Launch configurations aggregate an AMI with other configuration options to create a template that is leveraged by Auto Scaling. If you use Autoscaling to any degree, those launch configurations can proliferate and make it harder to search and filter through to find what you are looking for. Along with the recent redesign of the AMI page, we took the same magnifying glass to the launch configurations page, simplifying things as much as possible, while still giving you an overview of all the information you need when working with the configurations.

Select a launch configuration to view all associated information - CloudTrail events, instances using the configuration, block device mappings, any user data, as well as all Autoscaling groups using that launch configuration. 

Creating a launch configuration is as simple as can be - Select any AMI of your choice, and off you go!
