GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- An Ashwaubenon man made his initial court appearance Thursday afternoon, accused of two deadly stabbings this week in Hobart.

Jacob Cayer, 26, hasn't been charged in the murders, but is being held on a $5 million cash bond.

Police say just after 8 p.m. Tuesday, they found 25-year-old Sabrina Teague stabbed to death in her backyard. Teague is Cayer's ex-girlfriend. Police say they found Teague's mother, 63-year-old Heesun 'Sunny' Teague, dead in the family's bathroom. Joel Kennedy was also stabbed in the chest and arms, but is expected to survive.

Police say a K-9 unit found Cayer in the woods behind the home. Cayer was in a wheelchair for his court appearance.

"There is extreme violence that is outlined in here as well as allegations of mental instability," said David Lasee, Brown County's district attorney.

Lasee outlined Cayer's past in court. Cayer was out on bond with two open cases, one of them domestic violence related involving a different victim. He has also been convicted of violent domestic crimes in the past.

"Frankly I think he represents a significant, extreme public safety risk if he were allowed to be released at this point," said Lasee.

Two days after the crime, the state crime lab remains at the home in Hobart. That is the reason the state asked for more time before another court appearance. However, Cayer's public defender requested another court date be sooner rather than later.

"I have serious concerns about Jacob's mental health at this point," said Carrie LaPlant, a public defender representing Cayer. "My concern is setting things out that long may only deteriorate the situation."

Cayer is scheduled to be back in court a week from Friday.

Lasee says he might not be ready to file charges by the next court appearance. He says the crime lab will likely need one more day to collect evidence, which will then take time to process.
