Scott Derrickson is directing the film, which tells the story of neurosurgeon-turned-sorcerer Stephen Strange (Cumberbatch). Tilda Swinton also stars as Strange’s mentor, the Ancient One, and Chiwetel Ejiofor will play the villainous Baron Mordo. Stuhlbarg has been seen most recently in the Danny Boyle-directed, Aaron Sorkin-penned Steve Jobs as Apple engineer Andy Hertzfeld and will appear in the upcoming biopic Trumbo opposite Bryan Cranston. He has also had roles in the Coen brothers’ A Serious Man, HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, and the Bobby Fisher biopic Pawn Sacrifice. The Hollywood Reporter, which was first to report news of the Doctor Strange negotiations, says Stuhlbarg’s role in the film is being kept under wraps. Doctor Strange is slated to hit theaters Nov. 4, 2016.
