Overall it was a very sweet and beautiful love story.

Likable characters, adorable kid; too insta, but still ok.

Amazing female character. This woman had so much love in her, I was fascinated.

The book has incredible human message. Loved it.

Why not 5 stars? I just couldn't "buy" all twists and turns. Some of them were just implausible.
I know it's fiction, but it's still contemporary romance and I need some connection to the real life.

God, I love my GR friends!
My dearest friend Cyndi wrote an excellent review. Well said. My thoughts exactly.

I would probably reread it someday.

P.S. The cover is not adequate! IMO.
Don't judge this book by its cover - literally!

I finished this, but won't be rating it. I know a lot of my friends loved this and I would have too if Ace's ex had died in childbirth or maybe in an accident. The book was ruined for me when I learned the exes past. This book went past the realm of reality and into ridiculousness. This girl started acting antisocial and committing crimes at the age of 10- she was repeatedly in and out of court. Then at 17 she plans to murder her family. Her plans and supplies are found- it was a serious plan. Instead of jail she gets sent to an institution. Somehow no one in this tiny town where everyone knew everyone's business knew what Margot did. I don't believe that. Someone turned her in - that person never told anyone else? And then Margot disappeared as far as the town knew. I'm supposed to believe there was no gossip? Ace never heard a word about this crazy, unstable girl? Then his mother- who acted as Margot's lawyer her whole life- won't warn Ace when he wants to date her. Attorney/client confidentiality? I call bullsh*t. What mother lets her son get involved with a girl that planned to murder her family? She could have just said " I can't give details, but she is dangerous". It is beyond nuts to me that she didn't step up. Of course Ace remembers Margot as being conceited, bratty, etc. she sounds just like every 24 year old guys type- NOT! He must have only dated her because she was hot and probably crazy in bed. Also, Ace said he started dating Margot when she was 18 and she got sent away when she was 17 so the going rate for time in an institution after planning to kill your family is a whole whopping year! The story of Layne and Ace was sweet, but the backstory of the ex makes everyone look incredibly stupid. And then of course crazy Margot comes back to town to get Ace back. She managed an attack kiss on Ace in front of Layne, tried to burn down a house with Layne in it, and then of course kills herself and was planning on killing Ace but didn't get the chance. After all that I just chuckled my way through the rest of the book!

Overall Opinion: This was super, super sweet. I'm not a huge fan of such sweetness, but I can see where lots of people would love it. I enjoyed the little girl's interactions with both the H and h probably the most. Otherwise, it was a little bit too much cheese for me and just ok. For those that love instalove with heroes and heroines that verbally express their love and true feelings on a regular basis -- this one is for you!

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Layne and Ace's story. They meet when Layne goes on a sabbatical from her law firm after finding her boyfriend of 7 years in bed with her best friend. They don't have the best interaction at first, but soon Ace's 4 year old daughter, River, bonds them with her instant attachment to Layne. Both had been burned in the past, and are not necessarily looking for love -- but they find it in each other. There is some sweet moments, some ex drama, some sexy times...but they get a HEA ending.

POV: This alternated between Layne and Ace's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Ok. There were some time jumps that I had issues with (see instalove below). I also ended up skimming some of the super mushy parts.

Instalove: Yes. I would say it was instalove even though they were friends first, because I didn't get to experience the development of their feelings (which happened during their friendship that had a time jump where it was referred to in past tense).

H rating: 3 stars. Ace. He was pretty darn sweet. He was an awesome dad which was really nice to see, he wasn't afraid of telling the h how he felt, and he was romantic at times.

h rating: 3 stars. Layne. She was really sweet too, and she was coming from a bad situation that she didn't turn bitter about -- so I appreciated that. Loved her instant relationship with River (H's daughter).

Sadness level: Low. No tissues needed.

Push/Pull: Not really

Heat level: Moderate. They have some good chemistry and scenes.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Not really.

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: No

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had a cute jump ahead epilogue with a HEA ending. Up until the epilogue, everything seemed to be cleared up very neatly and tied up with a pretty little bow ;)

How I got it: I paid the $2.99 on Amazon.

Safety: Safe

Beware of Spoilers!

Star Ratings:
Heroine (Layne): 27yrs old – 5/5
Hero (Ace): 30yrs old – 5/5
Plot: 4/5
Grovel: none needed
Cheating: none
HEA: beautiful epilogue with babies!
Triggers: H kisses h right after OW ambushes him with a kiss

Average score: 5/5

Best Lines: so many good ones:
“Around here, you’re a man of your word or you’re no man at all.”

“I’ll never let you fall alone, Layne.”

“I can be myself when I’m with you. You accept me for who I really am,” she whispers back. “I wouldn’t change you for the world.”

Worst Lines: none! (I even loved Bobby’s pathetic begging)

Personal Review:
This was a very fast moving romance between a lawyer who needs a break and a single dad who falls for her. Throw in some OW drama, sweet kids and a comforting home and you have yourself a great romance!

Random Ramblings:
•Yes it was a cliché way to start a romance but I was cheering her on when she started to beat Bobby
•Marcia was funny and it felt like both Marcia and Martha were Layne’s fairy godmothers
•I enjoyed the H and h’s banter in the beginning
•River was a cutie
•The book cover does not in any way fit with the content. This is more like it...

I'm not gonna lie, this is one of my favorite books to date. I simply adored Ace and Layne. River was one of the sweetest little girls ever! Their story was so sweet and loving. I really felt for Layne when she found her long term boyfriend with her even longer term best friend. Little did she know it was the best thing to ever happen to her. She and Ace got off to a bumpy start but that was quickly rectified and they remained strong through the rest of the story. This is romance to me. This couple acted mature and they communicated with each other. It was refreshing. No cheating whatsoever. The ex's made appearances and caused trouble but they never caused problems with the relationship. These two remained strong. Great side characters. I'm hoping for more stories for them. ..Justin and Lily...even Zoe. If you want a sweet, low angst read that the couple remains strong and true, this is it.

I really enjoyed this sweet, easy read! What a refreshing change to read about two adults that behave like adults and treat each other with respect and total honesty. And they actually talked to each other, no jumping to conclusions or miscommunication. I love that the author kept things real with no ridiculous drama added for drama's sake, yet managed to throw in a couple of twists that worked to keep me hooked right to the end.

Throw in that Ace is a hottie and a single parent, River is the sweetest little kiddo ever and a small, close knit community that feels like one big family. A fab epilogue left me totally in my happy place.

The author introduced other characters that I'm hoping will get their books - I'm looking at you Justin and Lily!

I’m sitting here with a goofy smile on my face feeling all kinds of warm and fuzzies.

THIS is what a contemporary romance novel should be.

Adult characters. Adult situations. Beautiful, modern love.

Plenty long enough to present each character fully and tell the story from start to finish.

I want more from A.D. Justice!

My review:

This book had a lot of the things I LOVE in a single parent romance - which is one of my favorite genre's! The hero wasn't out whoring around, he didn't play any games in going after what he wanted, there were many scenes with his adorable little girl, it had a great HEA with the elements that I like and I did enjoy all of the MC's.

There were a few reasons why I rated this right under 5 stars. There were some events that took place in this book that I felt just were TOO OTT. Like Zoe and her relationship with Layne and what ends up happening towards the end and Ace's mom. I'm sorry but

Overall a very enjoyable book!

The one thing I absolutely loved about this book was the realness of it.  The main characters, Ace and Layne, were like any of us....real!  They were adults with adult situations and adult conversation.  They were completely honest with each other,  well mostly honest.  There may have been a couple things left out or maybe it was an unconscious omission, but there was one thing that I did not see coming in the end, and that was a surprise!

Layne has been betrayed by her longtime boyfriend and is having a hard time moving forward with her life and her career as an attorney.  Her boss sends her to Georgia to stay at her cabin to unwind and begin to live again.  Lucky, lucky Layne!  Because her neighbor is none other than Ace Sharp (what a great name!) and their initial meeting was outstanding!  I loved these two together, and what made it so much better was River!!  She stole my heart, just like she stole Layne's!

Great storyline and I really enjoyed it!  Some angst and drama....and a bit of a small twist at the end, but I was literally grinning like an idiot during the time Ace and Layne were getting to know each other!  So great, so sweet, so Ace!!!! Yeah, hello, I gotta get me some Ace!!! LOL!!!!

I read this book in less than 24 hours and in between not reading it, all I could think about was getting back to it!  Shout out to Fabi for another great recommendation!

I have to mention I've read books before regarding equine therapy and I can't tell you how that type of therapy impresses me so much!  It is an amazing thing!

Intent is the first book by A.D. Justice that I read.

I liked the writing style and the way the story was told. This is not a “light” romance read but I also would not call it heavy – So I guess it’s well balanced – what I did not expect was the slight suspense in the story.

And I was just enough annoyed by the “disturbing” persons in the story to make those parts feel real. There also were some family relationships that I would have never guessed, so I feel the author did well there too

The character development was great. Layne is introduced just strong enough to be (no spoilers #laughing) and Ace is … well no spoiler if I say – there will be a lot of women dreaming about that guy … and River … oh god she is just adorable and has everyone wrapped around her little finger..

I hope others will enjoy this rollercoaster ride as much as I did …

***5 Cranky stars***
Layne Elliot walks in on her worst nightmare leaving her broken and scarred. Life as she knew it was over the second she opened that door. Picking up the pieces wasn't working so she decides to take a sabbatical for the summer in Oak Grove.

Ace Sharp is a man's man that every woman dreams of. He's a single daddy to River and lives next to Layne's vacation rental.
Thank goodness that first impressions didn't stick in this story because the heat is off the charts between these two who clash at first sight.

From page one I was sucked in. AD Justice is a born storyteller that writes unforgettable characters who you love instantly. She gives us love, friendship, stalkers and suspense all wrapped up in this amazing book. This Cranky reviewer is a fan for life and recommends this book to everyone.

Layne, after a devastating blow to her self-esteem is sent by her boss to a small town to recover and rediscover herself. She meets Ace, a single father, in a not so nice way. While sparks fly between the two, they develop a friendship that turns into more pushed along by Ace's adorable daughter, River.

Wow how I loved this book! It was so sweet and my heart was just melting. I have to say, while Ace was a perfect hero, Layne stole my heart. I don't find many heroines that I adore but Layne was one of the best I have read in a long time. I loved how we get to see Layne grow as a person and come out of her funk and realize she's really not been living until she meets Ace, River and eventually Zoe. She opened her heart to everyone she met. I wanted her to get a HEA so bad and was rooting for her all the way.

I love how as a couple, they communicated and talked things through. There wasn't any unnecessary drama relationship wise. There was drama, just not between the two. Their love and faith in each other never wavered.

The epilogue brought me to tears and I was so happy to see everyone get a HEA. This book was nearly damn perfect in my eyes. Now, I'm hoping we'll get to read about Lily and Justin and maybe Zoe finding her barn owl.

WOW...this book was SO good!

This was one of my favorite types of romance book. The characters although faced with issues acted in a mature fashion instead of overly dramatic teenagers. No push or pull or running away. They actually COMMUNICATED, fancy that huh? River was ADORABLE, I just love kids in romance books, especially when they come connected to hot, sweet and honest single fathers. Nothing sexier than that. On top of all that goodness, we get a fabulous epilogue that had me crying like a baby!

Thank you Nicole for enlightening us on this book. I am SO glad I didn't give it a pass.

Side Note: The cover of this book does NOT represent this book at all. It's downright odd if you ask me! It makes no difference to the story one way or the other, but it does give a wrong impression about the hero IMO.

RECENSIONE QUI: https://thereadingslove.blogspot.com/...

description

Intent is a sweet and sexy read. The highlight of this book is the romance between Ace and Layne. It is really beautiful. It is nice to have a couple that talked through their issues and never let any drama come between them. I am definitely looking forward to reading more books by this author and really hope she writes Justin's and Lily's story. Recommend if you are looking for a low angst read with a super sweet romance.

Holy crap Ace Sharp.... Hot, sexy, funny, sarcastic, and a daddy ???? Does it get any better? Intent is one long true love romance. From start to finish you can't help but to fall hard for Ace. Families come in many different ways, and Intent proves that family bonds run deep. Besides the sweet, heartwarming moments A.D. Justice adds the perfect amount of steam and suspense to keep you turning the pages as quickly as your eyes can devour the words. I've read every one of A.D.'s books, but Intent has become my favorite. #AceisAMs

Ace Sharp, you have completely stolen my heart!! He's not just sexy and oh so yummy, but he has quite the attitude and he's a dad. Boy, if that didn't just seal the deal right there I don't know what would. Then there is Layne who honestly is just as lovable as Ace. There is just something about her that screamed "this woman is the real deal" and made me love her even more. This whole story is about true love. You know the "I can't live and breathe without you" kind of love. And by now you are thinking this is just a predictable love story, but I can assure you it is anything but. AD Justice has a way of writing a story that is so far from predictable even if you think going in that it will be. You will think you know what is going to happen, but 99% of the time you will be wrong. This book has it all. From the "awwwww that was so sweet," to the "what the heck just happen" and most definitely the "whew I need a cold shower" moments. AD Justice is one of my absolute favorite authors. She is the author that I stalk to find out what is next and one that I preorder as soon as I can just to make sure I get the book as soon as it's available and even more than that, she is the author who's books I read over and over again because they are just that good!! I'm seriously in love with Ace and have no doubt you will be too!! This book deserves way more than just 5 AMAZEBALLS stars!!

An absolutely spectacular book!! Talk about an emotional rollercoaster ride!! There was so many ups & downs and twists & turns. I finished this book in one sitting because I found it impossible to put down. A very touching story of heartbreak, sacrifice, survival and unconditional love. Layne and Ace are such an adorable couple that have overcome so much to get to where they are. We can all hope to one day find our own barn owl.

Awww this was so beautiful. Layne was a wonderful heroine she was so generous with her love and yet strong when she needed to be. I think Layne is def one of my favourite heroine so even though I loved Ace it was Layne who made the story for me. Loved the epilogue too. Great read 3-4* for me

Ciao readers,
Buona lettura.

There are so many wonderful books within this genre that are positively gut-wrenching, soul-shredding, tear-jerking reads, ones that leave the reader curled up in the fetal position, sobbing and nursing one heck of a book hangover once they’ve finished reading. Intent by AD Justice is not that kind of book. Easy, peasy, nice and breezy is how I’d describe this book. And you know what? That’s OK. Sometimes readers just need a break from all the angst, the heaviness and the drama, and you’ll get that here.

“That single dash mark on the test strip has single-handedly dashed my hopes and dreams too often.”

Layne Elliot has been with her boyfriend, Bobby, for seven years; he was her first everything. She’s an attorney on the upswing of her career, but what she really wants is the American dream: husband, 2.5 kids and a white, picket-fence ringed house in the ‘burbs. Bobby, however, doesn’t quite share this dream, but he ultimately gives in a little, and they strike a deal that at least gives Layne one slice of her American dream pie. As it turns out, though, it wasn’t that blasted dash mark on the test strip that wound up dashing Layne’s hopes and dreams after all.

“Should I allow the pain from my split…to rob me of my happiness? To taint the rest of my life?”

A devastating betrayal has Layne’s world crashing down around her, and she slips into a robotic depression. Her boss and mentor, who is more like a mother figure to Layne, is worried and forces her to take a much needed sabbatical. Layne heads to the woman’s summer home in a small, mountain town to escape the reminders of her failed relationship and to start the healing of her tattered heart. Little did she know that leaving behind everything she thought she had would lead her to finding all that she ever really wanted.

“Where have you been all my life?”

Ace Sharp, an equine therapist and single father, has learned the hard way that relationships and love aren’t easy. The only good thing that came out of the nightmare that was his relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Margot, was his four-year-old daughter, River. He hasn’t opened his heart to anyone but River since that relationship ended, and he doesn’t think he can or will.

“I know you’ve been hurt…”

While their initial encounter wasn’t even close to love at first sight, when Ace learns what Layne did for River, his opinion of her dramatically changes. River has captured Layne’s heart, and through her, Ace and Layne shake off their less than pleasant first meeting and forge a tentative friendship. The more time they spend together – and River is seeing to it that they spend a lot of time together – the more they actually like each other and enjoy each other’s company. With a friendship between the two of them solidified, it becomes harder for them to deny their deepening feelings for one another, their attraction to each other or their chemistry together.

“…tell me something, Layne. Are you willing to take a chance on me?”

Giving into the feelings and desire that they share, Ace and Layne shake off the chains of their past experiences and tumble head-first into a relationship neither saw coming but both are unable to fight. Both both have substantial baggage of the former partner variety, and neither of those two people are quite so willing to let go, though. Will hearing Bobby out give Layne the closure that she needs to move on or will he once again send her reeling? Will Margot’s alarming activities drive them apart or push them closer together?

“All the wrongs and hurts fade to black when I’m with him…”

This couple, both having been dealt terrible hands in the relationship game, could have easily held tight to their pasts letting it overshadow the love building between them. In a refreshing change of place, they instead held tight to each other, and they were rewarded with a soul-deep, once-in-a-lifetime, true love rooted in friendship, in trust, in mutual respect and simmering with white hot chemistry. I wanted so much for them to have an easy road with each other while they worked together to hold the outside forces at bay, and they did.

“Will you catch me?”
“I’ll never let you fall alone, Layne.”

It’s not often that I get to read a story where the relationship is the easy part and the external factors are the problem. What was happening around these two could have easily made this relationship much harder, but this couple recognized what they had with each other and they simply did not let outside factors in. They stood strong together, they held on to each other, they allowed trust to form, and they instead focused their energy on growing their relationship while handling these outside influences as a united front.

“We both know there’s no going back, no backing out, and no changing our minds. We’re in this together, through thick and thin, for better or for worse.”

This was such a sweet and sexy story. It was well written and developed, and it was a smile-plastered-on-my-face, pleasure to read. There is definitely something to be said about a story where the budding relationship and the main character couple is the easy part. If you’re in need of something upbeat and a bit easy, especially after reading a story that left you gutted and devastated, A.D. Justice’s Intent is exactly what you need to soothe your ravaged soul. 4 smooches from me!

Excerpt:

Layne

The silky smooth feel of his tongue gliding across mine sends shivers down my spine. His intrinsic taste is every bit as intoxicating as that bottle of strawberry wine, except he’s much more addictive. When his calloused fingers glide across my cheek, a need greater than I’ve ever known consumes me and makes me want to beg for him to touch me everywhere.

I am safe and secure under the weight of his body, and his lips and tongue move with expert precision and determination. Even when I try to rush him and greedily take more, he won’t allow it. He keeps complete control, drawing out the pleasure, leaving me wanting—no, needing—more. My next breath is dependent upon his kiss, his touch, his taste. What I was intent would never happen again is happening right before me, but I can’t willfully stop this any more than I can willfully stop my heart from beating.

He shifts his weight and settles his hips between my legs. The sudden friction against my clit causes an intense moan to escape from my throat. His responding growl only amplifies the fire that is about to combust between us. His hips flex and his erection slides across me. My fingers curl into his shirt, my nails scrape across his skin, and my neck arches in response. Ace’s lips move down to my exposed neck as he kisses, licks, and nips at the erogenous area.

“You taste good everywhere,” he murmurs. “Your lips, your tongue, your neck. I can’t help but wonder what you taste like in other places.”

His hands find their way under my shirt, and he slowly pushes it up as he slides down. His fingers are sprawled out across my abdomen, heating my core from his mere touch. When the stubble from his faded beard scrapes across my stomach, my hands instinctively jerk to his head and my fingers glide through his light brown hair. He pulls my skin through his teeth, sucking it into his mouth, and then laving the area with his warm tongue.

“Mmm, the more I taste you, the better it gets,” he hums against my skin.

He lifts his eyes to look at me. Looking for permission? He has it, whatever he wants to do to me. Town gossip be damned. I don’t care what they think of me, how easy they think I am, or how jealous they are that he’s here with me. Not one of them has walked in my shoes, has felt what I’ve felt, or has been hurt in the way that I’ve been hurt—because none of them is me.

“Ace,” I beg with one word. A one-syllable, one-word plea.

This was genius...completely genius!!

This story was case in point of us as readers sometimes going for a book based on the cover and the summary provided.

The cover - definitely not our H.
The summary - not as mysterious as we anticipate.

And that my friends, is what I call GENIUS!! Why? Because you go into the story thinking one thing, realize it's not even close and end up loving the s*** out of it!!

Layne Elliot - a woman who wants nothing more than the fairy tale life of marriage, children and a happily ever after had it all planned out. She depended on her boyfriend, Bobby to help her create these dreams, even if she had to give up a few in exchange for another.

Layne never imagined it would be a pipe dream in the end - where she walks in her boyfriend of seven years going to town with her best friend.

And to pour salt into the wound - her now ex-best friend announces that she is not only in love with Layne's now ex-boyfriend, but

You can't help but feel the whirl of emotions that Layne goes through when this bomb drops.

Layne enters a dark, depressing place which goes unnoticed by her boss, Marcia. Marcia has an idea by shipping Layne off to her beach house to get away from New York for a while. Reluctantly, Layne accepts hoping to find herself while taking some time away.

Ace Sharp - Single dad, raising his four year old on his own, never expected to love again after the betrayals he's dealt with in his life. He vowed to only love only one woman - and his love belonged to his daughter, River and his sister, Lily.

Layne and Ace's meeting is full of cosmic, panty melting dislike at first. He thinks she's a b*tch, she lets him know he's an assh*le.

What Ace later learns is that this b*tch, that really catches his attention from the beginning, saved his daughters life. They decide to be cordial from then on and the rest is HISTORYYYYYYYYYYYY!!

I can give you so many magnificent details in my review, but honestly, I need you to read this for yourself.

Come fall in love...lust...feel the feels!!

I loved Layne from the beginning of the book to the very last page. Ace - woooooooooooo - that man is just raw, honest sexiness. And him being a single dad to boot? Hot damn!!

The storyline is enticing, draws you in immediately and honestly, I read this in one day. Without interruptions, pretty sure you can sucked up in one sitting.

Read it. Read it. READ IT!!!
