Love is just a word until someone enters your life and gives it meaning.

"No"
One word.
Two letters.
But those two letters changed everything.
It was impossible to predict the impact I would have on the life of the only woman I'd ever truly loved. No way to know that I would result in her ruin.
I’d suffer for eternity with the knowledge that it was me who brought devastation to her doorstep.
Though I deserved the anguish I felt, to see her suffer was unacceptable.
I would fix this.
Somehow I would prove to her that I wasn't the monster she thought I was.
Even if it meant becoming a monster in order to make that happen.

After the shocking finale of 'Hook', there was no way that I was going to wait a single minute before diving into 'Burn'. I was shattered and I had to see what was in store for a heartbroken Emily. Like the first book, this one was a page-turner. I was consumed with this story.

Without giving too much away, I'll say that Emily spends much of this book completely devastated. Marco betrayed her in the worst way, wrecking her world. Now, she lives only for revenge.

The events that transpired have left her a changed woman. No longer is she the warm, kind-hearted woman that I grew to love in the first book. She has had her soul ripped out. She's cold, calculating and angry. She is unrecognizable, compared to the woman she was months prior.

While Marco lives with the guilt of his actions, he continues down the same path that he was on. He has more secrets than I'd ever imagined. They cost him dearly, as he loses Emily and is forced to watch from the sidelines as she repeatedly places herself in danger. He crossed a line and there may not be any coming back for him.

Little by little, the pieces start to come together. Marco's secrets come to light and cast a new light on the situation. I'm still not sure if his actions were forgivable, but at least I finally understood his motivations.

This book also has several twists along the way. Although I didn't find most of them to be big surprises, I was glad that they happened. If they hadn't been written in, I don't think that Marco would have been salvageable for me.

Overall, this was a great conclusion to this duo. I enjoyed every minute of Emily and Marco's story. It was emotional, sexy and kept me on the edge of my seat. I look forward to reading more of this author's work in the future.

The lies and half-truths splintered my fragile heart into jagged pieces of glass that ripped me apart from the inside out. The eyes of the man I thought loved me bore down from above, and the realization hit that he was the one responsible.
He did this.
My heart was a kiln that hardened my despair and transformed it into a rage so monstrous it couldn’t be contained. I’ve been forged in fire and born anew.
He would pay.
They all would.
I’d burn this whole cesspool of a city to the ground until I’d exacted revenge on all of them.
Every. Single. Fucking. One.

Well, this is how the first installment in The Duplicity series ended and I have to say that I was dying to know what was going to happen next. BURN picked up right where Hook ended with both Marco and Emily in absolute hell. Emily was beyond heartbroken, her world shaken to its core and determined to settle the score and exact revenge.

Devastated, spiraling into a deep depression and caring about nothing anymore, the only thing that brings Emily back from the despair raging through her blood, is to focus all of her energy on the plan she elaborated to make the ones responsible pay.

« Once I set my plans in motion, there would be no turning back, and there would be no room for remorse on my part. I would need to steel myself and become as vicious and hardened as the men I was going up against if I had any chance of pulling this off. And so I let the fractured pieces of my soul fall apart on my shower floor until the water ran cold, at which point I pieced myself back together. The glue wouldn’t hold. I knew that. It didn’t need to. It just needed to stick together until I’d exacted my revenge."

Marco’s world is equally shaken. With Emily, his life was everything he wanted it to be until the tragedy strikes. Crushed and with his heart ripped out, Marco wants to know what went wrong, to make things right for Emily. Overwhelmed by the constant guilt eating away at his insides and longing for the one person’s forgiveness he loves more than anything, Marco is determined to overcome all the hurdles and to get Emily the answers she deserved regardless of what the future held for the two of them. But will Marco ever manage to get it when some things just weren’t worthy of forgiveness?

I truly enjoyed this book for the most part, but I cannot say I loved it. Mainly because in this one it took me a long while to warm up to Emily. The horrific tragedy she went through turned her into a cold, dark, angry, vengeful woman. She has her reasons, valid reasons. But I found some of her actions too extreme which deeply hurt Marco in the process (il mio tesoro!). Then again, I understand she was under grievous circumstances and completely blinded by her need for revenge but I absolutely disliked what she did to him, nevertheless.

"Each step took me further and further away from the woman I used to be and closer to the person I had to become in order to make this happen. Every moral code—and I did have them despite my occupation—had to be thrown to the wayside.

Burn was not all bows and ribbons, far from it. It was not easy in parts, but it was real. The pacing worked for me and I like that it skipped ahead when it needed to, established the timeline and paused at the appropriate times to give us a feel for what was happening inside these characters - the anger, the frustration, the hurt, the sorrow, the desire, the love and the loss. It's hard to leave feedback without giving away any of the plot so all I will say is, if you want a well-written book full of drama with some twists and turns, a real mindf**k at times that will keep you on edge, then this is it. Overall rating 3.5 stars.

It's so hard to leave a review of this amazing book without giving away too much. The best I can do is to say that this story went in a direction I was totally not expecting. Twists and turns, suspense, angst... it was an incredible ride. I will be thinking about these characters and their story for a long time to come.

SPOILER FREE – well I will try. But I could quote the shite out of this book it was that bloody brilliant. I highlighted so much. Thinking oh that is good and oh I can use that alas I can’t or maybe I will. Read on to find out.

I was so pissed at the end of book one that the only questions that came to mind were.

Was it worth saying no, Marco? Was it? What was worth so much for that outcome? Why would you do that?

I’d burn this whole cesspool of a city to the ground until I’d exacted revenge on all of them. Every. Single. Fucking. One.

To the heroine – right along with you there sweetheart. Where is my Samurai sword and oh give me a gun and we’ll do a lot of damage.

But then…..

Yes this is another damn dear letter.

Dear Elisabeth,

May I call you Elisabeth? Yes/No? Well I'm going to anyway. To answer your question.

Was it possible to write about an inherently good person doing bad things and have readers root for her?

Yes Elisabeth you did. Every step of the way I was rooting for the heroine. I'm still rooting for her now. And to be honest I think that this is one heroine that I won’t forget this year. On top of that you made me like Marco, how dare you! After what happened in the first book how could you take away the hate I had for him. I needed him to pay for Brandi more than anyone else. My world was flipped upside down.

Your very irritated fan Kate.

I was also so nervous to start this book. With questions of will I like this book? Will it be on par with the first one? Can it be topped? What if I’m devastated with the outcome and I can’t give it the stars that they deserve. But my fears were taken from me.

4.5 ‘Anger and frustration. Hurt and sorrow. Love and loss’ Stars

This book picks up exactly where the first one stopped.

We find out Brandi’s real name.

“Emily I whispered. Recognition lit his eyes, swallowed swiftly by gratification. He knew the significance of what I’d given him. “My real name is Emily Ross.”

The unimaginable has happened, worlds have broken down only to collide at a velocity that neither MC ever saw coming. It comes down to trust and in the end trusting the wrong people.

It was then that comprehension dawned. The expression on her face…it wasn’t just the pain […] It was betrayal.

For the love of Marco Valenti I didn’t see that coming. Marco, Marco, Marco what have you gotten yourself into?

Both characters felt betrayal, the lies, the anger the despair the isolation. It’s true what they say that there is a fine line between love and hate.

“You don’t hate me, Tesoro. You hate the fact that you still want me, and I’m going to prove it to you.”

I’d let her know that she was mine regardless of who she fucked. […….] She wouldn’t be able to sleep with another man without finding them lacking.

And I was on that journey with them every step of the way. What they felt I felt.

Marco becomes a different man with more edge and hardness to him but those kind of things shape a person. We see a visible and believable change in him.

The metamorphis from man to monster occurred in that precise moment.

They each change through what they experienced. Marco for the better in my opinion but Emily? Not so much. Revenge and vengeance consume them both and they each deal with it differently.

“Careful, cara. The revenge you seek may very well be your destruction.”

But at the same time the unwanted. Reality kicks in. Blame is laid at the feet of others or one’s self.

It would be a fair trade for my failure to protect […….] from the wolf with a lover’s tongue.

They deal with losing what they lost and figuring out how they could get it back.

For one brief moment, I’d known true happiness…. Even if it had been a lie.

All I wanted was for this woman to love me as she had for a brief moment in time.

Marco did anything to earn back what he had but lost.

There was only one person’s forgiveness I longed for, and I wasn’t sure I’d ever manage to get it. Some things just weren’t worthy of the forgiveness.

But with all Emily’s feelings impacting him he never gave up and he was strong and always knew to say the right thing.

“Amore mio, some rocks turn to dust under pressure. You have transformed into a diamond.”

There are so many emotions running through me right now that it is hard to process them all at once. You have to read the first book to enjoy this one. Let me just get one thing straight though. This book is outstanding. I felt as if I read a completely different book to the first one. Ms. Grace is one talented cookie. It is rare that with a two part book you can get so many different facets at times I felt as if it was written by someone else that is how good she is.

I had one seed left that I was keeping close to me truly with the hope of what I wanted to be true. At the worst of times Ms. Grace managed to coax a smile out of me.

And then the story twists and turns again. WTF? I didn’t see that coming.

My heart cracked a bit because she was on a downward spiral and some of the things that she did. They each lash out at one another and say some truly horrible things.

With space and time and slowly acquainting one another again. With trust built etc. HE proved his worth. Emily not as much as Marco but she did as well.

“I love you Marco Valenti. Truth is, I never stopped. And I never will.”

I realised that sometimes dreams don’t come in the form you thought they would. It doesn’t make them any less amazing. The universe just knew what you needed better than you did.

The End.

Completely ruined, terrible sequel

Where do I start? There will be spoilers but I will give you the truth. This author has ruined, shamed and defiled a character that I was willing to accept in the first book. Emily may have been a hooker but she took care of herself and had morals. Now she is every definition of sl#t. Shamefully this author has made her grief an exercise in having s#x with just about everyone including a particularly degrading party for the very man she believes killed her son! I don't know why this author thinks that this was in any way a form of revenge AT ALL. Vito humiliated her at the party, she publically "performs" for Vito and his men and she sleeps with quite a few people to get "revenge" but really these acts don't get her anywhere. She has turned herself into a person that should be ashamed to call herself a mother. Its a ridiculous story line. Oh yeah she has s#x with Marco again after doing who knows how many men at a party at Vito's ...like the next day. Of course the author used the tired old "I was so attracted to him" plot device as to why she slept with the man she supposedly hated!! This story was ruined right there. Emily is now beyond redemption as well, she loses all sympathy. Why does this author think this is getting revenge?! seriously?! Parading around naked at a s#x party in front of the man who kidnapped and killed your son? No one thinks that sounds totally disrespectful and ridiculous? Seriously for a woman who is supposed to be feeling so much grief she is doing a lot of sleeping around. The excuse is of course "I'm doing it to get close to Vito so I can kill him." Ugh. Stupid. I was looking for some real revenge not degradation of Emily passed off in this authors lame attempt at revenge. And why is Marco such a total wimp? I thought he was going to be this monster out for blood but...nope. He's just running around in circles having Emily followed and stomping around and throwing objects out off frustration because Emily is sleeping with half of the scum bags in town. So what does he do? Well the most logical thing he can of course....go and demand angry s#x from Emily to prove she still "desires" him. Like THAT is what he should be doing to find out what happened to Daniel. Makes TOTAL sense. Give me a break Ms. Grace. Why is that scene even in the book? To further prove Emily has become a true who#e? Marco is way too busy being jerked around by the FBI and acting like their good little puppy, kissing and seducing women to get evidence for what purpose again??? We are never really sure. Oh ...and Daniel is not dead which is THE only good part of this book. So why was Emily turned into such a disgusting version of herself? What is the point of that? Did that prove she loved her son more? And the ending?! Really? As if the book needed yet another over done plot twist. Hint.....it didn't. Hint...we all knew Julien was crazy. Hint....Emily DID lead him on, she used him and disappeared without any thought. She should feel a little bad considering he was the only person willing to help her in her ridiculous scheme. Don't bother with this book and therefore this series, its overall disappointing and a waste of your hard earned money.

Can we all just agree that the ending of Hook made the wait for this book seem impossible at times? So here’s the deal – I can’t really say much about the story because of how book one ends – there is just way too much happening in book two that needs to be experienced, so let me just tackle the feels.

I loved this book. I was certain I had parts of this story worked out in my head – I was sure of it. And although I wasn’t completely wrong – it did not go as I planned. But boy did that give this story grit and so much more than I ever could have expected. There are parts of this story that might not make every reader happy, but I think for those that give into the experience, who give themselves over to Ms. Grace so that you get the story she needed these characters to tell, you will not be disappointed.

So many things happen throughout this story. It was not easy to read at times and most times it was heartbreaking to see things through Emily’s eyes and even more so through Marco’s.

I adored this book. I am a sucker for the ‘Pretty Woman’ hooker find love type story – but this was so much more than a story of a call girl who found love with a John. A thrilling, edge of your seat suspenseful romance that pulled no punches and worked your emotions into a frenzy from the very first page.

I loved 'Hook' it's one of those books that just worked for me and it's hard to review this book without giving anything away since everything I think of putting could spoil it so I'll just say it's an emotional read as the characters struggle to cope with the cliffhanger ending from the previous book.
After 'Hook' I did as I always do and I tried to predict what would happen and how this book would go, I'm sorry to say I got it right which doesn't happen often and disappointed me no end, even though I can't stop guessing I actually like to be surprised but despite this it a well written absorbing read.

Burn (Duplicity Duet #2) by Elisabeth Grace
4.5 stars!!

“…sometimes dreams don’t come in the form you thought they would. It doesn’t make them any less amazing. The universe just knew what you needed better than you did.”

Elisabeth Grace is evil, oh yes, this quiet unassuming author has a mean streak and it is long and wide. Elisabeth Grace certainly put my emotions through the proverbial wringer with Burn, so much so that I cannot really say anything about the story at all, everything is a spoiler.

After the ending of Hook, I was hooked. It has pained me to wait, but patiently I did and once Burn turned up on my kindle I had to dive in…earlier than I should have, but reading lists are made to be broken…right??

I thought I had it all worked out, this was one of those books where I was constantly thinking and rethinking trying to come up with plot lines, trying to foresee just trying to clamour any grain of sand I could to get the ending I was desperate for. But and this is a huge BUT, Elisabeth Grace makes us wait, takes us on a rollercoaster of a ride, rips you apart and slowly but surely gives you stitch by stitch to painfully put your decimated heart back together again. She was brutal.

“…I’m going to start with the person who pulled the trigger. Then I’ll deal with the person who was pulling the strings.”

Elisabeth Grace takes a route I never foresaw and was painful to read, but desperate times call for desperate measures and the love of a mother has no beginning and definitely no end. Grief is extremely painful and brutal, it can mar your common sense that can ultimately lead to rash and dangerous decisions and there were plenty in this book. My heart broke so many times, not just for the grief that Emily was overcome by but also Marco’s grief at not only losing the boy he considered a son but also the love of his life. I admired Marco’s tenacity and his “never give up” attitude that ultimately made this conclusion. He was an amazing book boyfriend and plenty of hearts will be enamoured by the man that Marco becomes in Burn.

“…the revenge you seek may very well be your destruction.”

This book was a thrilling climax in a totally enthralling series from Elisabeth Grace. Suspenseful, vengeful, emotional, believable no matter how hard it was to read, but love prevails. Wars are fought, life is lost but belief is the strongest weapon. Totally captivating, inherently addictive, I totally loved this duet and can highly recommend it.

“A life for a life.”

Now that I have completed the Duplicity Duet I will admit that I liked the story line. It has quite a sorted cast of characters and our heroine is one strong willed woman. I will suggest that if you read the series make sure you have the second book waiting when you finish the first one, it leaves you with one hell of a cliffhanger.

If Hook brought two people together in love, Burn tore them apart in flames.

Elisabeth Grace killed us, just killed us at the end of Hook. Okay, at least she did me. That ending tore me apart. TORE ME TO PIECES. And Burn picks up right where it left off. Emily is devastated. She loved and trusted Marco. Believed in him and with one word he completely shattered her world.

One single uttered word took everything Marco loved and treasured away. His life is torn upside down. Those he promised to protect have been destroyed. Now he will do everything in his power to deliver vengeance, even if it turns him into the man he never wanted to be. She is worth everything.

Pain, destruction, sadness, and heartbreak. Burn will make you feel every single one of those emotions. The web behind this story will keep you guessing at every turn. Who can be trusted and how far will each person go to obtain their goal?

I loved the suspense in the story. I do not want to give too much away, but at every turn we are surprised and at times, left heartbroken. The choices made are sometimes done for the right reason for the individual, but the cost is at times too great. I felt my heart break so much, especially during the first half.

In Hook I found Emily to be a strong woman. She did what she needed to do in order to ensure she was able to care for her son. Never regretting her choices, she moved forward and never looked back. Damn everyone else and what they think of her. But now, devastated, she swears to never trust again. She will avenge her loss at any cost. ANY COST. No one will get in her way. But what will it cost her and what will she have to endure? The strong woman is now made of steal.

Marco on the other hand was a man who was always in control. And now he finds himself in the hands of others and without what matters most to him. I loved him in Hook, but in Burn we see a different side of him. It makes him more vulnerable, but also more determined than ever. He will break down barriers for those he loves and when he has nothing else to lose, everyone better be afraid.

As Marco and Emily go down different paths, they will each suffer more than they ever imagined. Will they be able to find their way back to each other? Can such an unforgivable loss be forgiven?

I loved every minute of this book. Even the times I cursed and screamed. What a wild wide.

I give Burn by Elisabeth Grace 5-amazing stars. Happy reading!

~ 4.5 Stars~

This is going to be a hard review to write. Not because I didn't like it. Quite the opposite. I loved it. Burn picks up right after the mother of all f*ing cliffhangers in Hook. Thankfully the wait wasn't too long but it was still long for those of us that devoured Hook and wanted to know what happens immediately. So here we are, ready to dig the trenches to get the rest of the story. And what a dig it was.

I can't even give a recap without spoiling anything because it all directly ties to events that happens in Hook. So I'm just going to give my thoughts on different things and keep it as simple as I can.

When I read Hook, I was completely on the fence about Marco. He seemed almost too perfect and you just knew that he had to be hiding something. In my review for Hook, I said that I needed Burn to know the rest of the story so I could figure out if Marco was the man that I wanted him to be. I'm so happy to say that he is. I absolutely fell for him. Sure, he made some pretty terrible mistakes but once you know why he did what he does, he chips away at your ice cold heart towards him.

When certain events causes Emily to be on a huge spiral down and putting herself in danger, Marco never gives up on her. Their history is based on lies, deceit and betrayal yet is full of real love and passion. No matter what happens, he never gives up.

"Careful, cara. The revenge you seek may very well be your destruction."

This story is written so well and the characters were so developed that I easily become emotionally connected to them. Much more so then book one. I felt everything that Emily and Marco were going through and I understood both sides.

This was the perfect ending to a very sad yet beautiful and hopeful story of love conquers all. Well done, Elisabeth.

“If the love between us had once been pure white and Marco’s betrayal pitch black, the two colors had muddled together to produce an inky gray. Feelings of love and lust, pain and heartbreak all warred within me, leaving me feeling more lost and confused than ever.”

5 burn me stars!!! Erotically sexy and sinfully good!

I refuse to say much about this book because I don’t want to ruin it for anyone else, but let me say after the ending of book one, I needed book two desperately!!! And trust when I say, you won’t be disappointed with this book!!! It’s just as dirty, sexy and steamy as book one. I dropped everything I was doing when this book landed on my kindle, and I’m so glad I did. I was hooked and couldnt put it down!!! Another great book in the series!!

Finallllyyyyy!!!! Oh how I've been waiting on pins and needles for this book. It is book two so you really need to stop reading here if you haven't read book one. And go read book one now. You have to! They are both must reads for the year.

Emily is a bad ass chick. Revenge is better served sweet and boy does she serve it. I knew this was going to be action packed and super intense and I was right. Gahhh I love being right. Lol. Emily went from somewhat sweet and innocent to straight up bad ass momma bear on a mission. I cried for her pain. I couldn't imagine what she was feeling and hope I never have to as a mother. But instead of wallowing she pulled her self up and jumped into action. Revenge. Against anyone who hurt her. She's a strong fierce woman and will do what ever is necessary to make her plans come to life. Marco be damned. An intense love like they had completely shattered to bits. This broke my heart. I wanted to scream.... okay maybe I did a little and got the stink eye from coworkers. But it was soooo worth it.

Marco is on a mission himself. Only he's working on getting Emily back and revenge for her. Even though she's pushed him away he still loves her completely. He really is a perfect man. Omg. He's hot and sexy and when he's determined.... he's down right deadly. Bad ass through and through. I love him even more after this book. And I didn't think that was possible.

These books are two of the best I've read all year and definitely will be rereading because they are just that damn good. Don't miss out on these. They're amazing. Action packed sexy twists and turns ups and downs. Just simply perfect.

I think in my review of book 1 of this duet I said something like - this is so much more than what the synopsis and the title refer to....I thought book 1 was a very sweet romance, aka more like pretty women. So lets just say this book, part 2 of the duet was everything a hooker's life is made of and definitely more like the movie, Leaving Las Vegas. Almost to the point where the story was unbelievable or just sad and desperate. So - I just didn't enjoy this very much and it was a long 10 days of reading...and skimming. 2 stars for the scenes in Sorrento!

BURN is no Cinderella or Pretty Woman!
knew this story was going to be good. What I didn’t know was this: I was going to be hooked into an awesome story with a different twist than expected. Everything you think is going to happen, won’t happen!

A Prostitute and a billionaire falling in love with each other. Sounds familiar right? You are not going to read a sweet and innocent romance. You are going to find two people who will be drawn into happiness and betrayal. Its obvious when Marco stipulates he will be her one and only client while in Vegas. Even with all his billions, he realizes money will not fix all his problems and his heart.

Brandi is very good at her job! She is damn good at her job. And when Marco Valenti, an Italian businessman, decides to hire her to help pass the time away while in Vegas, he gets more than he purchased. She is smart and attractive and that’s a dangerous combination for someone who has a lot to lose. Nevertheless, she is a business woman. As a business, she has managed to compartmentalized her job from the real person and her real world.

The Duplicity Series takes us into the backstreets of prostitution, the mob and government corruption. Everything you will need for a great mob romance without being a Mob Romance. With prostitution and Las Vegas as the backdrop of the story, it is filled with romantic romance and erotic sex. The author is excellent making the reader care and sympathize with Brandi and Marco. You want to fall in love with these two characters. You want the best for them. But at what cost?

However, BURN turns from igniting a romance to exacting revenge. Brandi has lost the most important thing in the world to her and she will make sure the people who are responsible pay – with their life. She realizes she can only depend on herself if she wants to survive. She fights back in the only and best way she knows how. Sex is all about power and she needs that power to get her close to her target. However, along the way of plotting revenge she manages to put her life in more danger than she anticipates.

BURN is realistic and cold. Prostitution is not romanticized. This is the reason why I love this story so much. It could have been a campy romance about the billionaire falling in love with the prostitute underline with saccharine sweetness and romance. Instead, it’s a romance that you will enjoy reading with a lot of frightening angst. The romance will take you through feelings of joy, happiness, love, denial, betrayal and revenge. A perfect combination you must check out and enjoy.

After reading Hook, I experienced one of the greatest cliffy hangover I’ve ever had. I felt like I was going to be free-falling, unsure of what to feel, until I’ve read Burn . And when I did, man, was I blown away! Elisabeth Grace shredded this story with an all-out angsty , suspenseful fill that had me on the tip of my toes!

“Amore mio, some rocks turn to dust under pressure. You have transformed into a diamond.”

A mother bereft of a son is like an angel bereft of her goodness. If Emily did everything to keep her son alive, now, Brandi would make sure everything who touched him will burn. It was both heartbreaking and epic to watch Emily strut with revenge. There were hard-to-read scenes in the book that made it essentially poignant. Emily’s pain and selfless love were both palpable, driving the already angst-filled plot with a more gripping streak. I loved this woman’s courage.

“You don’t hate me, tesoro. You hate the fact that you still want me, and I’m going to prove it to you.”

The only way to break Marco was to break the family he’s come to love. And to see them wither in their own way killed the remaining compassion he had in his heart. He played the pawn before, now he will unleash a beast they will never forget. It was amazing how felt Marco’s tenderness (and hotness) was even when he was seeking for vengeance. Even when he wanted to avenge, there was a distinct part of him that gave off his good heart. And that marvelous mix of sturdy, dependable alpha, and affectionate, loyal man was utterly consuming.

“Sei diventata il mio mondo.”
“You became my entire world.”

The grip I felt at the end of Hook was successfully sustained when I started reading Burn. The intense run of Elisabeth Grace’s words seeped right into my skin, making every scene so raw and fully felt. There were scenes that are so hard to read but those just really added to the unique experience this book brought. It was suspenseful, raw, angsty, emotional, and genuine all at the same time! Burn was a consuming read; a break from the ideally-driven romantic suspense, but a bone-deep romance all the same.

"Careful, cara. The revenge you seek may very well be your destruction"

Burn is the epic conclusion to the Duplicity Duet series by Elisabeth Grace. We pick up right where we left off in book #1, Hook. We are seconds after the phone call. After the gun shot. After the death, no, the murder of Daniel, the awesome young son of our heroine, Emily Ross aka Brandi.

Emily, understandably, is distraught, her whole world has just imploded. Her son is dead. He, the only reason she hooked. Her reason for existence. Now gone. After a scare separation from reality. She is aware and ready to do what needs to be done to all that are responsible. Even the man she loved, the man she thought loved her, Nico. Who know turns her blood to venom when she looks at him.

"I’d find out who did. And I’d make them pay. With their lives. Even if it cost me my own"

After being crushed with her new world reality, she is forced to shower and man up. She has a mission to accomplish.

"And so I let the fractured pieces of my soul fall apart on my shower floor until the water ran cold, at which point I pieced myself back together. The glue wouldn’t hold. I knew that. It didn’t need to. It just needed to stick together until I’d exacted my revenge"

She is going after the man responsible. The men responsible. That means using her asset, herself, to get what she want. She leaves her safe escort boss to go work for the one who will get her access to the man she needs, the one she intends to kill. Thrown back into the life she is trading sex for favors and also having to humiliate herself to get closer to accomplish her goal.

At the same time Nico is doing everything, separately and without knowledge of her plan, to ease her pain and extract his own revenge for the killing of a boy he was starting to view as a son, a boy he loved and all for the woman who owns his heart.

Wow what a ride, great series, great characters. Epic twist. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!!

'The man I loved had betrayed me.'

I love Elisabeth Grace's books but Hook left us all with the cliffy to end all cliffy's and I was personally worried how everything could be fixed and resolved. The worst thing that could happen happened and moving on from that seemed impossible. Yet, from the beginning of Burn I was pulled in and even when the book got to the darkest of places I was still optimistic that Emily and Marco would find a way to come together.

"Careful, cara. The revenge you seek may very well be your destruction."

Going over plot in this series is impossible as it seems like everything is a spoiler. But after everything goes down in Hook everything changes and the stability and normalcy that Marco and Emily seemed to be working towards is over and Emily is back to making hard decisions. She has to do some things that honestly turned my stomach a bit but were for the bigger picture. Even when I hated some of her decisions I could not seem to dislike her. Likewise, even though I should be blaming Marco for all that went down I still seemed to be rooting for him the whole time.

'But I was afraid, too. Afraid I'd fall too far and too fast like I had before. Afraid I'd end up decimated once more.'

Burn is dark and difficult but the love between Marco and Emily is timeless and impossible to resist. Even with every card stacked against them they are pulled toward each other. This series ruined me, my heart ached constantly in the best way possible. Elisabeth Grace is a phenomenal writer and I hope she explores more books in this style in the future.

This quote right here describes this series beautifully! "I realized dreams don't come in the form you thought they would. It doesn't make them any less amazing. The universe just knew what you needed better than you did." That being said this books picks right up where Hook ends and I couldn't wait to get my hands on it! I needed to know what happened and needed to know NOW! And like usual with Elisabeth I was not disappointed in the least! I won't really go into the storyline too much because I'm not about to give anything away but Emily and Marco go through a ton of twists and turns in this book. There are tears and broken hearts but there are also some beautiful parts of this story as well. One of the most important lesson I learned in this series has to do with said quote above. You have to do what you have to do in life to get to where you want to be! People make the choices they do because they need to in order to survive. But it all happens for a reason. This series was one of my favorite reads so far this year. There was suspense and love and those are my favorites when reading! This is a series you don't want to miss out on, that's for sure!!!

This was a great final part in this two part series.

It's going to hard to say anything about the plot without giving it away but all I will say was it was great. After how book 1 ended I really didn't know where this one would go. There are lots of twists and turns and a few heart stopping moments. For me however I felt a few parts were resolved a little quickly and I expected a little more drama from the involvement of certain characters.

The story was full of emotion there was heart-break, sadness, romance and lots of sizzling hot chemistry between the characters. Emily grew so much as a characters and I really connected with her character, near the beginning I had tears in my eyes from her pain.

Overall a great series and I loved the epilogue at the end which was a great conclusion and I ended the story with a great big smile on my face.

WARNING: Do not attempt to read this book without reading Hook first. This will make NO sense at all!!!

And with that warning being stated, this picks up immediately where Hook ends. There were TONS of twists and turns and my heart broke for both Emily and Marco. Emily had valid reasons for doing what she did, but it didn't make me like her. In fact, it kind of made me NOT like her. But in the end, it all worked out good.

*thanks to TRSOR and the author for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

This has to be a vague review because I don't want to give anything away and spoil the book. I will say you have to read book 1 because we pick up right from that heart stopping ending. The action and suspense never let up there is so much pain, heartache and anger you can feel the anger vibrating through every word and deed. I never expected the direction things would go in but that's what made it so good, Elisabeth really keeps the readers guessing just remember to expect the unexpected.

This picks up where the first book left off...which was a pretty big cliffhanger. Emily's son has been kidnapped and at the very end, there is a gun shot.

Lots of emotion and angst and pretty fast paced. Emily is devastated over the loss of her son and sets a plan in motion to get revenge on all of those involved. The plan is smart in theory, but I found myself in disbelief over some of the things that she had to go through.. not disbelief, as in, i don't believe it, but disbelief in the way that almost turns your stomach. Gone, was the heroine from the first book. This woman was on a mission and nothing was going to stand in her way.

Marco, blaming himself for all that happened to Daniel and Emily, is a shell of a man. Empty and numb. We learn more about Marco and the lengths that he is willing to go through and the things he will do for someone he loves. I felt bad for both characters...Things have a way of coming together. There is a twist in this one...two actually.

All in all a good duet pf books

AMAZING!!!! That is all I can say about Burn (Book 2 in the Duplicity Duet) by Elisabeth Grace.

I have been dying to read this book since that BRUTAL Cliffhanger in Book 1 Hook. This book couldn’t be released fast enough. But I will say it was well worth the wait.

This review is going to be on the shorter side, because I will not be discussing the storyline at all. If you have read Book 1, you know why I say this about Book 2. Anything that I could comment on or say about the story would completely spoil this story. So I plan to just tell you how I was feeling while reading this book.

My emotions and heartbeat were all over the place while reading Burn. Elisabeth had me smiling, laughing, crying, yelling and overall captivated!!! I couldn’t put this book down. Once I started this book, there was no stopping me. I was completely swept up in the story and the characters. The pace and flow of the story was spot on. Nothing dragged but I never felt like the story was rushed either.

Burn is told in Dual POV and I thought that was perfect. I honestly believe it is the only way this story could be told. I loved being in the head of both Marco and Emily. I will say that this book was such a different type of book, then I am used to from Elisabeth. She really outdid herself with this Duet. I am going to warn readers though and let you know, that there is some content in this book that could be slightly uncomfortable to read. I know I was squirming at times while reading this book. I can’t explain more than that because it would reveal too much, but just be aware, that there are some spots that won’t be easy to read for some.

Marco and Emily have to be one of my all time favorite couples. Both loyal, fierce, and loving. And their chemistry is off the charts HOT!!! I loved how both of them were protective of the ones they loved.

Burn was the book with all the answers. All the questions that were raised in Hook (Book 1) were answered in this book. To me this was the perfect ending to this Duet. It was everything I was expecting and more!!

So if you are a fan of an escort themed love story that has romance, suspense and mystery, then this is the Duet to read!! These books are definitely on my Best of 2016 list and ones I know I will read again in the near future. Pick these books up….you won’t be sorry!!!!
