Volunteer at Spring Fling
This event takes many volunteers to run smoothly. Do you have one hour to give to help make this huge event a success? Please visit the volunteer sign up site HERE. Sign up early to get the job of your choice! Thank you for volunteering!

Spring Fling Silent Auction!
The Spring Fling Silent Auction is just a few weeks away! Who will win the opportunity to be a Principal for a Day? Or enjoy an ice cream at Woody's with a 4th grade teacher? How about inviting some friends for a no-bake cookies cooking class with Mrs. Sottolano? And who will get to choose Mr. Sickmond's facial hair style (will it be Napoleon Imperial or Klingon?) In order to bid on these items, visit the library during the Spring Fling on Saturday, March 21st. Can't make it? Ask a friend to bid for you! Questions, please contact Teresa LeMair.

Spring Fling Jewelry, Hostess Gift, and Craft/Hobby Sale
Have you ever received jewelry or a hostess gift that you already have or can’t use? Do you have left over beads, bits and pieces of craft stuff or a model rocket or such? How about donating it to the Spring Fling Sale? All the proceeds go to the school’s PTA. The sale takes place during the school’s Spring Fling on Saturday, March 21st. Donations will be accepted until Friday March 20th. If you have any questions, contact Karen Gaughan at 703-698-5779 or allgone@cox.net

Heritage Showcase and Literacy Night
Parents! Mark your calendar for Mantua’s Annual Heritage Showcase and Literacy Night on Thursday, March 26th. Families of Mantua will be displaying and sharing their different culture heritages from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the gym. The classrooms will open from 7:00-8:00 p.m. for students to show you about the literacy that is happening inside.  Specialists will be lining the downstairs hallway to share, Mrs. Lorenzi will be discussing Digital Literacy in the library, and Ms. Dunfee will be available to help with Blackboard accounts. Because your child will be your tour guide, it is important that they attend with you. We look forward to seeing our Mantua families!

Raccoon Runners

Mantua Raccoon Runners is a positive youth development program for girls and boys in 3rd-6th grades. This program will empower young boys and girls to be true to themselves through lessons in positive body image, health and nutrition, and social awareness. This will all be done while we strengthen ourselves through various fitness activities as we train for a 5K run. Any student is eligible to participate.

The Raccoon Runners is a six- week program that will meet before school. The Girls team will meet Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8:00-8:50 a.m. in the gym starting on Monday, March 23rd. The Boys team will meet on Tuesday and Friday mornings from 8:00-8:50 a.m. in the gym starting Tuesday, March 24th. Both teams will start the mornings with some sort of physical activity. Exercise will consist of a variety of activities, such as yoga, boot camp, strength training and flexibility, and 5K conditioning. After our workout and stretch, the students will have a healthy snack while we cover our lesson for the day. There will be a new lesson each time we meet.  Lessons will cover a variety of subjects including health and nutrition, safety, hygiene, emotions, team building, self-esteem, gratitude, and social issues.

The season will end on May 9th with both teams participating in Mantua’s Raccoon Run.  You can find information about the Raccoon Runners program and a permission slip HERE. Please contact Meri Farling with questions.

Colonial Day Parent Meeting
Hear ye! Hear ye! Anyone interested in lending a hand with Colonial Day, there will be an interest meeting on Thursday, March 19th from 4:15-4:45 p.m. in Room 14 (Ms. Warner’s class.) We will be outlining the needs we have for our big event: materials that we would like to have donated, materials that may need to be put together, or jobs that will need to be filled on the day. Colonial Day is set for May 6th and is an all-day event for the entire 4th grade with jobs ranging from chaperoning classes, helping with colonial centers, or serving the colonial lunch. Even if you think that you just want to donate supplies, please join us to learn how you and your family can help!

Sixth Grade Party Chair(s) Needed

The Mantua 6th Grade Award Ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 18th. The Award Ceremony is in the morning and, once the ceremony is over, the party committee sets up the gym for a party that includes all of the sixth graders! There is a DJ, photos, cake, prizes and more. It takes a lot of volunteers to make the party a success, and it all begins with a chair(s). If you are interested in chairing this event, please contact Teresa LeMair.

Frost Middle School BINGO Night
The annual Frost Bingo Night, sponsored by the Frost MS PTA, is Friday, March 20th.
