JAG GOLF IS GCAA ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM FOR SEVENTH YEAR IN A ROW

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of South Alabama men's golf program was named an All-Academic Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America Wednesday, the seventh straight season that the Jaguars have earned that distinction from the organization.

The recognition comes one week after the GCAA named multiple Jags — seniors Michael Garretson and Tyler Klava — as Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars, the fourth time in the last five years the program has achieved the feat.  To be eligible to be chosen an All-Academic Team by the association, a college or university must submit the grade-point averages for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.

As a group, the Jaguars posted a 3.42 cumulative GPA during the 2014-15 season; in fact, all eight members on the team roster had a least a 3.10 figure and were honored by the Sun Belt Conference earlier this month.  Garretson, Klava, Jason Mendel and Ryan Pope made the league's Commissioner's List with a GPA of 3.50 or higher last year, while Daniel Jansen, Ally Purdy, Max Rispler and Matt Sheehan qualified for the SBC Academic Honor Roll.

USA also recorded four finishes in the top six in competition during the campaign, including placing second out of 15 schools at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate to begin the spring semester.  The Jags ended up fourth in a field of 16 at the Tiger Invitational hosted by Auburn while coming in fourth at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate as well, and with a season-low 5-under-par team total at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic added a fifth-place result.
