People Mag: Anna Duggar is not allowed speak to anyone outside of ‘Duggarville’

duggar people

You know how we discussed People Magazine’s relationship with the Duggars in an earlier story today? Sources claimed that People ended up playing hardball with the Duggars for last week’s cover story, because the Duggars didn’t want People to make any reference to Josh’s child molestation. People Mag finally said no to the Duggars and wrote a somewhat critical cover story last week, just as all the Ashley Madison stuff was breaking. And now it looks like People has joined In Touch Weekly in the entertainment-media’s takedown of this family. People Magazine is going HAM with multiple stories criticizing Josh and Jim-Bob Duggar in particular. Some highlights:

How the Duggars are feeling in the wake of Josh’s scandals: A Duggar source says, “It’s hurting everyone involved. Everyone feels betrayed.”

What Anna Duggar’s family knew about Josh’s child-molesting past: “We all knew that something had happened, but it definitely wasn’t portrayed in its entirety. Anna did know, but it was kind of something that was swept under the rug, and nobody made a big deal out of it.” Even after Anna’s parents learned the truth, “they still gave their blessing,” says the source, adding, “there was always something a bit odd about Josh.”

On Josh’s moralizing hypocrisy: “He sold it so well,” says the Duggar family source.

Jim Bob “exerts authority over his wife and family”: A family source says, “Jim Bob’s favorite word is ‘no.’ He’s like a dictator. He once saw a guy kissing a girl before marriage and confronted him about it. And the guy said, ‘Jim Bob, show me that verse in the Bible that says we can’t kiss. Get out your Bible.’ And Jim Bob was like, ‘Uhhhh …’ because no one ever confronts Jim Bob. No one….Jim Bob calls the shots. Always has and always will.”

The Duggars are controlling who speaks to Anna: “The scary thing is, I don’t know who is talking to Anna, outside of the people in Duggarville. It’s scary. I don’t know … how she is dealing with this. Aside from Duggarville … no one can get to her.”

The Duggars refuse to discuss sex: “They don’t talk about sex. They don’t talk about sexuality,” says the Duggar family source. Almost entirely cut off from the secular world, the Duggars strictly limited their children’s exposure to popular culture – and the source says that Jim Bob went as far as removing the batteries of any toys that made music “because he didn’t want [his kids] to dance or move their bodies that way.”

The Duggar code word: When someone says “Nike,” it’s the signal that some unclean harlot is walking down the street and “all the boys look straight down to the floor every time. It’s like an automatic military thing. Things like that blow my mind.”

Anna’s not allowed to get mad at Josh: “She doesn’t get mad. You are not allowed to get mad. It’s not godly for a woman. Ever since she met [the Duggars] she has acted more like Michelle. She talks like her, really soft. She, like, whispers.”

[From People Magazine]

This just makes me sad. For me, the veil of seeing Jim-Bob and Michelle Duggar as puppet-masters for their clan really came off when I watched their absolutely awful Fox News interview. These people are profoundly stupid and they’re raising their kids to be scared of normal life. They’ve really twisted everything around out of sheer ignorance and stupidity. And the thought that the Duggars are controlling access to poor Anna? Jesus. But yes, Josh Duggar has always been a pervert and it’s not surprising that the Duggars lied to Anna’s family just so they could get Josh out of the house. This whole thing is just ICK.

  1. Yeses says:

The Duggars are starting to sound more and more like a cult..

    • Grant says:

“Starting to”…? Honey, they’ve been a cult since the inception.

    • sauvage says:

THE QUIVERFUL MOVEMENT AS A WHOLE IS A DESTRUCTIVE CULT!

I highly recommend Steven Hassan: Combating Cult Mind Control.
It is both a great read and one of the most informative books on the subject of destructive cults – and Duggars and Co. exhibit all the traits to a T.

      • Yeses says:

I have to find those books and read them, possible dumb ? but does Anna have the option of walking out on the marriage or will she be ostracized or is she brainwashed into standing by her husband, no matter what?

      • Algernon says:

        @ Yeses

They don’t believe in divorce so she has to stay with her husband. If she left anyway, she would be ostracized. I don’t know if she, or anyone in the Quiverfull Movement, is full-blown brainwashed, but they are conditioned to “accept their lot as women” and support their husbands no matter what, even through infidelity and finding out they married and are having kids with a child molester. At the very least, these people, especially the women, are not educated and are kept fairly ignorant of the real world. They are intimidated into silence by the prospect of losing their friends/families/everything they know should they against the Movement’s teachings.

That sounds like a cult to me.

      • Belle says:

From what I’ve read, Josh & Anna live in a “covenant marriage” state. That means if they have a covenant marriage (many of the Duggar clan do) there is virtually no option for divorce. The only grounds Anna would have would be if she can prove adultery – and by prove I mean the burden of proof is on HER to prove he had sex with other women. Even if he beats her, it’s not grounds for divorce in a covenant marriage.

Sadly, I think that the only way Ma & Pa Duggar would have approved Josh marrying Anna is if they knew she was as brainwashed and malleable as their own brood. Getting out is probably not an option in her dead-eyed smiling head.

      • Tracy says:

It’s so much worse than just silencing Anna. They will convince her Josh’s perv tendencies are all her fault.

      • MrsNix says:

Biblically speaking, covenant marriage is broken and divorce is permissible when sexual misconduct or adultery is committed by EITHER partner. So, she could leave, but the cult aspect of their “religion” will mean she stays. Women are commodities with a job to do in their twisted version of Christianity. Side hugs and staying with your lecher of a husband are all in Jim Bob’s Bible…somewhere…apparently.

        These people are so creepy.

      • Cyra says:

I have to agree! Hassan’s book is definitive.

      • Sheila says:

Yeah, MrsNix. She has Biblical grounds but they’re part of an independent church so there’s like, no bishop or Vatican to appeal to. There are rules, but a lot f the rules aren’t written down anywhere, so the people who made them can cheat

    • Megan says:

Anna is going to end up locked in the same dungeon as Shelly Miscavige.

      • Isabelle says:

Its worse actually Anna is so brainwashed she doesn’t need to be locked away, she will comply and do as they say and will never rebel against them. Shelly is probably locked away because she did defy them in some way, Anna will never do it.

    • Nancy says:

Nah. They’ve been under the radar the whole time…..they’re just the headline since the sheet hit the fan. Lesson learned, Jim-Bob? The meek shall inherit the world

      • Mary s says:

This comment is frightening, as in dystopic horror, because I thought that forcing the Duggars into the open would ultimately lead to some sort of silver lining.

    • Sarah says:

Starting to? Where have you been? Regarding Anna – She’s a grown ass woman. Unless they have her hostage, she can leave. Anytime she wants to. Which she doesn’t want to do because she was basically sold into this marriage by another cult-like family.

      • sauvage says:

Sarah, she doesn’t know that she can leave. This is a woman who has been threatened and abused all her life and who knows no other way of living. She has no access to real life information, education, to anything we take for granted. She DOESN’T KNOW about it because those sick f***s in her cult prevented her from ever knowing that she has, indeed, the right to free will.

She is a psychological hostage, and none of it is her fault.

  2. The other paige says:

Finally, this family and their bull rap are going down….

    • Gen says:

      I am so glad.

    • minx says:

Ha! People is belatedly throwing them under the bus.

    • kcarp says:

I think they are going to try to get Jana married to distract from this stuff. She is like an old lady in Duggar world at like 25 and not married.

the Duggars are going to do whatever they can to try to regain some fans.

What kind of rehab is Josh going to? Is it like the one he went to as a teen where he just helped build some houses? I am going to say that one didn’t work too well. They may need to try something you know professional this time.

  3. Betti says:

    Dear God

Please don’t stop giving with this family, all i ask is: what do you have on Jim Bob and when can we see it?

    Kisses
    B

    • Christin says:

      Yes!

Things done in darkness are being brought to the light. With much more to come, I have no doubt.

    • LAK says:

Betti: didn’t we call it re: pre-emptive PR apology for unsolicited p0rn confession apology?!

      P0rn addiction my bottom!!!

      • Liberty says:

you both called it, and I salute your impressive prescience.

      • Betti says:

Yep we did – sadly there is still more to come. Wonder what his next statement will be – if he/they make one. Their statements are quite telling if you read between the lines.

    • HeatherAnn says:

Yes! You know the dirt is out there. I live in a community where the Duggars were practically worshipped as great parents and a beacon of godliness. I was constantly saying how bad they were. When my church put the girls book in our library I pitched a fit because my point was they suppress women and don’t believe in education and they don’t believe in equality so how can we support that. The response was but they’re cute and sweet and well behaved. People thought I was crazy for hating them so much. I don’t think you can hate women and suppress them (or any other group) and be an otherwise good person. Josh is the way he is because of his upbringing. Period. Okay, sorry for the rant.

      • SNAP says:

Ditto…nowehere in the Bible does it state women don’t have free will to live their lives as they want. It does teach that for every action there is a consequence, but through free will everybody has a God given gift/right to choose. Unfortunately this cult thinks that free will is for males only. They seem so afraid to let their women be. I really believe Jesus was/is all for gender equality. He brought grace for everyone bcs he knew we’d do mistakes while using our free will. In the old testament all we had was the law, mostly punishment, which seems to be what most repressive cults hold on to as well as a blatant man-made gender inequality.

      • HeatherAnn says:

I agree SNAP. I feel like the church should be the loudest voice advocating for gender equality and respect for all people.

      • Suzy from Ontario says:

HeatherAnn, I completely agree! They thought they were the perfect parents and had all the answers, but the way they raised those kids in such rigid isolation, making them suppress any emotion or natural feeling that they had because sexual feelings (that come naturally at puberty) are a sin, and even thinking about anything sexual means they should come and confess. And according to Gothard, who they follow, the child must always be happy and smiling and eager to help and to look sad or be depressed is an insult to the parents and God. Don’t be curious! Don’t think! Even as babies, they were “blanket-trained” and hit everytime they tried to crawl off the blanket to explore or go after a toy (they would use a toy to bait the child to crawl and then hit them when they did). No access to great literature or music. No contact with anyone who believes differently. No encouragement for higher education or careers, other than those approved by Jim Bob for the boys, and for the girls…wife and mother. Period. No birth control, even if the mother could die having another child. Such hypocrite! They say they leave it up to God how many kids they have, but when their last child (Josie) would have died if left to God, they didn’t hesitate to use modern medicine and all the science and technology available to keep her alive! And the way Jim Bob is always making sexual references to his kids…ick! They are beyond controlling

    • MrsNix says:

Oh, you just KNOW there’s a lot there, right? The skeletons in that man’s closet are probably really scary.

  4. LAK says:

“That lesbian media agenda is going full steam ahead” is how Jim Bob will explain it to the rest of the family.

    • whipmyhair says:

You beat me to it! But I was going to say :

‘The reason Anna can’t talk to anyone outside of “Duggarville”, is because JimBob is worried about the lesbian agenda swooping in and turning poor, sweet, defence less Anna into a lesbian!!!’

That poor family can only take so much scandal! /s

      • Joy says:

Duh everybody knows the media is controlled by lesbian aliens who have sex orgies with goats.

      • Maria A. says:

If I were him, I’d be more concerned that her fierce brother is going to swoop down and liberate her and all of the kids.

    • Rice says:

That lesbian media agenda sure knows how to get at that family. I mean, first it tricked Josh into molestation. Then it tricked Jessa (or whomever it was) into front-hugging before marriage. Then it circled back and enticed Josh with p0rn and infidelity. It’s like a living, breathing entity that consumes wholesome cults, I mean, er, families. What’s it going to do next? Get Jim-Bob to make a sex tape. It must be stopped. STOPPED, I SAY!!!

  5. Lucy says:

All these people are absolutely despicable and should have never been allowed near children, ever.

    • Jenna says:

It’s the whole “took out the batteries to his kid’s toys so they don’t move suggestively to the music” that freaks me out the most. Who the holy hell gets aroused watching a toddler wiggle around to “I’m a little teapot”?

Child molesters, that’s who. If you can’t see kids playing and bouncing about – LIKE KIDS DO – you are a sick f$%# (Sorry, sorry… been trying like hades to avoid these stories, too dratted triggering and my husband ends up having to hear me rant for a week at the drop of a hat until the seething and shaking stops). If you put sexual overtones onto the actions of small children playing and demand that A) You don’t explain sex to young teens BUT you B) constantly drill them on ‘whore’ patrol and how they must avert their eyes – not only is it a total disaster in the making for those kids as they become adults, but you (just so it’s really clear, because it’s the internet and I don’t wanna tangle my words – ‘You’ here is JimBob and the rest of the Quiverfull cult and those like them. NOT anyone here on the board. Unless the Duggars read these comments in which case I have to say “RUN GIRLS! There is life outside of it. Trust me!” eh-hem.) are pretty clearly spending your time sexualizing children and teens and are one sick person. I’d say they need serious help (everyone involved really) but frankly… I don’t think true pedophiles CAN be helped. Barring castration and some type of shock collar while keeping them outside of society forever.

Off for a nice midmorning shot of something until my hands stop shaking. (have yet to decide if it will be strong tea, espresso, chocolate or bourbon frankly) WHY do I keep letting myself get sucked into this? The vast majority of folks on here are so calm, rational, funny, insightful and okay to discuss and comment. Why can’t I stop feeling like I am going to vomit if these people (Duggars, not commenters) don’t go radio silent and soon?

      • rianic says:

I know them through mutual “friends,” and this is completely true.

I have a relative whose wife left the cult.

      • Lucky Charm says:

Jenna, Have an Irish coffee, it’ll help a lot! (Thank God for the Irish 😆)

      • HeatherAnn says:

Omg you are so completely one hundred percent right. I go back to a point I thought when the molestation charges came out- kids who molest at such a young age almost always were molested themselves. It all comes back to Jim Bob.

      • HeatherAnn says:

Also Jenna I have the complete same furious response to the Duggars. It pisses me off so much.

      • Cran says:

Bourbon goes well with chocolate, espresso or tea.

      • Isabelle says:

@rianic also have a friend that left this cult, she was sent to a “re-education” camp because she dared to question the creation story. She left when she turned 18, eventually her parents left after their minster was caught in an affair. The stories she tells are straight out of the definition of a cult. they don’t believe women are even aloud on a church stage unless a man is with them, not to sing, pray, etc….its messed up.

      • Suzy from Ontario says:

Jenna, I agree with you! Something is off with Jim Bob and the extreme rules in the midst of his constant talk about sex and purity and lust. It freaks me out the same way they have to cover a toddler’s shoulders because *modesty* in case lust is created “that cannot be righteously fulfilled”. Imo, if you’re getting aroused from toys and toddlers shoulders or seeing an innocent child dancing… something is seriously wrong with you! cough*Jim Bob*cough

There is just something not right about him. He strikes me as the type that is all soft-spoken and nice face to face but behind closed doors, I think he could be quite mean and even abusive. He’s too controlling not to be, plus there has to be a reason those kids are so scared to stray off the path or rebel in any way (other than Josh who did it on the DL and got caught). And I’ve never seen a normal father talk about sex with his wife so much in front of the kids. That episode with him and Michelle on the mini golf course on a double=date with Ben and Jessa… I was embarrassed for them. What father dry-humps the mother in front of the daughter whlie the mother cackles…”You can’t do this yeeeettttt” Huge ick factor! Plus he is a classic narcissist and so is Michelle. They constantly have to make everything about them at the expense of others. I mean, what mother taks her old wedding dress to display at her daughter’s wedding? Let your daughter have her special day without you horning in on it and trying to grab a piece of the spotlight! Sheesh!

  6. stellainnh says:

Josh’s deviant behavior is a result of his upbringing.

    • Izzy says:

Not really, or they’d all be pedophiles. It may have contributed to it, but there is a factor of pedophilia where someone is hard-wired to it. Something is not right in their head, literally.

      • Jenna says:

While upbringing DID help build in the terrible sense of entitlement Josh rocks, it’s NOT a direct cause/effect. The vast majority due end up dealing and struggling with lifelong challenges to recover from the life he has been brought up it – but don’t end up pedophiles. It’s too easy and too big of an excuse to blame his upbringing, honestly. He is an adult. He isn’t sheltered anymore, he’s part of the big bad world (and rants about it all the time… seems he is a fan of doing personal research on the temptations of the world) and has seen right and wrong, good and bad – and made his own choices. His upbringing built in his world view of being the golden first born son, but I know too many people who grew up like he did who looked in the mirror and realized they hated what they saw and worked like hell to fix it. I promise I’m not trying to wail on you Stellainnh (and Izzy, you are so right), it’s just I can’t give people like Josh and Jimbob ANY room to wiggle out of personal responsibility, can’t allow them any room to claim they are simply products of their upbringing. Crappy humans are crappy humans because they chose that path. It all comes down to choice – and the ones they make are terrible, damaging, in several cases illegal and ultimately simply evil. But they all ~chose~.

      • SNAP says:

You have a point…i come from a dysfunctional family yet i decided not to go the route of drugs or vandalism because as an adult you can choose how to live your life regardless of how your family of origin was. Again, we make use of our free will gift/right.

  7. Lara K says:

    Of course not!
Anyone in their right mind would tell her to leave his lying, cheating, scumbag a$$.

She needs to be deprogrammed, stat. I wonder if her brother can file for mental health guardianship…

Also, I wonder if the only way to get her to wake up is to get the kids taken away. Someone really should start a CPS investigation.

    • frisbee says:

Yes they do need to start a CPS investigation – what does it take to instigate that in the US? In the UK a member of the public or a professional can make a referral to the Local Authority or the Police if they believe a child is in danger http://www.nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/child-protection-system/england/referrals-investigations/ I shouldn’t imagine it would be very different over there.

      • BearcatLawyer says:

We have roughly the same system. The trouble is that unless a *believable* reporter indicates that the child is in immediate and potentially serious danger of abuse or neglect, the overworked CPS staff will not necessarily send someone out to investigate right away. Plus, in this case the kids are homeschooled and unlikely to have much contact with the outside world and concerned teachers, coaches, or friends’ parents who could make a legitimately believable report.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Different states have different rules and, as we have seen with Josh’s earlier wrongs, the family uses its political connections to block the state agency’s actions

      • frisbee says:

Thanks for the info, I see they are basically ‘locked’ up in more ways than one. God that is so sick…

      • WinnieCoopersMom says:

This is so so frightening. She is like a prisoner in that family. A slave to their cult. Like Scientology. This reminds me so much of Katie Holmes, except this poor girl doesn’t have those resources.

  8. Belle Epoch says:

No education, no skills, no clue about the real world, saddled with several children already, married to a one-man Axis of Evil, not allowed to speak to anyone – and told this all makes God happy. I would stick a fork in that God, but I wasn’t brought up in a cult.

PS They believe physical abuse is fine. Look up blanket training.

    • FingerBinger says:

Corporal punishment has to come with an iron fist. I guarantee spare the rod spoil the child is a mantra in the Duggar house.

      • aims says:

I have a feeling that they beat the hell out of those kids. The more I hear about this family the more twisted and sick they become. The authorities need to get involved immediately. Anna is involved in an abusive marriage and she has no support of getting out. This is truly frightening.

      • K 2 says:

I don’t know if you’ve heard of Debi Pearl, but the family used to openly espouse her methods of childrearing. Those methods would include putting a 6 month old baby on a blanket and then beating them if they move off it, so in the end, they don’t follow their developmentally important instinct to explore their environment. Pearl states that you must absolutely break the child’s spirit. They are also beaten if they ever look sad, because that is a rebellion against their parents and their parents represent God. So they are trained to smile and show a glad countenance at all times.

Sick, sick people. Especially as neither JB or Michelle were raised that way themselves. He’s just a power-mad egomaniac, and she’s his enabler.

      • Suzy from Ontario says:

They used an actual rod to beat them …it’s in the police reports that were released about Josh!

    • MelissaManifesto says:

This isn’t about God. None of this is. This is the work of horrible people who use the Bible to oppress women and try to diminish anyone who does not agree with them.

    • Samtha says:

I know a lot of people here have no sympathy for her, but I do. She’s a victim–brainwashed by her parents and the Duggars and now a prisoner with few choices or resources. Hopefully her brother will be able to get through to her somehow…

She could probably make a decent amount of money just by leaving him and then selling her story to the tabloids or some other news outlet. And if the pedophile has any money left, she’d get spousal and child support. It’s a start.

      • MrsNix says:

I do, too. I have tremendous sympathy. She had no chance. She has no reference for a different paradigm.

She did everything she was supposed to do. She has obeyed the rules and done what she has been taught from birth good people/women are supposed to do.

And now she is well and truly stuck. With four kids (and will have many more, likely as not).

  9. Chaucer says:

I have hopes that in 20 years or so (since there’s really no hope of it happening sooner), Anna will finally escape and do a tell-all interview that will just completely demolish this family. It will be so interesting.

    • WinnieCoopersMom says:

Ugh….do we really have to wait 20 years? It will be way too late by then. Think of all the damage they and Josh can do in darkness over the next two decades. More kids, more sidepiece victims..Bill Cosby 2.0

  10. meme says:

Enough with these people. I feel like every other story is about a Kumtrashian or a Duggar.

  11. Abbicci says:

People magazine can bite it. If the Duggars had spoken to them for the last interview People would still be playing nice with them. People doesn’t care about showing what this family is like. People is going all Taylor Swift on them and mean girling them now.

After all the covers and pieces with the ‘aw ,shucks aren’t they all just precious and sweet as Jesus. They are sooooooooooo normal’ NOW People thinks there might be something wonky about this family. The blanket training, having your home declared a church to avoid paying taxes, the misogyny, the side hugging and all that other crap was normal according to People before Josh became a famous child molester.

People can bite it and choke on it for all I care.

    • zinjojo says:

^^Yes to everything you’ve just written. People has been the Duggar’s enabler almost as much as TLC. They’ve had how many covers and articles over the years? And all of the articles attempt to normalize, brand and market the anything-but-normal behavior of the Duggars.

    • cannibell says:

People isn’t a terribly healthy environment. A lot of ex-staffers took what they learned there and deployed it more successfully at other magazines (Us, In Touch). They were the leader and set the standard. Now they’re just trying to stay relevant.

    • lucy2 says:

      YES.
They’ve been pro-Duggar and making money on them up until the shit hit the fan and the family stopped playing along. While I’m glad to see another media outlet turning on them and exposing the abuse of this cult, it’s kind of an empty gesture at this point.

  12. frisbee says:

“there was always something a bit odd about Josh” – no really? It’s disgraceful the way Anna’s parents sold her out knowing that there was ‘something’ about him, what the effing h*ll were they thinking of?

  13. korra says:

Poor Anna. Le sigh. This family has lost their damn mind. They are you’re right PROFOUNDLY STUPID.

    • zinjojo says:

They lost their damn minds a long, long time ago. Jim Bob is a scary authoritarian who doens’t want anyone, anytime questioning anything he does. I can only imagine what else is lurking out there in regards to this family.

I feel so sorry for those brainwashed kids. Even if they were to escape, they will have life-long problems from their upbringing, and the really sad thing is most of them likely won’t escape.

  14. Zip says:

“The Duggar code word: When someone says “Nike,” it’s the signal that some unclean harlot is walking down the street and “all the boys look straight down to the floor every time.”

It would be really funny if it wasn’t so sad.

    • maura says:

It’s reading stuff like that which makes me really want to antagonise them by dancing around them in a bikini while they should “nike! Nike! Niiiiiike!” Which makes me sound deranged but still more normal than they are!

    • Suzy from Ontario says:

It’s so stupid! They make mens’ lust the responsibility of the girls, telling them they have to dress modestly otherwise they may create lust, but don’t tell their boys to learn self control!

They live in this world, this reality, and they need to learn skills to survive and be responsible people who can earn a living and know how to control themselves… they are going to see girls and women wearing skimpy clothing. Instead of teaching them it’s not a big deal and that some feelings are just biologically natural, but we exercise control over how those feelings are dealt with, espcially regarding other people, the Duggar way to ignore, hide away, shelter them, don’t look, don’t go to the beach, wear bathing suits from the 1700s!

They do everything they can to cripple the kids in every way – from no real education, no encouragement of higher education, no independance, no freedom or going away to school. No trust – you must always have an accountability partner with you to keep you from straying off the right path, and even adults dating must be chaperoned and have every phone call monitored by the parents. That is just unnatural and intrusive. If they believe they have raised their kids so well, where’s the trust in those kids? Jana, at 25, should be out in the world, at college working on a degree in something she loves, dating, exploring the world, making friends. Instead she is stuck at home taking care of her parents’ children and has no real social life and certainly no dating life. It’s sad. It’s abuse, imo!

I don’t know why anyone thinks or ever thought these were great parents! What have they done for their kids except isolate them from the world and suppress who they are?

  15. Hautie says:

One day… one of those girls will escape that house.

    Without marriage being involve.

They are going to have a tale to tell. She will be the one who gets the new show. 🙂

And I will watch the hell out of that show.

    • korra says:

Huh. That would be such a poetic way of doing this story.

    • Savannah says:

OMG yes please can that happen. If they’re smart one of them will abscond sooner than later. Strike while the iron’s hot as they say!

  16. Tiffany27 says:

OMG they are a true, for real cult. How terrifying.

  17. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Ok, there’s something huge out there about Jim-Bob. He’s either a rapist or a child molester or gay. (Not comparing those thing except they would be equally disgraceful to the Duggars). Or he was molested by his mother. Or something. NOBODY is that hung up about sex for no reason.

God, poor Anna. Not allowed to have feelings of anger, especially after all of this? She must be so beaten down and hollow and depressed. This is sort of embarrassing, but I left her a message on her Facebook page about how it wasn’t her fault, no matter what they tried to spin it. All of the messages were same topic – get out, you don’t deserve this, they’re a cult, we are with you, we support you. I’m sure she hasn’t seen any of them.

    • frisbee says:

What if he’s all three? Nothing is beyond the bounds of possibility with this lot. I don’t think it’s embarrassing that you left Anna a message on Facebook, at the risk of sounding creepy (suck up, is it, in your neck of the woods?) I think that’s lovely of you to bother. I just hope she gets to see it.

    • BearcatLawyer says:

Ironic, isn’t it, GNAT, that you are more maternal to a perfect stranger than her own biological mother? God may have a sense of humor about who gets to reproduce in this world. but bless you, your heart is in the right place.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Thank you, BearcatLawyer. That was really kind of you. Yes, this poor lost girl needs a mother, and the one she has only cares about herself.

    • doofus says:

been saying the same thing, GNAT m’dear, re: Dim Bulb.

Josh learned it (the molestation) from somewhere…and I’m still wondering about the whole “coincidence” that the person they got to “counsel” Josh after the molestation came to light was ALSO a pedophile. it was almost as if Dim Bulb KNEW this guy was into the same stuff, and he pointed Josh to this guy to teach him how to cover it up.

a silkwood shower isn’t even enough to cleanse the mind after reading about this family.

    • Wren says:

Or he could be one of those people who thirsts for power and control and this is how he satisfies it. He wields enormous power, he’s a king in his own tiny little kingdom, and exerts control over every single aspect of his wife and children’s lives.

Look at his daughter Jessa. Though she’s been much thwarted, she appears to have her own thirst for the spotlight and a need for the attention of others. Look at Josh. He too craves positions of power. That could be Jim Bob’s legacy. We don’t know. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was something darker. After all, where did Josh learn his behavior?

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

This. I know a lot of people weren’t happy when a certain female celebrity recently said the world would change if we stopped having sex with men, because they enjoy sex too blah blah.

But when I look at the Duggars I believe it.

A whole lot of women had to individually make the choice to become submissive to these men (all the Jim Bob’s) and what’s better for someone’s ego and sense of control than having everyone so tightly leashed they can’t see straight. He probably does have issues, but I don’t think we have to link rape or molestation to his issues. Every dictator in a foreign country wasn’t molested, hell some were exceptionally privelaged.

Well Jim Bob is dictator of his own little reign and everyone bows down to him and refuses to see the world for what it is.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I still think there’s another shoe. You’re right, it doesn’t have to be tied to sex, but that seems to be his main focus. Toddlers dancing is sexually provocative? To whom? There’s something underneath that. I think, anyway.

    • SillySimone says:

As a mother, I can tell you that children love to dance. There is nothing inappropriate about it. They move in whatever way depending on their mood or the music or whatever. The ONLY obscenity to this innocent for mof entertainment and self expression is found in the mind of a perverted individual. This right here tells me that something is very wrong with JimBob and the little girls in his house, family, life. Only a pervert could look at a little girl dancing and think something sexual was going on. It gives me chills and makes me sick that these girls are so sexualized (by being warned against it) at such a young age.

    • chaine says:

i don’t think it’s embarrassing. i left her a message too on her social media. she is a human being and at some point she might take comfort from seeing that people are sympathizing with her and reaching out to her.

I feel like Gopher ( jimboob) would be the kind of misogynist who would (in his home) openly abuse women-verbally/mentally and physically- but wouldn’t leave marks that could be seen- like the type of man who would hiss insults and deal body blows. 🙁
Some time recently, a waitress spoke of how he treated her like a non- person- maybe I read it on Gawker- he wouldn’t acknowledge or treat her with any decency or respect whatsoever. And this was out in public, the real world, not cloistered in their home.

Even if she doesn’t see it or chooses to ignore it, maybe someone else stuck in a bad situation will, and know that there are people out there who care.

    • HeatherAnn says:

I think it’s sweet too. It just means you care. I wouldn’t bother, which isn’t right, I know. I just don’t think most people have the balls to go against their upbringing.

  18. Mzizkrizten says:

Poor Anna. I can’t even imagine what she’s going through.

  19. littlemissnaughty says:

It’s ungodly for a woman to get mad? How very convenient for these a**holes.

    • frisbee says:

I’d really like them to see me get all ‘ungodly’ – as an atheist I have no fear at all for my immortal soul. Actually I’d like to put the male Duggers in a room with a few of the ‘Ungodly’ women on this site don’t reckon they’d last too long somehow.

    • Pinky says:

Really? Old Testament God is the angriest being I know. Sounded totes godly to me.

      • Jessiebes says:

New Testament Jesus overturning the tables in the temple comes to mind too.

      • Wren says:

God’s not a woman, silly pants! It’s only women who aren’t allowed to get angry, or do anything that might possibly discomfit their owner- I mean husband or father.

        *gag*

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

These a**holes replace the word “God” with the word “man” or “male.” They don’t worship God. They worship themselves – men.

    • holly hobby says:

And these creepers dare pass judgment on what goes on in the Middle East? I find it highly laughable that they go around and demonize another culture (it’s not really ok how they treat women btw) yet think this is totally acceptable?

  20. Vampi says:

This is what happens when you repress normal sexual curiosity and urges. You get very young people who are never even TOLD what sex is until two weeks before they wed? What?!!!
And you get a bunch of Josh and Anna Duggars. A man, who knows NADA about sex, resspect, and intamacy.. who lords power over his wife…. A wife who has no option but to deal with it because they keep her isolated like a POW.
    This Family needs a hero.
Why aren’t cults like this more appaling to people? Why was this cult celebrated for SO LONG on National Television? Why? Someone help me wrap my brain around this because even before ANY of this shady mess came to light I had the same questions. Why was this controlling Cult ever given a greenlight? Ugh.

    • Sam says:

Because they hide it. If you watch the show, the Duggars just came off as a large, conservative and Christian family. They went to great lengths to HIDE the more objectionable parts of their system. The older kids were shown minding the little ones, etc. However, the reality of the situation was that the older kids basically raise the younger ones. If the footage wasn’t edited or altered, that’s what you would see – the oldest girls cooking, cleaning, schooling the little ones, all of that. They were work horses.

The show’s deception was that it was edited. They allowed the parents to control the narrative. I actually remember a show where they stated, “There’s nothing wrong with intimacy, we just choose to forego it before marriage.” That’s a lie. They believe that any intimacy before marriage (and they include kissing, frontal hugging, etc.) as immoral and of the devil. There is absolutely nothing wrong with foregoing sex (or anything else) before marriage, engagement, etc. – IF THAT’S WHAT YOU WANT. But the Duggar kids don’t get a choice. It is expected. I watched the episode where Jessa and Ben got engaged. He put the ring on her finger and she actually moved forward and “front hugged” him. And they sort of jumped apart like they both got shocked. That was sad. She just got engaged – she should feel free to hug him in the conventional way. But she’s so beat down by her parents, she had to quickly stop. That made me so sad for her.

I know that’s a rant, but it felt good saying it. The Duggars aren’t conservative Christians who just think that sex is an intimate thing, designed to be shared by committed people together. They see it as dirty and filthy and a necessary evil to make babies. But you wouldn’t know that by watching the show. You’d think they were just conservative people leading regular lives. I don’t blame Americans for not realizing the truth sooner, I blame TLC for pushing this false narrative.

      • Marianne says:

Exactly. For a long time they just came off as being very religious, very conservative. Which is…..ok. Nothing wrong with that. Its not like their tv show had them spouting off about the evil gays or anything. They seemed “harmless”, which is why they were on for so long.

  21. MonicaQ says:

If anything, I hope more things about Gothard’s teachings come out. It’s pretty gross and petrifying.

  22. Triple Cardinal says:

Are other Quiverfull families this extreme, or are the Duggars the exception?

    • mkyarwood says:

They are the same in the whole ‘totally oppress women’ under your thumb and penis, thing.

      http://www.patheos.com/blogs/nolongerquivering/

    • Sam says:

Some of the particulars might be different, but the general idea is the same. Quiverfull families believe that the man is the head of household. Divorce is rare, largely because the women do not usually advance beyond high school and are homemakers for the majority of their lives – so even if they are unhappy or would prefer to leave, they usually do not have any means to support themselves and their numerous children. So even IF Anna wanted to divorce Josh, what means would she have? She has no college or trade experience. What are her skills? She’d be responsible for earning a living and caring for 4 small children. And beyond that, she’d be ostracized from almost anyone she’s known. The community is small and insular and leaving Josh would force her out.

      • Anname says:

I was glad to see her brother offered to take her in. It sounds like he is still some sort of Christian, even if he isn’t fanatical like the rest of his family, so that may make it easier for Anna to feel like she isn’t abandoning God altogether. She has a place to go, to take her kids. She could have the time there to figure out what is next for her, how to rebuild her life.

      • Sam says:

I was surprised to see Anna’s brother supporting her. I know very little about Anna’s family background, but I got the impression that they are similar to the Duggars. (I did not get that impression with Jill’s husband, who seems to come from a conservative Christian home, but not a Duggar-esque one). Her brother seems to understand that Anna should not be expected to continue living with a man with so many problems.

I’m conflicted. Plenty of women have forgiven husbands who have cheated on them (coughHillarycough). That’s their prerogative and I don’t begrudge Anna forgiving him if she wants. The problem is that Anna isn’t being given a free choice. She is expected to forgive him, no questions asked. I’m glad her brother seems to get that the faith should not excuse Josh, he’s betrayed Anna and that Anna should have a choice in whether to continue the marriage.

I feel bad for Anna because you know they are putting this on her. They believe a man will only stray if he’s lacking something at home. Michelle used to teach classes where she said the secret to a happy marriage is to never, ever deny your husband sex ever, for any reason (not even sickness or other reasons). They are probably probing all this stuff – Did she ever refuse sex? Well, that’s why he cheated. Did she “allow” herself to become unattractive by his standards? That’s why he cheated. They will heap the blame upon her.

  23. mkyarwood says:

Jim Bob must have been seriously messed with, himself. His issue with his kids not dancing is an issue I wrestle with, as a survivor. When my eldest wants to wear a skirt that’s above her knees (she is six), my skin crawls immediately. I was ‘hit on’ by an old man when I was six, wearing a short skirt and molested by different teenaged boys between the ages of 3 and 10. Where were my parents? Around. Believe me, they don’t have to be far away for this to happen.

The lasting effects are for me to want to restrict what my daughters wear, to ask them to stop dancing a certain way or to keep their hands off men like their uncles just in case. I don’t do these things, though. I ask her to wear shorts under her skirts, teach her that her body is hers alone, to dance like nobody’s watching and keep a close eye, myself, on the adult men and adolescent boys in her life. Confident, self aware women are what is needed to break this cycle. Despite what happened to me, I live a positive life in a healthy, honest relationship and learned to take what I teach my kids a step further than the Where Do I Come From book my parents bought.

    • zinjojo says:

I’m so sorry what happened to you, and understand the initial reactions you must feel in all sorts of triggering situations. And you also sound like a terrific mom, teaching your daughters about their own agency, and also wanting to protect them. More power to you!

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I second everything zinjojo said. You are breaking the cycle. That’s wise and brave and you are a wonderful mother.

    • Vampi says:

God Bless you MKYARWOOD. I’m SO sorry for what you endured. It takes a hella strong woman to overcome what you have. And it’s OK to be cautious about your kids, especially considering how you were raised, but you have found a way to be cautious without shaming your daughter or stopping her from the joy of life and dancing. You are an inspiration to others trapped in that cult-like type of thinking.
You made me smile on a day where there’s not a whole lot to smile about. Thank you. God Bless you and your family.

  24. DEB says:

She, like, whispers. LOL!! What a rip-roaring fool!! As another site put it, you’re basically just furniture with a vagina.

    • Anname says:

Worse than that I think….furniture isn’t expected to cook and clean for the almighty man of the house. Serve him, shut up, and breed.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

It’s easy to laugh at her and call her a fool, but try to remember that she has been sheltered and brainwashed all of her life. I’m not admonishing you. I said in another thread that I feel sorry for Jessa (Josh’s sister) but despise her at the same time. These people bring up a lot of feelings in all of us. I’m sure Anna never had a chance to get to know a boy, fall in love, break up, think about what didn’t work for her, and try again, gradually discovering what she wanted in a relationship. She was kept isolated and didn’t even know what sex was until two weeks before her wedding. And now, she has all of these jerks in her face telling her she will go to hell if she doesn’t forgive Josh, that it was partly her fault, that all she needs to do is pray. Her own siblings are trying to reach out to her through Facebook, which tells me they aren’t allowed to contact her directly. I don’t think she is so much a fool as she is a prisoner.

      • Anname says:

Absolutely, I don’t blame her. She has never had the chance to learn any other way of life is possible.

      • DEB says:

Surely though, in this day and age, you HAVE to know you have OPTIONS. Is she kept away from news media? Computers? Books? Magazines? Television? Billboards?? If so then this whole mess is far scarier than people realize. What a life! Not.

      • Pinetree13 says:

DEB she absolutely is! How can she see billboards when she likely can’t drive and is housebound with four young children? She most likely isn’t allowed on her husbands computer because that would count as “mans work” also non-Christian literature in their home? As if!

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Absolutely, Deb, these people are scary. No tv, only approved books, no magazines but Christian, no music but Christian, home-schooled so they don’t get to talk to other kids, never alone with a boy until they are married, not allowed to text or email the boy they are “courting” without parents reading the text – they were kept completely sheltered and in the dark ages. These people are sick, I’m telling you.

  25. Sonya says:

I was by no means raised with religion to this degree, but I was raised in a very “christian” cult-like world that has a lot of similar teachings and they drove home the idea that a woman’s value was given to her by the value her husband placed on her. If you were “used” and “unclean” no man would want you or value you and you would be alone and cast out forever. This “used” label comes from any sexual activity – even with your husband. In that would Anna has been used and no one will want her, and she has no value anymore – unless she stays with her husband. He is the only one who can validate her. It is such a messed up mindset.
I had a friend who slept with her fiance and she felt awful and confessed this to a church leader, after berating her and saying some awful things he told her that she better hope the boy still wanted her because he had every right to want a clean woman as his wife and that she needed to pray to God to restore her hymen as an act of forgiveness so that her husband could have the experience he deserved on their wedding night.
We also had the pastor’s wife leading the women’s night and there were a few single mothers. She would pray at the closing each night that God would grace them with a man who would look upon whores and choose to love them anyway and who would lead them into a life of righteousness.
I walked away when I finally could, but even though I know mentally that I do not believe in that and even though I have my own thoughts and beliefs when it comes to God there are times when I am filled with doubt and shame and fear because when you are raised that way it gets deep into your subconscious.

    • bellenola says:

I wish I could hug you, Sonya. 🙂

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

The damage these people do is sickening. And it has nothing to do with God. I’m so glad you got away from there.

      • lucy2 says:

        It’s all control. Sick control.
Sonya, you are stronger than you know, walking away from it. Next time the doubt starts to creep in, remind yourself of that.

    • Samtha says:

That’s terrible, and those people should be ashamed for how they’re perverting the religion. It reminds me of this from the Bible:

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

    • Isabelle says:

I’m a Christian and went a Christian retreat. the main speaker at this retreat preached that women could be “redeemed” through giving birth and through the womb. Men are “redeemed” through work and providing income. This fool seriously taught this. I got up and walked out. Sure enough we found out later he was part of the have as many kids as possible movement. His family wouldn’t stand up to worship until he did. They sat down when he sat down and stood up when he stood up. One of the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. His wife looked dead in the eyes and his children acted like little robots.

  26. KDawg says:

You guys, I am from the same town as the Duggars. I live in Seattle now and it is so embarrassing that these wackos are default representatives of my Motherland. I stopped telling people I’m from Arkansas lest I’m immediately branded some fundamentalist, ignorant, hateful, anti-equality, sex-shaming nut case.

    • frisbee says:

No, America is your Motherland, Arkansas is just one State in a bl**dy big country and just as no one in their right minds would confuse decent Americans with these sicko bast*ards, they won’t confuse you. This is an American site with mainly American commentators on it, clearly decent people, you are just another one of them.

    • Isabelle says:

Live in the PNW, originally from Appalachia. Have actually started very good conversations about why they’re making those assumptions. Never have shame for where you come from, they should be ashamed they’re stereotyping & are social labeling a whole group of people, but are so PC about everyone else. Don’t change who you are because of someone elses assumptions about a region. Also they need to see good representatives of the south instead of the images they get from the media only. PNW also has its stereotypes , so don’t let them slide that easy.

  27. The Original G says:

Seeing Amal on on the same cover makes me wish that she would take Anna’s case to some Human Rights tribunal and get her set free.

    • AntiSocialButterfly says:

She certainly looks like a person with a bad case of Stockholm Syndrome.

    • Neah23 says:

Amal really not a “Human Rights lawyer” if you look at the cases she assistants on she been on the side of the criminal not the victims.

  28. Betti says:

More of Josh’s other women are going to come out of the wood work, Dancia is just the beginning.

I suspect we’ll have another story about how they are stopping the authorities from getting near the kids – i would not be surprised if CPS has already tried to visit them and turned away. They will have got lawyered up. Details of those visits could be the refused FOI requests.

  29. bondbabe says:

I like how these people use “God” when it is convenient; as in, they got their money-machine TV show–“it’s from God because He is showering His countenance and good grace upon us.” But when it comes to destructive behavior and bad happenstances–“that is the sin of man and Satan.”

So my question is…if God allows this wonderful stuff to happen to/for you, shouldn’t the bad stuff that happens to/for you also be attributed to God allowing that to happen?

(This also applies to when I see athletes specifically giving thanks/pointing to the sky for a spectacular accomplishment (touchdown); what about when they screw up (fumble), where’s the attribution to God then?)

    • notasugarhere says:

Have you seen the official clip for An Act of God with Jim Parsons? It is available on YouTube and it has a really funny bit about sports and God.

    • Pinetree13 says:

Exactly…god helped you find your car keys or score that touchdown but doesn’t lift a finger when children are starved or beaten. But “free will!” The religious will cry….yup makes perfect sense. This is why I truly believe that once you reach a certain level of intelligence you must reject mainstream religions as the fairy tales they are.

      • DIANE says:

I couldn’t agree more, Pinetree. My family tried to indoctrinate me into Catholicism. At my first holy communion…well, the body of christ was just so damned dry. I couldn’t swallow it and spit it into my little plastic purse. In retrospect, quel symbolism. Even as a child, I looked on religion as a punishment and got away from it as soon as I could.

  30. Jas says:

Keeping someone hostage using psychological coercion is illegal surely? If she’s this isolated maybe she’s not even aware of the newest allegations of him violently ‘having sex’ with a hooker and scaring the living hell out of her. Surely social services could intervene now? This man is an unrepentant sociopath, he is a danger to all women having been indoctrinated to hate them and has a history of molesting little girls. His wife and daughters are probably at huge risk right now because this man expresses himself through sexual violence and deviancy and since the whole world will be watching him when he leaves his house the only place he can currently unleash those desires is within the home. The stress and rage of being exposed for what he is could trigger far worse behaviour than he has already displayed.

    • Portland Jan says:

If they are keeping Anna locked down, unable to either leave with the kids or converse with anyone outside the family, then they are committing kidnapping and false imprisonment. If the police weren’t under JimBorg’s thumb, surely they would have been out there demanding to see and speak to her.

    • Pinetree13 says:

I agree..his outlet has been taken away from him and he will escalate to abusing his wife.

  31. Algernon says:

I haven’t watched much of their show because these people make me nine kinds of ragey, but how have they been on TV so long and yet remained so isolated from the real world? Do they not travel? It seems counterintuitive to have that much exposure, be on the cover of magazines, etc, and yet still be so separate from the mainstream world.

  32. Jmeow11 says:

It’s sad to me that this trashy family gets the cover of people and the 3 guys who stopped a train massacre unarmed! Get a sideline. There is something wrong with that. The duggers are complete trash and I’m glad their are crashing and burning

  33. bettyrose says:

Is a cult by definition required to subjugate women or are there cults that equally repress all members? I’m not clear on how CO$ works.

    • Algernon says:

Cults by definition are “a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader. ” CO$ oppresses everyone, not just women, but it seems like a lot of cults do include the subjugation of women. It’s just not a requirement.

  34. Who ARE these people? says:

“She doesn’t get mad. You are not allowed to get mad. It’s not godly for a woman.”

Somebody help me, I am utterly ungodly.

  35. K says:

I’m sorry but this is abusive there is no other word for it. This is the definition of emotional abuse, the drugggers are doing it their children and now they all are doing it to Anna.

    It’s sickening!

  36. daisyfly says:

I’m pretty sure that there will be no AshleyMadison account for JimBob, only because he doesn’t strike me as an “adultery with women” kind of guy.

Now Rentboy, on the other hand…

  37. Jayna says:

I remember watching a couple of back-to-back repeats of the Duggar show when Jill was courting and went to India and then coming back. Jim Bob creeped me out in such a way that my skin crawled. Always on top of the couple, watching like he was going to pounce if they did more than a side hung. And he was just so overly involved and watching every move they made. And normal people would say how sweet it was, like overlooking his creepiness, and just paying attention to the young couple developed a crush on each other. It was odd the way he hovers and inserts himself.

He’s probably a perv like his son, so compensates by coming up with these over-the-top rules regarding courting and sex and stuff, to hide who he really is deep inside. Didn’t he come up with side hugs only, not the Quiverfull sect?

    • Sheila says:

side hugs happen in regular conservative evangelical Christianity too, but only among people of opposite sex who have no relationship. Normal conservative Christians don’t side hug your own family

I feel bad for the unmarried sisters. They truly have no options. No alimony or child support. Anna could sue for Child Support if she left. She wouldn’t be financially destitute. The sisters who are married could leave the family with their husbands potentially. But the unmarried sisters with no education who are part of this circus….what can they do? Education is so important for both sexes!! That is the first clue that the Quiverfall movement is screwed up, obviously amongst many others.

  39. Char says:

Just saw the new Statement the Duggar’s released. Josh just checked himself in to some type of long term treatment facility. Now maybe someone can help Anna. I saw a post written by a Christian woman who wrote it as a “letter to Anna” & she called it spiritual abuse, if those around Anna are telling her that divorce is worse than what Josh did. unfortunately I doubt anyone around her( other than maybe her brother) will tell her that it’s ok to leave.

    • Jayna says:

Anna is getting counseling. Who do you think that’s by? The church. They have her away from media. She doesn’t know any of the new stuff coming out. The Duggars and her parents, who are just like the Duggars, are probably surrounding Anna to keep her in the fold and not leave him.

    • Neah23 says:

Josh didn’t check himself into anything it’s more like Jimbob told him to go away for little bit until this blows over. Anna will probably movie in with the Duggars and be kept lockdown.

    • Lilacflowers says:

And while he is wherever, she is still extremely vulnerable because she has no job, no income, no education, no training, no job experience, no marketable skills, and all assets are probably in his name alone. She has no ability to support those four kids. The evil Squirrel has probably stepped in and taken control of those kids.

  40. aims says:

I came across this post written by a woman named Jessica Kirkland. It absolutely sums up how I feel about how we should raise our daughters and about the Dugger family.

” As a mother of daughters, this makes me ill. Parents, WE MUST DO BETTER BY OUR DAUGHTERS. Boys, men, are born with power. Girls have to command it for themselves. They aren’t given it. They assume it and take it. But you have to teach them to do it, that they can do it. We HAVE to teach our daughters that they are not beholden to men like this. That they don’t have to marry a man their father deems “acceptable” and then stay married to that man long, long after he proved himself UNACCEPTABLE. Educate them. Empower them. Give them the tools they need to survive, on their own if they must.

Josh Duggar should be cowering in fear of Anna Duggar right now. Cowering. He isn’t, but he should be. He should be quaking in fear that the house might fall down around them if he’s in the same room as she. Please, instill your daughters with the resolve to make a man cower if he must. To say “I don’t deserve this, and my children don’t deserve this.” I wish someone had ever, just once, told Anna she was capable of this. That she knew she is. As for my girls, I’ll raise them to think they breathe fire.”

    • Maggie the Cat says:

Bravo Jessica Kirkland, I only hope Anna in her dungeon gets a chance to read it. She is locked in a prison run by Michelle. My take is that Josh wasn’t molested as a kid, probably chanced across his parents having sex and became a bit of a voyeur from an early age. It probably turns him on and he either gets caught playing with himself, gets caught so stops because its Dugger wrong and moves on to the next option – his sisters, because by now he has developed a habit.

    • Vampi says:

      YAAASSSSSS!!
      So much THIS!

  41. Josephine says:

I don’t understand how the politicians that have rushed to support this family are also the exact same politicians who are always ranting about the Muslim faith. The Duggars have a lot in common with religious extremists of any kind – they treat women like dogs, and restrict their rights severely. People should be very frightened for this woman and her children. We don’t need to look to ISIS for horror stories – those horror stories are right here.

  42. Vampi says:

Just re-read the headline and and this song, sorta… popped into my head…
“Wasted away again In Duggaritaville…Turning ladies into to pillars of salt…My religion claims that the wooooman’s to blaaaame, but the world knows…we’re just a sickening cult”
    Yeah. I’m bizarrre.

  43. Anon says:

That’s not true about the Duggars not talking about sex, they talk about it all the time. They have code words for it. “hey, hey, hey!” Josh and Pa Duggar….big laugh. Michelle and Jim Bob talked about him “pounding on her cervix, getting it softened up for birth”….hey, hey, hey. (You sure do know how to keep the show going, Jim Bob…TLC producer) They are constantly talking about sex in some form. You want to know who else talks about sex constantly? Old man Robertson…loves to use the word “anal”. Phil makes references to his wife’s weight and tells his grandson’s to go for the ugly ones who can cook him up some good grub.

  44. KatyD says:

The phantom man in the sky said MEN rule over women, and therefore, THAT is the way you must live. Now obey, minions! Religious zealots bring so much chaos and destruction to their poor families. Jim Bob is nothing more than a narcissist who used his poor wife to birth him a cult he can rule over. Everyone looks brainwashed. Those poor kids have no chance to be independent individuals with thoughts of their own. They’re raised to be dependent and permanently warped. It’s incredibly disturbing. Even worse, reality tv has provided for and promoted these people as cute and cuddly Bible thumpers.

  45. Jane says:

Those kids need to be taken away from there. It’s dangerous for them.
As a mother I cannot even imagine leaving my children in the presence of this predator. If she’s not going to leave, who will look out for the babies?

  46. carol says:

“These people are profoundly stupid” made me laugh out loud! But its the perfect description of the Duggars, especially jim-bob.

  47. Miran says:

It’s pathetic how many people still support these freaks.
