South Australians Cory Gregson and George Horlin-Smith are among several Geelong players pushing for selection ahead of Friday night’s huge clash with the Crows at Adelaide Oval.

Horlin-Smith had 25 disposals at 80 per cent efficiency in Geelong’s VFL clash with Essendon last weekend as the 23-year-old hunts his first senior game of the season.

The tough midfielder, who last played at AFL level in Geelong’s Round 23 win over the Crows last year, won a team-high 12 contested possessions, had seven clearances and kicked two goals in a complete performance.

Former Glenelg junior Gregson also impressed in his first VFL outing for Geelong. He collected 16 possessions, had six inside 50ms and laid five tackles and could be a like-for-like replacement if Lincoln McCarthy fails to overcome an ankle concern.

Billie Smedts is another who could be called upon by Cats coach Chris Scott. The 23-year-old had 21 possessions, six inside 50ms and laid three tackles to be named among his side’s best.

Jed Bews responded strongly after he was omitted from the senior team last round with 25 disposals and six rebound 50ms.

Rebounding defender Jake Kolodjashnij served as Geelong’s senior emergency and didn’t play at VFL level last weekend.
