DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - Officials said they have received word that the former police chief of the Denham Springs Police Department plans to appeal his firing.

Jennifer Barclay, the commissioner of the Denham Springs Civil Service Board, said the attorney for ex-Police Chief Scott Jones notified the board of his client's intentions to appeal.

She said a letter was sent out Wednesday morning to tentatively set a hearing date. A finalized date has not been set.

Jones and another officer were placed on administrative leave by Mayor Gerard Landry after questions were raised regarding the response of a police investigation involving active Denham Springs Councilman Christopher Davis.

Davis, 40, was arrested and booked on February 11 after he was accused of domestic abuse that happened on January 15. He was booked into the Livingston Parish Jail. He posted a $1,500 bond and was released.

However, Davis was not arrested the night of the incident. Rather, he was issued a citation, which led some to question whether this was a violation of protocol.

The report said Jones failed to follow a direct order from the mayor telling him to do everything strictly by the book.

Davis and his wife have both said the incident was an accident.

There has been no word on whether Capt. Steve Kistler, the other officer fired in the incident, plans to appeal.
