WSU practice notes: Treshon Broughton arrives
Washington State had a visitor on Tuesday. Treshon Broughton, a highly regarded cornerback recruit, was watching from the sidelines. I wrote about Broughton before he signed in February. You can read that article here. Broughton is a talented player that is expected to compete for a starting role, although it may take him a while to get settled because he has yet to practice. Rather than participate in the Cougars' preseason camp in Lewiston, Broughton was finishing up some schoolwork at Riverside City College.

I'll keep you updated on Broughton's progress in practice. Speaking of practice, here are today's highlights:
-- C.J. Dimry, T.J. Fehoko, Matt Abramo, Logan Tago, Charleston White, Tyler Baker and Suli Hameed were all limited to some degree.
-- Darrien Molton is still running with the ones ahead of Marcellus Pippins at one cornerback spot. It's pretty clear the true freshman has impressed the coaches and will play a lot this season.
-- Parker Kirkland played at safety in practice today, running mostly with the second unit. In the early portion of practice, Calvin Green also got reps with the second team at safety.
-- The Cougars did a lot of scout-team work today, with the regular contributors obviously having a large advantage over the scouts. For example, Isaac Dotson made a one-handed interception off Connor Ennis from about 10-feet away.
-- It was very evident during the WR vs. DB drill how much respect the defensive backs have for Robert Lewis' speed. The defensive back matched up with Lewis consistently gave him the widest cushion of any player, making it almost impossible to stop a completion. Tavares Martin Jr. had a nice play in the drill, blowing past Pat Porter on a vertical route and then slide in the end zone to adjust to the slightly underthrown pass and make the catch.
-- Peyton Bender struggled during the skeleton drill, having a pass nearly intercepted by Paris Taylor and getting passes broken up by Dotson and Molton. He also overthrew a wide open Daniel Lilienthal on what should have been a touchdown pass. But Bender looked much sharper during the team period. Luke Falk was pretty solid throughout practice, throwing a 50-yard bomb to Gabe Marks and finding Martin Jr. for a touchdown pass.
-- The kick returners today were Martin Jr. Kyrin Priester, Keith Harrington and Isaiah Davis. Brett Schafer and Mitchell Cox handled the kickoffs. Schafer was pretty short with this kicks but Cox did all right.
