About the author

M.E. Montgomery

M.E. Montgomery can’t remember a time she hasn’t had at least one book on the go to read. After years of falling headfirst into the lives and loves of other author’s characters, M.E. decided to write her own. She enjoys creating the kind of realistic storybook friends you wish you could actually meet, and sometimes she finds herself wondering what those characters are up to once she’s delivered their happily ever after.
She’s married to her best friend and has four children and two Boxer dogs. They live wherever the Navy sends her husband, usually the East coast of the U.S., but also once in Japan.
Whenever she’s not writing or substitute teaching, she often ponders the riddle of how the kitchen sink appears to automatically refill with dirty dishes as soon as her back is turned. On the occasions it stays empty, you can find her with a glass of wine or Scotch outside at their fireplace or curled up inside with a book, binge watching TV, or chatting with readers.

Leaving me a quivering puddle of goo from book one, M.E. Montgomery had me from the start for book two. True North continues the tale of Alex and Kayla as their relationship continues to blossom in spite of the obstacles from the past that have left festering wounds. Together they are stronger than apart, and Alex is a rock, a one-of-a-kind man that deals with his own past as well as Kayla’s. In a perfect world, the past remains where it belongs, but for this couple, the ghosts that belong buried come back to haunt them both. Enough for any couple to withstand, but with love and commitment, they forge ahead only to find that what is in their future may be even more devastating as a twisted plot unfolds that threatens the life they have planned together.

M.E. Montgomery leads us down a dark path filled with lurking shadows, threats and heartbreak as their very lives are put in danger, their character is sullied and those who wish them harm will stop at nothing to attain their goals. Witness the shock of their discoveries, the results of the actions of evil and how this beautiful love story almost came crashing down in shards.

Prepare to have your heart in throat, your nerves taut and fraying, because the events that transpire will leave you raged and raw. Ahh, but this is M.E. Montgomery bringing true depth to her love story and enforcing the magic between two amazing characters through the good times and the very, very bad. Do Alex and Kayla have what it takes to venture forward or will they pull back for the sake of the ones they love? Once again, M.E. Montgomery plays to our hearts with unforgettable characters, amazing dialogue and twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat, either white-knuckling your fists or pumping them high in the air.

When an author can cause the reader to completely lose all sense of reality and to live each step of the way with the characters, they have done their job and done it well! This is powerful writing that was not rushed, this is intriguing romance at its best.

I received this copy from M.E. Montgomery in exchange for my honest review.

Praying For A HEA . . .

This was a must read after the first book in this Polaris series, So DO NOT read this novel with out reading the first book. I loved the first novel and this was a great sequel, but this went into more suspense-mystery romance than just romance. It was still a great read but a reader will find the direction of the novel has gone from deep emotional healing to physical healing and mystery/crime solving.

On the cusp of a HEA, Alex gets a heartbreaking call saying Mikalya was hurt while trying to stop Aiden's almost abduction. His world is almost destroyed when he realizes the woman he loves beyond his life could have been killed. The fact that her recovery takes too long for loved ones comfort, which makes the situation more tense. Mikayla fights to return to the land of living and begins to heal physically, mentally and emotionally. Though the healing is only half the problem as it becomes clear that the abduction was not as random as they had hoped. Alex, Mikayla and some of their past and present friends help them begin to dig into the mystery of who tried to hurt their family and why. Soon the bigger question becomes can they figure it all out in time before its too late and someone is lost for good.

Overall, Loved it! Again, I had to dig into this book immediately after reading book 1 since it left me on such an emotionally precipice. Readers get to have a lot more of Alex's point of view in this story and it's great because you truly get to see how much he adore Kayla. The man is dang near perfect! Even when he got all over bearing about Kayla leaving the house without texting him every 10 mins I wanted to love him, because he was scared about losing her. Oh this beautiful Valentine's day scene that is pure romance, *sigh, fictionally I'm super jealous of Kayla. This book went into a lot of mystery with asking who was after them but in the end I'm a bit happy it stretched over two books if only so I could have more of Kayla and Alex, oh and Aiden, that kid is just too cute. Oh and just wait till the prologue, I'm not spoiling anything buuut I'm happy.

Picking up where I left off... And where the author left off.... HOLY TWISTS ANS TURNS AND OMG I LOVE THIS BOOK AND CANT WAIT TO REREAD BECAUSE IT WAS JUST THAT DAMN GOOD! The author did it again.... Pulled me in and refused to let me go. But I'm not complaining! I was all too happy to have read this book. It's a bit darker than the first book but oh so well written. I literally ate it up. Alex and Kayla... They are it. But we throw some suspense into this and some serious twists and turns and yes, you have no clue who did what and why... But oh are we glad that this was written. I had a whole new respect for the pure genius that is ME Montgomery!! While it's the second book in this series you'd never guess she was a new author! Gah! I really just can't even write a review because I want to gush about everything!! I'll leave you with this..... Once you read this book, message the author and tell her what a hell of a job she did with this!!

WOW! This was an emotional read with some unexpected twists! Please note, you need to read book 1 in this series first. This book picked up where book one left off, Alex, thinking he has his happy ending is dealing with the aftermath of an attempted kidnapping of Aiden and Kayla's injury. The love that Alex and Kayla share is truly inspiring and so powerful. The author does an amazing job conveying their thoughts and feelings through the words in this story. Their fight for their happily ever after is tested time and time again, yet their love for one another provides them with the guidance to keep fighting and moving forward. The twists in this story are ones I never saw coming but added so much to the story. The epilogue of this book really got. It is told from Aiden's point of view and revolves around something that occurs earlier in the book. Tears flooded my eyes as I read this epilogue and the last few sentences were amazing. Highly recommend this series!

Wow, I loved book 1 in the series and book 2 was just as good. Picking up where the first book left off, Alex and Kayla certainly don't have it easy, someone is trying to hurt them and they have no idea who it is. They are taken on an emotional roller coaster and as a reader it feels as though I'm right there with them. The love they have for each is strong enough to survive whatever is thrown at them as long as they have each other and their family. This is a brilliant book full of twists that you would not see coming. It is well written and hard to believe that ME Montgomery is a new author!!!

Loved the ending and would recommend this series to anyone.

True North (Northstar Duet Part 2) - The Polaris Series #2 - Review

Couple: Kayla & Alex

Author: M.E. Montgomery

Tropes: single dad, tragic past, insta-lust, teacher-parent, sweet roamcen, small town

Review: Grab the tissues! Book 2 starts right were we end in book 1 and this time we get to read from Alex’s POV. The first part of this book is tear-jerking. After having so much loss, Alex once again has to face the chance he will lose someone he loves.

The emotion and plot twists in the conclusion of this duet are breathtaking. Kayla recovers from her attack and Alex begins to become overprotective until she breaks and tells him to stop. We get to meet Chris again, Kayla’s brother, and see how much he has taken to Aiden and we also get to read how devoted Alex is to Kayla.

Kayla in this book embodies a strong woman. She returns home to heal but quickly gathers herself to make sure Aiden is ok after the attack and strengthens herself for everyone. I loved reading her resilience and just how much backbone she had.

The book has a lot more heat than book 1 and we also have a lot more intensity. Both characters are forced to face parts of their pasts that made them who they are and secrets are revealed that created tension between them. Book 2 has Kayla’s ex-boyfriend returning to the scene to make amends and explain his abrupt break-up too.

This book centers around finding out who attacked Kayla and tying up all the moving pieces and threats to Aiden, Alex and Kayla. Many betrayals and secrets come to light that involve Aiden’s father and grandparents and well as outside people who come together to help prevent another attack. We get to see the culprit caught and resolution at the end as well.

I recommend this book for anyone who loves a sweet romance with spice and mystery.

Rating: 100+, this was an achingly beautiful read that makes you want to read it again and again!

As this book begins Kayla is in the hospital after a kidnapping attempt. The story of Alex and Kayla takes off from where the first book in this series left off. I loved that book as it was a romantic suspense written so that the characters become real and the suspense and cliffhanger make you want this second book immediately. I didn't enjoy this one quite as much. I love the characters still, the suspense builds while also throwing in lots of twists and turns. There are some places where the dialogue gets a little corny.
There were lots of writing mistakes in this one such as Jake's name being used in a place where it was obviously supposed to be talking about Ryan. Then the sentences where words were jumbled (someone is sitting up at a bar and the sentence says something like "sitting at up the bar"). Maybe this feels nit picky but errors like this bring me out of the story when I was previously reading a page turner. Most noticeably the epilogue from Aiden's point of view is labeled "12 months later". I am sure the author meant 12 years later because Aiden is getting ready to graduate high school while in the book he is in elementary school. This proves to me that self published books have a problem with insufficient editing.
I am looking forward to further books in the series which I believe are companions to this storyline. Tyler and Jen's story should be interesting.

Highly recommended. Truly a 5-star read!
NB: This is Part 2 of the story started in North Star. You WILL need to read North Star first!
The story picks up right where North Star leaves off as we find out the news Tyler is delivering to Alex. While the first book was straight love story, and this certainly continues that; this volume ups the ante on drama. Oh, the twists and turns! Just when you think you can take a breath something else hits them from out of left field. I loved that the author kept me fully engaged and flipping the pages to see how this was all going to turn out. The continued character development and the emotional rollercoaster will suck you right in.
I highly recommend The North Star Duet, truly a 5-star read!

This is not a standalone book. You should read North Star (Polaris Series #1) first. This book picks up after the suspenseful conclusion of book one. This story was fast paced, with more depth into characters from book one. It will hold your attention, so start it when you have reading time.

Alex and Kayla are already deeply in love, and while their love for each other, and little Aiden, shines through in the story, this book turns to solving a couple mysteries and suspense with danger. I can't say a lot about it without giving away plot twists. It does finish their happily ever after. There is even a fun glimpse into the future in the epilogue.

I couldn't wait to dive into this one because book 1 left me needing more of this story. You must read them in order or you will be missing half the story.
I love these characters and I love how everyone fit together but the puzzle pieces weren't obvious until it was all reveled.
I loved that the epilogue skipped to where it did because that helped make it all fit together. It tied off all the loose ends.

North Star is a debut novel and M.E. Montgomery is a new author? I'm not sure I got that right. The way this is written, it is just, simply, honestly, beautiful.

Life isn't totally happy. Death is inevitable and causes a lot of pain for those who are left behind. However, getting over that death (very different from dealing with loss) is, in a way, helping and healing others who've been affected by that same kind of pain. This is what Mikayla and Alex share - the loss of people they love - and what brought them together.

Kayla has been hurt more times that she cares to remember. Apart from a recent devastating loss, she also seems to be a total loser in the love department with boyfriend after boyfriend putting her down until she completely loses confidence in herself. While she isn't bitter, in fact it's made her more understanding and compassionate, she is very insecure when it comes to men showing any interest in her. So it's quite natural when she's unsure of what Alex finds interesting in her.

Alex is one of those men who have had a charmed life; that is, until the day he lost his twin sister and best friend. The only glimmer of light he had left was their son, Aiden. Alex dedicates himself to becoming a substitute father for his nephew despite the overwhelming pain he himself carries. But, just seeing happiness on the little boy's face makes all his sacrifice worth it.

Alex and Kayla are drawn together, and their friends notice it, too. With encouragement from both sides, they slowly piece a relationship together with Aiden at the center. While they can and do heal each other, a part of Aiden's past tries to blow them apart. Are they both stronger now that they can build their family despite the pressures?

These characters are so real, they tug at your heart and pull you into the book. I hurt for Kayla and her insecurities, some of them more familiar than I wanted to admit. Alex is such a generous soul, completely giving and selfless, thinking of everyone before himself. And Aiden! He is such a beautiful boy full of joy and laughter. You hope they work together as the family they should be.

There are so many unexpected twists to this story that don't stop until the very cliffhanger ending. I know it's the first part of a series but could there be a less tension-filled non-conclusion than that? There were more questions raised than answered in the last two chapters which makes it a perfect hook for True North, the next installment. And maybe there will be something about Tyler and Jen? Please?

Book two starts out with Alex's side of the flashback to the bar, but then jumps forward to Kayla being taken away from him, it must have been a dream after the accident. What happened to Kayla and Aiden? When Kayla finally wakes up in the hospital, does she remember what happened? How she got there? What happens when she does remember? Who is behind the attempted kidnapping and attack? Who is this man that has been arrested for the attempt? Who hired him? Who is behind it all? Why does Ryan, Kayla's ex come back into her life? What is he doing there? Why does Kayla seem to keep seeing him around out of the corner of her eyes, but then never able to find him when she tries to look after she thinks she's seen him? This book is definitely a mystery in hiding, but a contemporary romance for sure. What happens on Valentine's Day? Makes me wish that I had a man in my life, especially one as romantic as Alex is. This book also has suspense written into it throughout this whole book. The things you 'think' are going on are and are not what you are thinking. There are things going on that you never would have thought would be going on. When Kayla and Aiden are abducted, yes, truly abducted this time, what proof is sent to Alex? How are they found/ What happens? Who is behind it, I'll tell you it wasn't who i thought it was! The person that helps find where they are blew me away. Definitely a book worth reading and I look forward to #3 now.

After reading *North Star*, I couldn't wait to read this sequel. I was not disappointed; it was even better than I expected. Truly, I wasn't expecting the level of suspense that was sprinkled throughout this story. (I'm not about to give even a tiny spoiler.) I don't usually read suspense stories, but this one sat very well with me. Of course, the romance begun in Book 1 is continued, and just as enthralling and fulfilling. Other relationships evolve. (I love these characters!) Main and secondary characters are very well developed and quite memorable. I hope I'm correct that there will be additional books in this series (stand-alone or not) that will pick up on these characters. There are many that are worthy of a novel telling their individual stories.

M. E. Montgomery is a great writer of both romance and suspense. The story unfolds perfectly, even though there is so much interwoven throughout the plot. Surprises are saved for just the right time. Clever and intricate plot lines. Great pacing.

Could use a bit of proofreading -- repeated or missing words, incorrect possessive pronouns, that kind of thing.

*I was given a copy of this book as a gift from Stephanie's Book Reports in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in the Polaris series, and it is the continuation of Alex and Kayla's story.

Alex and Kayla have found a once in a lifetime love. Despite past hurts and insecurities, they have each decided to embrace the future and build a family together. However, truths are revealed that leave them filled with doubts and questions. While they are both determined to stay on course towards their happily ever after, danger and deceit threaten to destroy everything that they have worked so hard to build. Will love and determination be enough to conquer all?

OMG! This book is just as good as the first one! It is packed full of twists and turns. Don't even bother trying to guess what will happen next because you will never in a million years figure it out! If you are looking for a story that will pull you in from the very beginning, you should give this book (and series) a try! Great job, ME Montgomery!

This book leaves off right where North Star left off. (Which I love) I was pulled into this book from the start. I couldn't stop reading it. I'm glad there were answers to the questions that were left from the 1st book in the series. This book was so well written and I felt. The way it was written you felt the real life struggles that the characters had and were relatable. Alex and Kayla each had their own characteristics that made them unique. You will fall in love with both of them and their friends in a heartbeat without even thinking about it. There are many changes in the book that will have you turning the page quickly. Highly recommend anything written by M.E. Montgomery. I can't wait to see what she does next. Lindsey, Reviewer for MNP.

You know when you come across a wonderful book series that is so good that you can reread it several times because it is just that good. This is definitely one of those series. M.E. Montgomery hit it out of the park with The Polairs Series.

Book 2 of the series: True North continues Alex and Kayla's tale right where North Star ended and as their relationship continues to grow Alex and Kayla find themselves falling so deeply in love and their souls so connected that nothing or no one could ever tear them apart. Sometimes however, the past has a different plan. Through a series of twists and turns and unexpected deceit will it destroy them or make them more determined to have the future and happiness they both truly deserve?

I recommend this series highly. Definitely a 5 star read.

5 Stars!
True North picks up right were book one-North Star leaves off. Kayla and Alex are really trying to give their relationship a go but someone is really trying to get in between them. They don't know who keeps trying to hurt them.

This is the kind of story you think you have figured out and then boom, major plot twists. This had so many twists and turns that I was on the edge of my seat. I could not stop reading it!

Another one that makes you feel everything the characters are feeling and you find yourself really rooting for them to become a family. You are really hoping love will prevail.
The ending was absolutely perfect!

Another fantastic read by this author! Bravo M.E. Montgomery.
