Make Me Believe Kindle Edition
Kissing? No way. That’s far too intimate.
It’s my one rule: no kissing. At twenty-three, I haven’t willingly allowed another set of lips to touch mine. Most of my hook-ups don’t seem to mind, and I prefer it that way. I don’t want closeness. Only satisfaction.
But then I meet Daniel. He’s such a geek, and definitely not the kind of guy I normally take an interest to. He’s shy. He’s quiet. And every time he smiles, my heart gallops, and it freaks me out. He’s breaking down my walls, getting closer, tempting me to break my rule...
Will he be my first kiss?
Or will he discover my truth and run the other way?

It's quite a heartwarming tale of the two of them facing their demons, esp Emma. The relationship that develops is beautifully written & very touching. At times a bit drawn out but other than that a wonderful journey for the two of them. The added epilogues are a great bonus. It brings it all to a happy conclusion.

Do opposites attract? Can a shy geeky virgin be the one to sweep a feisty sassy tattoo beauty off her feet and make her believe that she is worthy of love? In Make Me Believe, Ms. Ferry takes her readers on emotional journey of sweet, pure, raw, beautiful love. This book was able to weave friendship, healing, second chances and steam with the story of Daniel and Emma. Daniel is not your typical alpha dominant hero. Nope, he's simply your geeky virgin hero who has a heart of gold. And this geeky hero was able to make you heart swoon and heal the broken pieces of your heart. And that's what he did for Emma.
Emma is the complete opposite of Daniel. Sex was used as an outlet for her to escape her demons and past. It was her way to feel numb that is until Daniel showed her what it truly meant to slow down. The relationship between these two was a slow burn that really emphasized two people getting to know each other, walls breaking down, and matters of the heart being treasured. What Ms. Ferry did was allowed her readers to feel the gambit of emotions that Emma was feeling from love, happiness, truth, hope, and respect. She allowed Emma to see beyond meaningless sex but true deep friendship that blossomed to a real caring and healthy relationship. Once the walls of Emma's heart was exposed, Ms. Ferry was able to turn up the heat and steam between Emma and Daniel. And let me just say, this geeky virgin hero was a fast learner. (wink)
So if you are looking for a book where emotions are tangible, palpable, and raw then look no further than Make Me Believe by Karen Ferry. Ms. Ferry did an amazing job for her debut book highlighting and showcasing that love indeed heals. The power of love is an amazing feeling and for any romance junkie, Karen really does make you believe. So believe me when I say, that this book was an addictive sweet read that will spellbind you when two unlikely opposites find themselves on a collision course of love.

'Make Me Believe' was an incredible read. One about a girl (Emma Davenport) and a boy (Daniel) who bumped into one another on a train, literally!
Their journey would be a difficult one. From forming friendships, to working together and generally building trust. Both Emma and Daniel have had their share of difficulties growing up but would they be able to let each other in?
Excerpt:
I want to know who the real Emma is...the one I know is there, hiding behind all that heavy makeup and the piercings
Who is this girl?
Emma and Daniel seem the most unlikely of partners. Emma, with a mask of heavy make up, lip piercing, and sexual confidence. Whilst Daniel, the "Preppy" school boy, who was Dysklexic, very inexperienced when it comes to sex and generally quiet and shy in nature.
But they both have a lot more in common as we learn...
Excerpt:
"If fate truly existed, certain things wouldn't happen to really good people."
The dreams that Emma relives, is what brings the unlikely duo to one another. Flatmates, work colleagues and student/tutor relationships make for hilarious readings, but their physical attraction to one another grows throughout. As does their confidence with one another.
Excerpt:
..when she breaks, I'll be there, helping her stand tall and proud again. Seeing her tears, the sadness and fear in her eyes nearly unmanned me...Somehow, some way, Emma
Has managed to dig herself deeper and deeper into my soul.
Daniel is so incredible. And a real inspiration. Despite being dyslexic, his attitude and appreciation of books, work and learning knows no bounds. He truly is a brilliant character who I fell in love with.
Excerpt:
Why must I still be labelled as the kind of guy who won't be able to amount to much?
...Great things are worth fighting for -- and nobody will be able to stop me Sent from my iPad
Oh this is one of those books I could rant about all night, but it's much more than a story, it's a harrowing tale of trust (broken and regained), strength and resilience, friendship and love and happily ever afters. It just goes to show us that our "fairytales" really can come true..
Final Excerpt:
He taught me to trust again...he taught me the true meaning of love.
But, above all, he taught me to believe in dreams again.

There are things that I wished were different, most were minor. Regarding minor things, on more than one occasion Emma talked about Daniel buying new clothes. She discussed in detail the type of clothes he wore and eventually strong armed him into doing it because she disliked his clothes. We are told they went on an all day shopping trip. However after it happened no descriptions were given of the clothes he bought. There was no visual picture of his new clothes yet his "before" clothes she discussed in detail. Also there was no reaction from other people when seeing Daniel in new clothes that supposedly made him more appealing. Girls flirted with him before his new look and yet none afterwards. If some event is going to occur and is mentioned on more than one occasion, it seems important and so when the thing happens, it should be described. Emma's clothes, by contrast, were described in detail on more than one occasion.
Some of the story was from Daniel's point of view, which I liked as it showed some of his thoughts and feelings. Daniel was in love with Emma and fearful of losing her. Sometimes he showed alpha tendencies while making love, which I liked as did Emma. He became commanding and more possessive while they were having sex. Unfortunately the author missed opportunities for him to show that outside of the bedroom, which I thought would have upped the passion level, making their relationship seem more intense. For example, Emma runs into the former hook up mentioned above. He is one of her one night stands who wanted a relationship with her. He gives her a tattoo. However, Emma never tells Daniel about the encounter nor did he see it. If she told him or he saw it, some of that possessiveness would have been been shown outside of them having sex, it would be felt. In fact if Daniel displayed more possessive as well as displayed jealous then I could have recommended this story to an Amazon reading thread I belong to, the crazy in love, jealous, possessive heroes. Unfortunately I could not as he did not.
SPOILERS SPOILERS BELOW
Somethings happened that were unrealistic. For example, the fact that Emma never let anyone kiss her and yet had a lot of sex with a lot of men did not make sense. Given what happened to her, it would be more realistic if she was unable to have sex with anyone else or even have men touch her in any way opposed to just not wanting men to kiss her. What occurred scarred her and as a result she changed and started to act out. This essentially was ignored by her family. It was obvious that her behavior after the event was a cry for her and yet nothing was really done about it. Also her family did not try to do much when they found out what occurred. Their lack of help was not realistic considering her mother's profession regardless of how late it was when it was disclosed. Also the nature of the perpetrator's relationship with her brother was unlikely given what occurred. Also her mother, who is supposedly educated, being upset that her daughter would not talk to her about her nightmares yet would talk to a psychologist was moronic. It made her mother seem stupid to react that way. That is what counselors are for - they are parties who are removed from the relationship who are in position to give professional advice and help. I am a mother whose children are in counseling. I am relieved that they are getting the help they need as opposed to being upset that they are confiding in a psychologist as opposed to me. It is about them as opposed to me and yet Emma's mother was selfishly making it about her, which was hurting Emma as opposed to helping her.

My only criticism was that Emma is British and there were a few too many American references: dang it, jack-off etc.
But anyone who likes this genre should read this book.
