and take over the heart.

 photo image_zpsoii7rglm.jpeg

Have you ever felt a love that is so powerful that it makes you crazy? The kind that makes you feel like you can fly. It even feels like that love can guide you through the dark, and consumes your every action and thought. That type of special love is what these lovers found in the middle of a beautiful forest...

They found a love that makes them want to be the best they can be, so they can feel worthy of the other but in the same token, they are both flawed and ready to accept the other one for exactly who they are.

Their beautiful story was born in the night but it survived a lifetime...

Midnight Lily was a story that was difficult for me to understand, maybe I'll never fully get it but I enjoyed it all the same. Mia Sheridan's words always feel like velvet in my heart and anything she writes is decadent to me. Gorgeous story!!!!!

Wow my God. I'm speechless right now... I loved it. This story caught me so bad... :) Especially while I was reading almost last 50 pages of the book, my hands literally shaking and my heart. Oh my poor heart was beating so fast.. It was so captivating. :)

This book is about two broken souls who finds each other in the darkness and they accepted each other no matter what happened... I loved their flaws and Lily & he were imperfectly perfect together. I really enjoyed this book so much. And I highly recommend it to everyone who believes soul mates and true love! :)

Title: Midnight Lily
Series: Signs of Love
Author: Mia Sheridan
Release date: 1st March, 2016

Midnight Lily is unlike anything I have previously read from Mia Sheridan. It does however contain the core elements synonymous to her books that I love so much. Atmospheric writing, wonderfully generous protagonists and an epic love story at the heart of it all.

"We will never be perfect or without flaws, the lives we've been given are not like that. But, Lily, in my heart, you are perfect for me. Perfectly mine. And I'm yours."

Given the amount and variety of books we read it's wonderful feeling to still be genuinely surprised by novels. Mia Sheridan achieves this with Midnight Lily. It's a roller coaster of emotions, at times the situation is a desperately sad one, but I was uplifted by the hope & love at the core of the story.

It's takes a better reviewer than I to describe the story without spoiling it for the reader. It has to be read, to be felt, to experience the wonder (and mind-f*ck) of it all. Midnight Lily is one Mia Sheridan's edgiest books to date. I have replayed the story and characters in my mind countless times since I've finished reading. If that is not the sign of a great book, I'm not sure what is.

"I'm not afraid of the darkness. I've been there before. I'll step into it willingly, unhesitatingly, and I'll come find you. No one else could make that promise and mean it, Lily. No one. No one except me."

Midnight Lily is the 1st book I’ve read by Mia Sheridan.

Wow!!!What an introduction to this author’s work.

A heart touching, evocative, enthralling and emotionally charged love story of two damaged souls who find something incredible together and who will not allow anything to keep them apart.
I was lost, my hands bloody and abraded, out of breath, nauseated, and so damn …sad.
“You’ve lost your way,” came her voice.
“Yes,” I whispered. “yes, I know.”
“Come,” she said. “I’ll help you find your way again.”
Beautifully written – author’s voice is so riveting – she takes you on an incredibly emotional journey that leaves you breathless until the very end.
”It’s just so strange to think about someone standing here once upon a time carving these hands, thinking whatever he was thinking, maybe worrying about something, maybe annoyed about someone.” She smiled softly as she watched her own finger moving around the caring of the hands.
The epilogue blew me away!!!! I had to go back and think about what I had read before to try and work out what was going on in those last pages!!!

This was certainly an unusual and unique story. And I will probably read it again in the future.

I loved this quote:
”Oh, Lily. Happily ever after doesn’t mean a lifetime of perfection. I think think anyone believes that happily ever after means there are no unhappy days, even unhappy years.
It means loving forever, despite all the many reasons it’s easier not to.”

I'm so disappointed.Seriously I love this author and so far I've loved everything I've read by her. I was so excited to read this one, but unfortunately it wasn't what I expected. There were some parts that I liked but most of the story was confusing to me. I was intrigued to see what was going to happen, but it didn't work for me.

5 "My Lily of the Night" Stars!

 photo 6B19006A-1833-43ED-9282-789A109DC7D2_zpsmll4str1.gif

One word for this book...MINDF@CK. My brain hurts.

Okay, that being said...

I'll be 100% straightforward, my review will be simple and vague. Take one piece of advice, if the blurb interests you or if you're simply a fan of all things Mia Sheridan, have faith and jump in blind. One teeny tiny spoiler will ruin the ride for this beautiful love story. I'm dreading to see all the "recap the entire story" reviews to come because right now this story is the best kept secret.

In a nutshell, Midnight Lily is about two very imperfect people that find themselves perfect for each other. It's a very unconventional, almost haunting, love story and I found myself gripping my kindle as tight as could be, feverishly turning the pages to see where the story was taking me. It wasn't a sleepy, relaxing "beachy" read, but more so a gripping, all-consuming, yet trickle-fed love story. It has an almost dreamlike effect on the reader and I often wondered if everything was truly as it seemed.

 photo 807DAE5C-219C-4955-AFD7-5613DD8FE40E_zpsemg4bdlr.jpg

Midnight Lily has almost eerie yet beautiful undertones; sadness coupled with grief; profound love and a deep-seated understanding of each other's unique needs.

"There's always someone society chooses not to see. There's always someone who is invisible through no fault of their own."

This book was all-consuming and like nothing I've read before- and nothing like Mia Sheridan's typical tropes. She ventured outside her tug-at-the-heartstrings contemporary romance plots and took this to an entirely higher level.

I finished the book a few hours ago and find myself rethinking it all...trying to piece together everything within my scrambled mind. But in the end, the biggest twist of all pulls everything together.

So if you're in the mood for a book that'll challenge your psyche, melt your heart, grip you from page one to the final words, Mia Sheridan delivers in spades with Midnight Lily.

Genre: Romantic Suspense
Type: Standalone book from Sign Of Love series
POV: First Person - Multiple
Rating:

Holden Scott was a fallen football star. When life became too much, he agreed to recuperate and rejuvenate at a remote cabin in the woods. But the solitary existence was starting to get to him, until she met a mysterious lady in white.

Lily knew the woods like the back of her hand. It is where she felt alive and free. She found kindred spirit in Holden and his presence finally soothed her lonely heart. But the darkness was ever present and threatened to consume what they fought hard to build together.

I actually had absolutely no idea what the story is about before I started reading and that is really the best way to enjoy this book. This one is definitely different from the author’s previous works and I love it because this is the kind of books that appeal to me.

Life can still hold miracles, even very small ones.

I found both characters to be incredibly intriguing. It was really interesting how you get to lean about each character, while everything was still shrouded in mystery.

What I love the most about the story is the elements of misdirection. There were clues scattered around but I didn’t paid much attention to them (even from some that actually made me pause and question things) because the story forced me to pay attention to something else.

But then I'd remember the feel of her fingertips on my skin, the slippery silk of her hair, the sound of her laughter, and the way I loved her still, and I'd know, I'd know, deep down to my soul that she was real.

The first 50% was slow pace, but I didn’t mind it at all. I actually love the mystery behind the characters. And I really love the eerie feelings of the ambiance. I could feel like I really was in the woods, feeling the dampness of earth beneath my feet, grasping the thin air looking for answers.

I understand why some people don't like it and not feeling it. It is not your typical romance but it's a beautiful love story after all if you dig a little deeper than the surface. I just love this kind of stories that required some effort for you to see the point of it all and the point of this book is that true love can come to anyone at any circumstances.

“Most people only get to fall in love with their beloved once. I get to fall in love with you over and over in a hundred different lives.”

For hopeless romantics, this book will probably leave you less satisfied. But for me, I find it to be incredibly romantic in a beautifully unconventional way because love is not straight and narrow. Just because it bent a little, doesn’t mean it’s any lesser.

Well, with a huge big pile of WTF?, this is going to be another unpopular opinion from me!

I love Mia Sheridan. Flat out LOVE her! Her writing is beautiful and her stories have rocked my world, making me cry, laugh and fall in love over and over again. This book is a huge departure for her, unlike anything she’s written before, and unfortunately it just did not work for me.

This is an almost impossible book to review. It truly is one of those cases where anything I say will be a huge spoiler, so I’m just going to copy this little gem from the official synopsis which summarises it perfectly, and leave it at that…

Midnight Lily is the haunting love story of two lost souls reaching for each other in the dark. A tale of healing, acceptance, and the worlds we create to protect our own hearts. It is a story of being lost, of being found, and of being in the place between.

I started this book with an idea of what was happening, and I turned out being wrong. Then I thought I knew what was happening again, and again I turned out to be wrong . This book contains twists, turns and bombshells that had me screaming out “OH MY GOD” and left my jaw hanging open while I took everything in. And not just once, but multiple times.

At its heart is a beautiful love story and as usual, Mia Sheridan’s writing is absolutely beautiful as she weaves her intriguing story. Highly emotional, she gets you immediately invested and proceeds to take you on a wild ride of romance, drama, and a man trying desperately to move on from his past.

“I barely know you, Lily, but I already like you. And somehow, I feel like I need you.”

I was enjoying the characters and their journey, and the romance was building beautifully, and with that hint of mystery, I was desperately trying to figure out what was going on and where the story was going to go. Then that first bombshell hit and it left me breathless. Just wow. And from there the story twists and turns, taking me on a highly unpredictable journey that had my mind spinning. But, I have to say, as excited as I was to see what was going to happen, the twists in the second half became excessive and chapter by chapter, I became more and more disconnected from the story.

.

My rating, which was up around 4.5, started to drop as things started to unfold in the second half, and then the book ended and I was like, WTF? And honestly, I’m really disappointed because it started off so promisingly.

I’m sure lots of people will love this book. They will love the underlying message that the book contains, and while parts of the story were really great, the ending brought it down for me and sadly I ended up not liking it much at all.

2 disappointed stars.

Midnight Lily is another book from Mia Sheridan, my dear author. Since the moment I heard about this new coming book, I was super hyped and I wanted to weep right there. Anyway, this book is written lyrically, every word is just like a song for me. Lily and Holden complement each other in the weird way, yet I love where the story goes in the beginning, just only the beginning though.

It's hard to write this review honorably. I know everyone gave this book 5 stars and said it's so beautiful and haunting. I totally agree with you all, but let me get it straight, this book had dragged my mood down tremendously when I finished the last page. I felt very awkward to continue this book at somewhere between 60-70%. The twist not only blew my mind away, but also got me to the point I wanted to take a break to reconsider it deliberately. I felt tired, I couldn't understand those acts of the characters at all like it's from another planet. They haven't been the real thing for me even now.

I have a problem with Lily and Holden. At first, I couldn't see the connection between them, it's just like they both pop up from nowhere and fall in love so quickly. Holden sees her and he's already falling in love with her as if it's Sleeping Beauty from Disney, when the prince wandered through the wood and met a girl who sang a song with birds. He loved her. He wanted to know her name but she's so shy and ran deep into the wood expeditiously. So he followed her and asked her "Who are you ?"

She answered him "Not today"

Why can't it be today ? Can anybody tell me ?

Well, the only thing I loved about this book is the twist. I was suffering from shell shock the first time I knew it's not what I'd thought, then I started asking myself, NOW WHAT ? The story after the twist couldn't captivate me as it did, it lost its magic and I felt detached from the story
So I couldn't get myself to enjoy it anymore. Like I was Adele and just keep chasing pavements, even if it leads me nowhere ~~~

However, Midnight Lily is an interesting reading, you'll get curious all along the story and the relationship between Lily and Holden is very delicate as butterfly's wings. I'll see how two people as broken as they are getting together. It's sweet (overly sweet for me tho). And Mia's writing style will warm your heart like nothing can.

Wow!

Happily ever after doesn't mean a lifetime of perfection. I don't think anyone believes that happily ever after means there are no unhappy days, even unhappy years. It means loving forever, despite all the many reasons it's easier not to.

There is this movie with Robin Williams, "What dreams may come". You most likely remember it. Chris loses his children, his life and suddenly he is in heaven and he is not happy because his wife is somehow in hell, lost in her crazy mind. And he tries to find her, he keeps looking for her because heaven without his only love equals personal hell. He knows that she exists, he knows that she is real and she needs his help because he simply believes this fact:
What's true in our minds is true, whether some people know it or not.
And he finds her.

You may ask, 'why is this relevant to this book?'

Well, this book is not what you think it is. This book is basically a journey to the human mind.

Yes, it is romance.
Yes, it talks about pure love and commitment.
Yes, it is about two people who have fallen in love.
Yes, there is happily ever after.

But nothing is what is seems.
But nobody is who you think he/she is.
But there are twists and turns that they may make you gasp "WTF" many times.

When the main male character from the book says to Lily:
If you go away, then I'll come and find you, even if it means I have to get lost for a while, too ,
I think I was crying harder than the first time I watched the Robin Williams' movie and there was this scene when he finds his broken wife and tells her: Annie, I'm here babe, I still exist.

Please, be open-minded when you start this book!

3,5 Beautifully Haunted Stars.

This is one of those stories you should jump in blind and just enjoy the ride. So I will just say that Holden is a football player that fell out of grace. So when he decides it’s time for a break and goes to a remote place, he starts seeing a girl in a white dress. In the beginning he doesn’t even know if the girl is real, but when he decides to dig deeper, his whole life is about to change.

description

I will not say a lot about this book, because I believe it’s one of those readings you should just jump in and enjoy all the twists and turns blindly.
Let me start by saying I’m a huge Mia Sheridan fan. I’ve read all her books (and I will keep doing it) and I’ve rated all of them 5 stars. That’s how good and how much of a romance queen she is. But for some reason, despite liking it, this book wasn’t my favorite. I don’t know if it was all the twist, how the story developed of the whole ethereal feeling of this book, I didn’t fall in love with it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a different, emotional and beautiful romance. And it’s written by Mia so you know its written amazingly. I just couldn’t love it or thought it will be an unforgettable reading for me… I think I’m just a more “conventional romance” kind of girl.
However, if you are a fan of the author or just want a refreshing romance, this is definitely a good choice.

FINALLY!! I one clicked this release day and I am FINALLY going to jump on this tonight, this is one of my most highly anticipated books of March..

I've just been warned by two friends that this book is going to f*ck with my mind..GREAT!! They were definitely telling the truth..

MIDNIGHT LILY: Introduces us to Holden whose been dropped off at his mates remote cabin, no civilisation for miles, a chance for him to detox, find himself again, surrounded by nothing but nature.

Image and video hosting by TinyPicCompletely isolated, nothing except air, forestry, stone and sky, oh and an abandoned mental institution.

Straight away there is talk of a ghost that wanders the woods at night and that the old abandoned mental institution five miles away.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic "Damn, when you build a remote lodge in the wilderness, you don't mess around. This is like the fucking Shining, dude. Does it come with a set of spooky twins?”

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Image and video hosting by TinyPic“Careful what you joke about. Last time I was here with a group, a couple of the girls swore they saw a ghost in the woods.”

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

WTF GAH I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone never saw that plot twist come at me, sooooo this is not Holden's story but Ryan's GAH I am sooooo confused!!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic She walks in beauty, like the night, of cloudless climes and starry skies, and all that's best of dark and bright.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Image and video hosting by TinyPic The man had spotted me a few times and I wondered if he would tell anyone about me? Would they believe him if he did?

A YEAR LATER

She just disappears without a trace, he tries searching for her to no avail, thinks he sees a glimpse of white now and then, and then he sees her at a charity ball. Now he realizes she wasn't just a figment of his imagination.

But things don't add up

“Lily.
Here in San Francisco.
She was real”

This part in the book is where things start getting interesting, Lily's secrets come out in the open.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic We will never be perfect or without flaws, the lives we've been given are not like that, But, Lily, in my heart, you are perfect for me. Perfectly mine.

MY THOUGHTS
What I love about this author is not just her easy flow writing style but that talent she has with each book I've read of hers is her ability to grab the readers attention. As soon as I started the story line just drew me in.
Up until the plot twist I was enjoying this, then that threw me for a sixer, my mind was reeling, then I come to the end and I'm reeling again wondering wtf I just read, don't get me wrong this is a good read a very good read but everything you thought you knew think again..
I was really enjoying this until I reached chapter 26 and then the epilogue and still I'm sitting her 2 hours later not comprehending what I've actually read..

♍ this book is a clusterfuck. the concept behind it is genius, but the execution left me feeling partly flabbergasted and dreadfully confused.

the last thing he expects is to see a beautiful girl in the woods—one wearing a white, lace dress who appears in the moonlight, and leaves no footprints behind. is she a dream? a ghost? a product of his muddled imagination? or something entirely different?

♍ i wanted so bad to love this book especially bcs that one part of the synopsis had me feeling really excited. i went in expecting to get an epic love story out of it that'd leave me breathless.

♍ instead what i got was something entirely different and very far from my imagination. while the romantic in me cheered at the underlying message of this book, the realistic in me had a hard time wrapping its head around everything that's happened.

♍ the book was doing fine until the first plot twist hit the fan. after that, the book continued to shock you with all the twists and turns it had up on its sleeves.

♍ the fact that this book has so many mindblowing plot twists didnt faze me. in fact, i want to praise the author for thinking such a brilliant story and giving us all a mindfuck of experience with this reading.

what upsets me the most is the ambiguity of the story and how it didnt end in full circle. i feel like i've wasted my time bcs i never really got all the clarity that i needed.

♍ i dont know what to think of the characters and their romance. i started believing they were one thing at the beginning of the book, only to later on found out that they were another.

♍ moreover, the romance was a little too instalove-y. while i did enjoy reading about all of the sweet and fun activities the two main characters indulged themselves in, i also couldnt fully connect with them.

overall, reading this book had felt like a spinning cartwheel. it has layers and layers of mysteries that if you dont pay attention to hints and clues since page one, you'll end up feeling confounded by the end of the book.

♍ im not here to discourage anyone from reading this book despite my discontent feeling towards it. with mia sheridan's beautiful storytelling, this book is bound to wow you with its complexity and unconventional unique tale.

♍ it's just that in my case, im already too jaded by the disappointment it left me with that the awe aspects of the story are a little lost on me.

ps: i apologize if my review sounds too vague. im trying to avoid spoilers, and it's tricky to explain what i dont like about the book without getting too much into details.

pps: i keep wondering if i should call 911 to report on these two characters so that they can be admitted to a hospital and get the treatment they deserve OR if i should just leave them be on their own bubble.

Overall Opinion: Wow. This was different! At the 54% mark I was walking around saying "Oh My God" for a few solid minutes and my husband thought I was crazy! I feel like I cannot write my typical review because it will ruin the story. I love spoilers, but I'm glad I went in not knowing anything but the blurb and that some people liked it -- but if you REALLY want to know PM me. I would ask that if you are really interested in this story to not ruin it for yourself and dive right in! This is unusual for me, because like I said before I love spoilers -- but in this case the spoilers don't do the book justice. You need to experience to fully understand what happened. Ok, stepping off my soapbox...I liked it. It wasn't my favorite Mia Sheridan book, but she'll remain one of my favorite authors for sure. I liked that she went outside the box and kept me intruiged. I know some people are saying that they ended the book questioning if what the h and H had was even real, as well as feeling depressed when they ended it -- but I personally didn't get that at all! I just kept reminding myself that in the author's blurb she said "Non-Paranormal, New Adult Contemporary Romance", so just keep that in mind as well ;)

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I did feel like it was slow at first, but I never skimmed and it picked up quickly once they meet.

Sadness level: Moderate/low. I personally didn't tear up, but this does cover some heavy themes.

Heat level: Moderate/low. Not a whole lot of scenes and they were more about emotional connection than the physical act.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Closure: This had a sweet ending IMO, but it definitely isn't a traditional HEA.

How I got it: I paid the $3.99 on Amazon for it.

Safety: Safe with exception

I'm a huge fan of Mia Sheridan. HUGE. I love her writing. She is on my "auto buy" list. I will forever read her future work without even reading the blurb.

So, I was very excited about this upcoming book! I couldn't click on the ARC request fast enough! Gimme, gimme, GIMME!

This book. Well, it definitely blew my mind.

I'm sure my review will be in the minority, so please don't start throwing things at me!

What I loved about this book:
~The writing. Mia can write. I am always impressed with the quality of her work.
~ Unpredictable. You can't say that 2 of Mia Sheridan's books are alike. I love that she is always throwing something new and different.
~ Unique. This book is not like others I've read.

What I didn't like about this book:
~ I have no idea what I just read. My head is spinning. I have an ACTUAL headache after trying to figure out what just happened. I joined the spoiler discussion group and read everything and I'm still trying to piece all of the puzzle pieces together.
~There is a sense of...eeriness in this book. It's bitter sweet. It's angsty. It's not a light read.

When I read, I read to escape real life. I want to be swept away to get a break from real life. And this book swept me away to a place of...confusion. It left me feeling depressed and unsettled. Not exactly where I want to go.

Bottom line:
If you are looking for a premise that is different, read this book!
If you are a fan if Mia Sheridan, read this book!

If you are looking for a light, easy, feel good read, this book is not for you.

I am still a huge Mia Sheridan fan and will forever read all future work.

description There's always someone society chooses not to see. There's always someone who is invisible through no fault of their own.

description

A story about two tormented souls reaching for each other in the darkness. A tale of two haunted individuals trying to flee from the harsh reality of this cruel world. Two tortured hearts struggling to save each other. Two suffered minds hoping for peace. Two distressed spirits desperate to find the light. A love so deep and meaningful. A book you should definitely read.

description

description My Lily, my ghost, {...}, my dream. Only mine.

description

This book will confuse you. It will make you question what is real and what is not. It will mislead you. It will bring on numerous misconceptions. At first, you will be prompted to believe that the book secretly belongs to the "paranormal" genre. You will give up on that brilliant idea pretty quickly though because you will be kept busy making up theories about the story. But no matter how hard you try, you won't guess the conclusion. Yes, even if you get a feeling that you sorted things out and everything seems clear as water. Therefore, do trust me when I say this book will get your wires crossed.

description

description I loved the man who was intense and quiet, gentle and shy, smart and funny.

description

To be honest, an emotional connection between me and Holden was non-existent in the beginning of the book. Everything about him seemed distant, unapproachable, snobbish and strange. I could not understand his behaviour, adopt his way of thinking or fully sympathize with him. However, after a certain section of the book, I understood why Holden seemed so bizarre and abnormal in the beginning. After this particular segment of the story, the main male character gradually started growing on me.

description

description Half my life had been spent feeling like a princess locked in a tower. A damaged princess. One who shouldn't expect to be rescued.

description

In contrast to my initial opinion of Holden, my relationship with Lily was love at first sight. She was a wonderful female character. So gentle. So compassionate. So innocent. So wise. So pure. So beautiful. So unexpected. So mysterious. I loved her.

description

description I was in love with her. Deeply, madly, sweetly in love.

description

I've read a plethora of reviews on this book and numerous people complained about the "insta-love". Well, to tell you the truth, it did not bother me at all and personally, I would not even consider their affection as an "insta-love" now that I am looking back on the story. It felt believable and real then. I can totally see why it was the way it was now.

description

description Perhaps that's what a mental illness really was - an extreme, long-lasting cousin to grief.

description

The subject of mental illness was present in this book but Mia Sheridan dealt with it in a very gentle and smooth way. This graceful delivery of the topic induced so much sympathy for the characters and so much admiration for this talented author.

description

description We will never be perfect or without flaws, the lives we've been given are not like that. But, Lily, in my heart, you are perfect for me. Perfectly mine. And I'm yours.

description

Mia Sheridan's writing was breathtaking. So vivid. So alluring. So lyrical. So magnificent.

In the beginning, the story escalated swiftly. Was it rushed? Maybe. Was it fast-paced? Yes.

The book was divided. It felt as if two stories were put together. As if the first half was completely different from the second one. Was that necessary? After that ending, I should say it was.

Having read this book, I understand why so many people hold dear this author's books.

description

description Happily ever after doesn't mean a lifetime of perfection. {...} It means loving forever, despite all the many reasons it's easier not to.

description

As I mentioned before, this book will confuse you. It will probably take some time for the information to soak in. You will need a day or two to analyze the story and take the most out of it. Praise the sun that the author herself offers to help you with that task. There is a whole Discussion Group on Facebook that may provide you with the answers to your questions.

Here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/15642...

description

description Even if I'm a queen, I'm still difficult to love.

description

This book is so much deeper than it gives the impression of being. You will appreciate it only after putting all the details together. The author does not give you everything ready on a plate. You need to work to appreciate. Thus, I suggest you pay attention to the hints!

description

description Forever. In the darkness, or in the light.

description

This quote synopsizes the whole story, and hence, I thought I would conclude my review with this one. =)

Holden is professional athlete suffering from the death of his best friend. Not being able to recover, he turns to pills to numb the pain, but manages to lose hold of everything. Realizing his ways, he sets out to an isolated mountain lodge to reclaim his life unaware of the path waiting for him.

“I’d rather be someone simple, with a simple life, simple problems.”

Lily is an adventurous woman enjoying her stay in the mountains. During one of her hikes, she trails off and unexpectedly finds a troubled man. As she watches from a distance, Lily learns a little more about him but he isn’t about to just let her hide in the shadows.

“I want you just as you are. I just…I want you.”

As Lily and Holden forge a friendship, it becomes a time of discovery, trust and mutual attraction. Being patient and aware of his demons, Lily gives him the space he needs to heal in hopes that they can be together. For Holden, he clings to the strength and hope Lily gives him which makes him believe they will always find each other no matter how long it takes.

“She didn’t know it, but she had, by giving me a taste of peace, of happiness and comfort, I wanted those things. Craved them with an ache deep in my soul.”

What transpires is a story that focuses on two people battling their own ghosts and how they accept each other unconditionally despite knowing the difficulties that lay ahead. The emotional path these characters take is deeply felt, whether it involves their grief, loneliness, hope, sacrifice, acceptance and love. Told in dual POV, the reality of their lives is weighty and yet the affection they share transcends and leads to incredibly tender and loving moments.

“I wanted to be closer, to absorb all of him, to experience the shimmery feeling flowing through my veins for as long as possible.”

To say this book is full of twists and turn is an understatement. The author’s narrative ability is compelling and compassionate all the while intricately layering a complex story that unfolds at a steady pace. Part of me wanted a different life for Holden and Lily or just simply more; however, I am also comfortable with what they actually have. While reading, I had so many theories about the mysteries surrounding these characters, but it didn’t detract from the heart of the story in any way.

Ultimately, Midnight Lily is a uniquely crafted story that envelops the reader and makes one wander in possibilities. I definitely recommend to those who want to be intrigued and who are open to the unconventional.
