I had a one-night stand. It wasn’t my first, but it would be my last.

A gun to the head.

A trained killer.

A deadly conspiracy.

Kidnapped and on the run, my life and death is in the hands of a sadist captor who happens to be my one-night stand. Armed with countless weapons, money, and new identities, the man I call Six drags me around the world.

The manhunt is on and Six is the next target. Can we find out who is killing off the Cleaners before they find us?

Two down, seven to go.

When it’s all over he’ll finish the job that dropped him into my life, and end it.

Stockholm Syndrome meets bucket list, and the question of what would you do to live before you died. The questions aren’t always answered in black and white. Gray becomes the norm as my morals are tested.

Death is a tragedy, and I’ll do anything to stay alive.

Are you ready for the last ride of your life? Six has a gun to your head—what would you do?

This isn’t a love story.

It’s a death story.

**Due to the dark and explicit nature of this book, it is recommended for mature audiences only as some scenes may be particularly disturbing.**

Monsters are real. And they have their own version of the world. I should know, I was kidnapped by one. Dragged down into the pits of their hell. Changed. Altered. Forced to do anything to survive.

I haven’t read a dark/captive romance in a while, I’ve been on my own little cloud of fluffy sweet romances and books that give me the feels. When I saw KI Lynn was writing something a little darker, I jumped on board! I love her writing and I was so excited to read Six. Dark, violent, even funny at times, and the hottest book I’ve read this year, Six is one you won’t want to miss out on!

 photo B765B08D-0233-4828-B889-A101AB78F9B5_zpsrt3mazex.jpg

The story was written all from our heroine, Paisley (or Lacey’s) POV. OMG being in her head was fantastic. She is snarky, feisty, fun and truly does make the best of this situation she’s in. I loved her attitude. She makes this dark read almost light at times. It gave it the perfect balance. And she is a total bad ass. She’s got strength, guts and determination. Paisley’s life changes after a one-night stand. When that one-night stand comes to her place of employment and kidnaps her. She’s on the run with her captor, Six, and it’s not a matter of if Six will kill her, it’s a matter of when.

Through all this, she holds strong. Sure, she’s terrified at times, but she really is tough deep down. She challenges Six at every turn, something he is not used to at all.

“Your life is mine,” he hissed into my ear. “There are consequences for disobedience. Remember that, because next time, I won’t be half as nice.”

Six was not a good guy. Every time I thought I saw some good in him, he would do something that would show me I was wrong. Lacey was wrong. He wasn’t good. I love that his character was consistent. Sure, there may have been tiny changes and softening along the way, but he was who he was. There were points I liked him, points I despised him, but by the end I was a fan of Six!

Six and Lacey together… I can’t even. You just need to read the book. If you’ve read any of Lynn’s other works, you know she brings the heat. This is no exception. Elevators, dressing rooms, gah! It’s a steamy overload. Those of you looking for a hot read, you’ve found it. It’s dark erotica at it’s finest.

Although throughout most of the book it was just Six and Lacey, there were other characters that made an appearance. Five being one of them. Five is a character I loved from the start. Sure, he’s a killer, too, but his personality is so damn lovable. I really hope we get a Five book because I would LOVE to read more about this man!

I books with anti-heroes in them- especially when you can’t tell if they have any good in them or not. I love feisty heroines who stand their ground. I love dark romances full of steam and excitement. If you like all that too, this is one you don’t want to miss out on! 5 stars!!!

Wow! This was my first book by this author, but for sure it won’t be my last because she totally blew me away with this thrilling, addictive read. In some way, 'Six' was like nothing I’ve read before. It was a great blend of suspense, action, steam and even a pinch of entertaining dark humor. Now, I have to say I really liked the premise, it was something new, intriguing and in my humble opinion it was done really well . The story was fast paced, pretty intense at times and for a captive story I found it to be very refreshing.

“Monsters are real. And they have their own version of the world. I should know, I was kidnapped by one. Dragged down into the pits of their hell. Changed. Altered. Forced to do anything to survive.”

Paisley’s life changes irrevocably when her one-night-stand turns out to be more than she had ever expected – a sociopath hitman, a ‘cleaner’ who next day after their sexy encounter comes where she works and kidnaps her. Paisley had valuable information about someone her captor, named Six wants to know everything about. On the run with her captor because apparently there is someone who wants the intriguing hitman dead, Paisley now Lacey (her new identity) tries to survive as best as she can.

“He was Alpha and Omega.
He was Six.
He was the most dangerous game.”

description

Six decides to keep Paisley/Lacey since she provides a better cover…for now, because he makes sure she knows he will kill her…eventually. Despite that, as times passes the relationship between them start to change and slowly, but surely the lines between captor and captive are blurred.

"What kind of monster are you?” She tried to help me, and he killed her. He killed them both. He stepped forward and yanked on my arm, pulling me up. “I’m your motherfucking monster. Get in the fucking car."

Dayum! What a crazy ride this one turned out to be! The story was very enthralling from the beginning and I have to say I had a blast being in our heroine’s head. The story was pretty violent, but not very graphic which was fine by me.

Six was an a$$hole. A mysterious, charming and alluring a$$hole who despite his actions and words was quite endearing and entertaining. However, I don’t think he’ll make you swoon anytime soon. He was definitely not a good man. I liked his portrayal as a calculated hitman who knows what and who he is. There were a few times when he showed “his human side”, but don’t expect for him to be your usual dreamy hero. Six was okay as a character, but I would have mined for me to be a little more talkative.

description

“Sarcasm was my nature. Bating the beast my fun. There was no stopping who I was, and that alone was bound to get me killed sooner rather than the never I dreamed of.”

Paisley was a fun heroine I liked from the very beginning. She was fierce and strong and even if she fell for her captor a little too easily for my liking, I really liked her character. I loved her sense of humor, her snarky remarks and also her determination to do everything to stay alive no matter what.

Paisley and Six’s strange relationship development was done pretty well. Their interactions were fun at times and a little scary other times and I really enjoyed them.

As for the steam aspect, I really like it. The sexy scenes between them were scorching hot, intense and well written.

Overall, a great, entertaining read!

Well, this book was certainly different! If you're looking for a sweet, heartwarming story, this isn't it. Likewise, if you're in the mood for a tortured hero with darker urges that has redeeming qualities, keep looking. You won't find any rainbows or unicorns here.

Paisley is a technician, working in the medical examiner's office. After a steamy one night stand, she finds herself staring down the barrel of a gun. She's taken hostage by the very same man that she'd spent the previous night with. All of her coworkers are murdered and her workplace is blown up.

From that point forward, the story follows Paisley during her captivity. She moves from place to place with Six, a ruthless assassin. Frequently, he reminds her of the fact that he plans to kill her soon. He uses her for sex and to help maintain his cover, but never lets her forget how disposable she is.

As the story progresses, Paisley finds herself developing feelings for her captor, despite all rational thought. Although Six never admits it, it is clear that he feels something for Paisley also. The two are an odd couple, for sure. Picture a sociopathic Bonnie and Clyde pair.

This book had a lot of action and even more sex. It played out kind of like--murder, sex, repeat. While the sex was certainly steamy, it did begin to feel gratuitous after awhile. I began to skim a little because it did start to seem repetitive and the storyline didn't seem to be moving along.

I have to admit that I did have trouble connecting with the characters at first. Paisley didn't appeal to me in the beginning, coming across as a bit crass. However, they grew on me.

Overall, this was a great story. It was different from the other dark romance/erotica works that I've read. It was action-packed and very suspenseful.

I wanted something fun, something suspenseful with a movie-worthy plot. And my wish came true.

If you decide to give this book a try, get ready for: lots of action, hot as sin hitmen, a kick ass and mouthy heroine, a cold and ruthless hero, moments of laugh and some use-me-and-abuse-me shit hot scenes. Just don’t expect flowery stuff or sugary “I love yous” because you won’t find them here.

"Six was not a nice guy. Six was a monster."
description

SIX is a stunning dark and delicious stand-alone romance by the crazy talented K.I. Lynn. From the first word to the last, every moment is charged with action, intrigue, and suspense.
description
"My mind began to go blank from the rough fucking I was getting. I was nothing but a fuck doll. Used. Abused. Fucked out of anger and control."
Paisley Warren is a lab tech who works hard in her field. Working crazy hours in the morgue hasn't left her much time to play. When she spends one night out on the town with her co-workers, she meets a sexy stranger. One thing leads to another and the two share one unforgettable night of passion. Her one night of passion is the beginning of the end for Paisley Warren.

description
"Somehow, he sped up his assault, fucking me harder and faster. Destroying my pussy for anyone else."
SIX is a trained killer. He is ruthless and meticulous about his job. When he is sent to the Hamilton County Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Cincinnati, he comes face to face with his one-night stand. Because she has the information he needs, he kidnaps her. SIX is attracted to Paisley but because he is a man on a mission, she becomes a means to an end. As soon as she reveals what she knows, he is going to kill her. Six is twisted and hard and yet, Paisley isn't willing to bend. Despite being chained and held captive by him, Paisley is drawn to Six like a moth to a flame. When tension rises, and someone is out there trying to take out Six, he transforms Paisley and gives her a new persona "Lacey." Lacey and Six together become a force to be reckoned with. With plenty of passion, violence, and action, Lacey and Six begin to fall hard and fast for each other. But when all is revealed, will SIX follow through with his promise of killing Lacey or will he want to keep her by his side forever?

description
"For the rest of your life, you're mine."
Told in Paisley's POV, SIX is absolutely flawless. The characters are complex, the plot is expertly constructed with twists and turns throughout. The relationship between Six and Lacey is unique, and the transformation that takes place between the two is like nothing I have ever read before. I am always drawn to the dark and SIX certainly delivers. Lacey was a perfect match for SIX and the fact that she discovered that before he did made it even more exciting. The intimacy between SIX and Paisley transforms from raw sex to a passionate bond full of affection and a twisted understanding. Like a blockbuster movie unfolding before my eyes, I had no idea WHAT was going to happen next and I could not tear my eyes away! The tension drives the action, and no one is safe!
description
Overall, SIX is an absolute MUST READ NOW for Contemporary Romance Fans who enjoy their heroes dark, the passion raw and dynamic, non-stop action, and unforgettable characters. I have long been a fan of K.I. Lynn and her broad spectrum of work. She is a master storyteller, and SIX might just be my new favorite K.I. Hero (and if you have met WESTON and NATHAN than you know that says a lot!). I look forward to more greatness from this author. No doubt, she has more perfection in the works as we speak!

THIS WAS....

From start to finish this was an intense ride.

Look I am not the biggest fan of MF lately. I am very comfortable in my MM world. But sometimes I come across a MF book that catches my eye and interest enough that I will sum up some courage and dive in. I say courage because I have been so disappointed in the MF genre that I have given up loads of hope that I will find one that I can enjoy. Well, I did just that and I freaking loved it.

I haven't read such a good kidnapping/captive read in a really long time. I think this might just be my favorite out of all the ones I've read in this genre.

The book is pretty violent and bloody. It's also funny. The MC really brings the relief from all the horror that is going on around her with her sarcastic comments. I loved her!

Paisley/Lacey is my kind of heroine. She is tough. She is funny. She has a backbone and doesn't just roll over in defeat. She owns her sexuality and isn't ashamed at how much she wants sex as much Six does. She accepts that she is going to die so she rolls with the punches and makes the best of her situation. She uses sarcasm to piss Six off which entertains her but also puts her in some humiliating situations when she pushes him too far. Sometimes the banter makes you forget this is such a dark read until that moment where she's pushed him off the edge and he retaliates in a manner that quickly reminds you what a monster he truly can be/is.

Six.... He's a killer, a monster, shows no emotion, has an unhealthy attachment to his weapons and is a complete badass. He is not once showed as a good guy. He does awful things and rarely shows any kind of emotion that shows any kind of hope that Lacey means anything to him. He reminds her constantly throughout the book that he is going to kill her. But he also lets it be known that it will be him and only him that puts a bullet in her head. It's quite the mind fuck.
Lacey messes with his head. She throws him off his game with how she behaves with her constant banter and questions. It unsettles him and he doesn't like it.
Like I said, he wasn't a good guy. He doesn't become a hero. Yet I ended up fucking loving him. I am as twisted as Lacey. Just goes to show you how brilliant the writing is to have a reader end up loving the monster in the book.

I can't express enough how much I loved this book. The action, the blood, the sex, the sarcasm, the rare soft moments we get to see, and especially how this book keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. It was a thrilling intense ride from start to finish and I can't recommend it more.

Happy reading, dolls! xx

This book has been on my to-read list since it came out and finally I decided to see if it lived up to all the amazing reviews and the answer is yes it did.
Paisley is a technician in the medical examiner's department and her life is full of work and then more work but at a works party she doesn't even want to attend she meets a tall dark and handsome man called Simon after a hot night and only three hours of sleep Paisley finds herself back at work still basking in the glow of the night before when she's faced with Simon pointing a gun directly at her. After shooting all her co-workers and blowing up the building Simon takes her hostage and Paisley knows her days are numbered.
Simon turns out to actually be Six a sociopathic hitman who lets it be known at every possible opportunity that he's going to kill her but he keeps her around firstly because she provides better cover since it's obvious someone's cleaning house and it looks like he's next and then for sex, they have lots and lots of sex.
At first Six is cold and lethal but a strange relationship forms between these two and the lines become a little blurred as it's apparent that Paisley is developing feeling for him and while he continues to hold imminent death over her head it's obvious he has some attachment to her as well.
So I knew from the reviews this was going to be a good book but I was surprised by just how much I enjoyed it.
It ticked all the boxes for me although it took me a little while to warm up to both the complex main characters it didn't matter because the story held me completely.
Six is a killer and he remains a stone cold killer throughout the book, he doesn't suddenly develop a conscience, he doesn't change or mellow or suddenly see the error of his ways he remains true throughout the book and yet I was so drawn to him and that's one of the amazing things about this book that I could fall in love with such a character and talking of characters I really like Five.
If I had to find a fault with this book it would that there was maybe a little too much sex, I know what you're thinking is it possible to have too much sex?
This is definitely a book I'll re-read and I can't believe I waited so long to read it in the first place.
This is also the first book I've read by this author but it certainly won't be the last.

Loved it.

Buddy-read with the lovely Aileene whom I call “Six”. (Betcha can’t guess why we picked this book…)

Let's talk about Six, baby....
Let's talk about you and me,
Let's talk about all the good things,
And the gawdawfulbad things, that may be
Let's talk about Six....

I agreed to this buddy-read before even so much as glancing at this book’s synopsis.

That being said, once I did read the synopsis and took a gander at what it was categorized as I pulled up my big girl panties and prepared myself for a book that would possibly make me very uncomfortable. And it did make me uncomfortable, just not in the ways I expected it to.

The captive/ rape fantasy aspect of this book actually didn’t bother me in the least. While rape fantasy is not a kink of mine, I can understand and appreciate that it is one for many others. And like all kinks (whether I share them or not) I find it intriguing. I have actually had several conversations about this particular kink with my partner as he was under the mistaken impression that a woman of my history would NEVER have this particular fantasy, which is in fact entirely untrue. While I personally do not have such a fantasy I know several women with similar stories to mine who do. And a book based on the premise of same is a very safe way to explore that fantasy.

This starts out as a dark rape/ captive erotica (I would put degradation in here, as well) and while that isn’t necessarily appealing to me, I understood its merit. I will even go as far as to say that I understand why the author would chose to make it genuine rape rather than scenario; because the real-life fantasy of same has its roots in touch and sensation which are obviously going to be missing from reading such a scene. Making it real on page would, presumably, heighten the edges of that fantasy in a way that printed scenarios wouldn’t. None of this even comes close to broaching my issues with this novel, these (surprisingly) were the bits I found interesting.

My issues reared their heads when the heroine (Paisley) made excuses for why a spade was not in fact a fucking spade. That was when this book went from fantasy to perpetuating an all too common reality for survivors. “The s/he didn’t actually rape you because” avenue, that sets my teeth on edge and makes me foam at the mouth. Anything that comes after that “because” is excusatory. It DOES NOT matter if you become physically aroused, if your attacker is “hot”, cares about you or even if you orgasm; if you did not consent it is rape. Period, NO exceptions.

This started at about 1/3rd of the way into the story and it DESTROYED any appreciation I may have had for this dark romance. I cannot even begin to understand why this type of language was used in a novel which up until, and then again later, employs rape fantasy. To me it simultaneously excuses rapists of their actions and shames people who have such a fantasy. And that is NOT okay. I will not accept sexual or fetish shaming, in any form. It’s repugnant to me.

I won’t yammer on much longer here, my review is already getting pretty long. At shortly after the half-way mark this novel got strange, it moved over into a more traditional romance in many ways and I didn’t like that. Even though Paisley makes many internal comments with regards to Stockholm Syndrome within the text I didn’t see any sort of development to that. One minute she was furious at her captor and almost instantly she seemed to stop being so. Magic penis syndrome…..

I also had a very hard time believing that any woman would be so elated that a man saved her life that she somehow (even for a moment) forgot the infinite number of times he threatened that very thing previously. It didn’t sit well with me. It made a woman depicted as being a scientist appear moronic to me.

And now I must apologize because this is not the ranty review that Six and Trish were hoping for. Sorry, ladies!

Warning: Spoilers ahead
Stop reading here if you have delicate eyes because this review will not be a nice one.

I chose to read Six because I had actually enjoyed this authors previous series Breach which was equally a Dark Romance/Erotica but which - if not taken too seriously - was quite entertaining. Guilty pleasures and all that. And there, I don't even like CR Dark Romance/Erotica but the Breach series had something more to offer; a certain kind of inner conflict that both MCs go through that I liked.

So imagine my delight when I saw that K.I. Lynn had released a new book; albeit already a little apprehensive when I read the blurb. Killer holds woman captive romance is one of my least favourite tropes. Nevertheless, I knew about the author's tendency for OTT characters and plot and was ready to take it on.

Never mind, I thought, never mind. You deserve a little bit of guilty pleasure after all the crappy and boring books. Six, here I cooooome! If only I'd known. I wish I had 'accidentally' dropped my phone, Kindle and iPad in the loo so I'd not be able to read this.

Oh boy, oooooooh boy! I'm trying to remember the last book I read where the 'hero' (henceforth referred to as the Knob) actually raped the 'heroine' (henceforth referred to as the Braindead) and Braindead enjoyed it. Mind you, I grew up with those bodice rippers à la Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, Bertrice Small and Christine Monson which left me even then slightly disturbed. I thought those days were over. Apparently not!

Painsly, aka Braindead, is a lab technician working at a mortuary when one fateful night she comes across this tall, dark, handsome stranger who introduces himself as Simon (Six, aka Knob). The night ends as it is supposed to end: They fuck.

Next day back at work, Braindead is going through the toxicology report of a John Doe that shows strange irregularities. Just when she's about to discuss it, a man enters the lab, kills all of her friends and colleagues and abducts her. Of course, the man is Simon who gave her multiple orgasms the night before. It turns out later that Simon/Six is a member of a CIA black-op team and the John Doe was part of that team. In order to destroy all evidence about John Doe's existence, he kills everybody, except for Braindead, and bombs the whole building to the ground. If it hadn't been for all the rape and physical/emotional abuse, I think I might have had a good laugh, close to what I experienced with Claimed. The ridiculousness is that OTT. Each member is given a code name which is a number. So Six is the sixth highest rated member of the group and it goes from One to Nine.

Anyway, back to Six. We are at the 10% (!!!) mark. The story takes a nosedive from here on that is endless, and I mean endless. Nothing that happens, absolutely nothing, is romantic or sexy or dark. It's Jason Bourne mixed with torture porn and rape. The first rape occurs about three days after being abducted. And to make sure that there's no doubt that it is rape, I'll quote it. Nonetheless, I'll put it under spoiler for those who - understandably - might find it distasteful.
I stopped here, ready to DNF it. However, after much deliberation, I thought I'd give the author the benefit of the doubt (shoot me now) and see how she would pull this off into a romance.

Look, I know what the Stockholm Syndrome is, I know women have rape fantasies and I know this is fiction. Nonetheless, the shock I experienced reading the aforementioned scene only deepened. I am not exaggerating when I say that this Knob continues to rape her (or fuck her, according to Braindead), slap her when he thinks she's playing up, humiliate her both physically and emotionally in front of others and repeatedly tells her that he will kill her. All in the time span of the three months they spend together. The worst thing about it is that - as the story is told completely from the Braindead's PoV - I had to listen to how much she loves the sex with him, although she hates him and should not be turned on. But she simply can't resist him. We are constantly in her head, constantly being told how appalling his behaviour is, we constantly watch his appalling behaviour. Due to the limited PoV, the character development is only visible in Braindead and it's a feeble attempt. The defense mechanism the author applies to Braindead to deal with the traumatic events is sarcasm. But Braindead gets off on aggravating the Knob by sarcastic comments which often result in more rape and abuse. And she enjoys it - most of the time anyway. There was a lot of ramming, slamming and slapping going on, along with 'I love his cock'. 'I love the way he fucks me.'

There's absolutely no indication whatsoever that I was reading a romance novel. If there's any change in the Knob's behaviour it's due to his needing her to cover his arse. Which she, of course, does, because a) she's been abducted, b) he fucks/rapes her into multiple orgasms, c) nobody would believe her story anyway in case she escaped and d) she's brain dead.

And because he's a knob and she's brain dead, their communication is somewhat lacking. Surprise, surprise! When she doesn't throw sarcastic comments at him and gets raped by him, she asks him questions. In turn he tells her to shut up and that he'll eventually kill her. One of the highlights, though, was this following scene. It happens shortly after he's killed four men at a motel for - get this, right? - harassing her! Of course, she's a little bit shocked and feels nauseous but never fear, our Braindead is made of harder stuff than we could ever possibly imagine. After finding another motel to stay, they finally have time for something to eat and a little chat.
I opened the container and took in a whiff of the most wonderful smell, my mouth salivating.
“Where did you get a tenderloin sandwich out here?” The thing was huge, taking up the entire container and then some.
“There was a place around the corner.”
I picked up the bun to survey the giant breaded hunk of meat. It was two meals or more worth. Spots of red caught my eye and I stared down, trying to figure out what was on it.
“Ketchup?”
“Hm?”
The corners of my mouth turned down as I scraped the bun off on the container.
“What the hell? You don’t put ketchup on a tenderloin!”
Ew, just ew.
Priorities, right?

To add insult to injury, this book subjected me also to slutshaming. At the start of the story Braindead talks about the occasional hook-up's she's had. Yet, when another member of the black-op's team turns out to be a super hot blonde woman who's slept with every member of the team, Braindead goes into a meltdown. Examples?
My jaw dropped open. “Oh, God, she’s probably some disease ridden skank. Ew!”
-----
Her seductive act had me vomiting in my mouth.
-----
“Oh, come the fuck on!” I threw my hands up in the air. “Are you so sluttastic you just wave that shit around for any dick to come knocking?”
There are obviously more but I can't be bothered at this point. Oh, one more! I can't resist. See, whilst the other woman's behaviour is being called sluttastic, Braindead herself gets off on exhibitionism. She loves it when other men watch her getting fucked by the Knob. So much for double standards.

Have I said everything I wanted to say about this book? Hell, no! I could easily go on for quite a while. Although, I've expressed my dislike enough I think. One thing remains. Since I finished this horrible book, I've been wondering whether I just read the work of a woman who hates women, or at least a certain type of women. I see no other motivation for such a plot and such characterization. Many a times I've said in my reviews 'This isn't romantic' or 'This isn't a romance'. But if I would have to draw a line, this would be it. However much I may like dark heroes, anti-heroes, dubious motivations, I'm drawing a line with Six. It was beyond sick and twisted. It was misogyny at its best and I will never, ever read another book of this author again.

I really liked this book. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, trying to figure out what was going to happen next and who else was going to die.

Paisley is a smart and sarcastic woman who becomes the pawn in a plot beyond her control. She is kidnapped and held captive by a sociopathic secret government agent, Six, who promises to kill her when his job is done. Seriously. He keeps reminding her throughout the story that he's got a bullet with her name on it. I lost count of the many times he's held a gun on her.

Six has a problem. Someone's cleaning up the Cleaners. And until he figures out who and stops them, no one is safe. He's kept Paisley alive for information, but eventually the lines start to blur.

booktease

I used that book tease ^^^^^ because I think it sums up the story the best. Whoever created it was right on the money.

This book was intense, sexy, thrilling and crazy. Definitely not your typical romance but I do recommend it to those who like their themes a little dark.

This dude is pure sociopath, and there's no rainbow around the FMC protecting her from his lack of empathy. So, just be warned that this is not a case of a bad guy doing bad things to everyone but the FMC. No. He's just a mofo >.<

Shut the fuck up. I don't have time to shove my cock down that obnoxious mouth of yours."

"Ah, there was my murderous charmer."

"Thanks for that, Captain Obvious, but could you maybe act like it for one minute? ... Couldn't a girl ask for some romance from her fake husband-slash-captor? "

I loved her snark. Her authenticity, however, was a problem. More in a minute.

What's What

I'd say there are two main plots here.

One revolves around a Jason Bourne'esc mystery. Fantastic job here. If you like suspense action, you'll likely be very pleased with the plot here.

Two revolves around a captive plot where the MC's ONS turns into this kidnap, fuck-fest, Stockholm, companion, 'can there ever be more' evolution.

What Didn't Work

I typed this section multiple times, erased, pondered, typed, erased before it finally hit me what my main problem was.

I love dark books. I don't mind dark characters doing all sorts of depraved shit WHEN it's other "bad" people involved, or when there's some rationalization I can make for the character. I don't mind dark characters corrupting. I don't mind two fucked up people doing fucked up shit to each other.

But I need some light in there somewhere.

Here the author doesn't give you the out of rationalization or any shred of light.

Innocent lives are taken on-page by the MMC with no excuse or apology. The FMC is selfish with no excuse or apology.

To the author's credit, she didn't do the normal dark sugar coating.

To her demise, the innocent lives lost & thE FMC's indifference left me feeling eeky.

Other problems...

1) Much of the inner thoughts and lines of evolution here in the MC's relationship are on a spin cycle for over half the book.

The emotionless MMC is using her for her body and going to kill her. I got it; it goes on too long and is said too many times.

I will say that his transitions were authentic. I appreciated that. I appreciate that the author didn't do a 180 on him by the end.

2) The FMC also just keeps saying the same shit in different wording over and over and over. When some transitions in her emotional state finally do happen, they're rapid fire and don't make a lot of sense.

Certain plot points happen in the book to leave her shocked, angry, or upset, but they fade as fast as they come. For example, her friend is murdered. She's upset in the moment, but then she's over it without another though thereafter. That's unrealistic. She's either sane and has the emotion and needs to work through it, or she's impaired and wouldn't even have the emotion to begin with. Basically, her development and psyche wasn't authentic for me.

3) There's never any follow through, meaning to the emotional evolution of the characters and their actions. The degrading bed scene and her following "depression" is a perfect example.

4) I'm not crazy about her condition at the end. *shutters*

Sex

description

Be warned that while it's all consensual, it's not play erotica in theme. It's dirty. It's not kind or pretty. It's not romantic. It's raw lust at work.

Writing

Mixed bag.

Author has a good dialogue voice.

Pacing is not great on the romance.

Some editing issues with dropped words and missing letters.

Sentence structure is mostly meat and potatoes, with the occasional excess scenery description. But, thoughts do get repetitive and fail to transition well as they evolve/progress.

Bottom Line

3 stars for dirty, dark sex and the Bourne'esc suspense plot.

A huge thank you to the lovely sister who offered to lend me this book:) xo

What can I say about KI Lynn and her books that I haven’t already said a million times? When the blurb for Six was announced, I was hooked. I am a sucker for the jerk-asshole heroes that aren’t really great guys. I don’t need my heroes to slay dragons, I just need them to be memorable and hot. And Six. He was everlasting and hot as fuck. Especially with that gun in his hand.

Paisley just had the hottest sex of her life, a sweaty-multiple-round-of-pounding-one-night-stand sex, but she never expected the man that hit all her spots would be standing in front of her the next day with a gun pointed at her head. Or that the same man that made her body sing, would be taking her hostage and tying her to a chair in a seedy hotel. But that is just what is happening.

Something is amiss in the world of contract killers. Six knows this, he just doesn’t have all the answers yet. But when of their crew turns up dead and others being to follow, he knows something or someone is set on taking out their little group of assassins. But figuring out who, while staying alive and dealing with a hostage proves to be anything but easy.

Okay so I have to say I am a big fan of dark romances. Like, give me your brutal anti-heroes and I’ll show you a girl with damp panties. I really only need a spark in the character of some emotion and redemption to really see past the assholery to get over the whole, he threatens to kill her a bunch of times and maybe lets a few bullets fly just past her head to prove a point...

Paisley is not your typical captive heroine. After a few attempts at escape she decides to play along. She has a feeling that Six means business and so she is going to make the best of her final days. Letting her sarcastic attitude be the needed buffer in this life or death situation, she adds a bit of humor to this darker romance. And with the events of her one-night stand still fresh in her mind, she finds it hard to not be attracted to his cold-blooded killer, even if she knows it’s wrong. But if she’s truly going to die, why not make the best of the final days of her life, right?

I really liked this story. I really liked Five and I don’t think I can let KI get away without writing his book, he really needs a book! But I loved that the moments that we get that showcase that Six feels something for Paisley aren’t completely obvious, I love that they were tucked away moments when he did small things or acted in a completely non-ruthless-killer way.

I am excited for others to get their hands on this twisty story!

I bloody loved this one, it was one of those stories that has you on the edge of your seat with your heart pumping from beginning to end. It's no secret that I like to read a dark romance from time to time, so when I discovered that K.I Lynn was writing a captive story, I knew I was going to be jumping all over it the moment I could get my greedy little hands on it.

Paisley is an intelligent, sassy, and feisty woman who finds herself caught up in the most surreal circumstances - on the run, kidnapped by an elite government agent who vows to kill her in the very near future.

"Six was an asshole, a bastard in a god's body, and I hated him."

Six is one of nine 'cleaners' who have found themselves being targeted by an unknown threat, and decides to take Paisley along for the ride because she has information that he desperately needs.

Paisley and Six may be enemies, but they were definitely a match made in heaven between the sheets, my kindle was smokin' and with Six being a man of few words, sexy as hell, and so very dominant, who could blame Paisley for falling for the bad guy?

"What kind of monster are you?” She tried to help me, and he killed her. He killed them both. He stepped forward and yanked on my arm, pulling me up. “I’m your motherfucking monster. Get in the fucking car."

I loved the characters in this novel, not only the badass heroine and the alpha anti-hero, but the supporting cast were also a great addition - it would be great if this could turn into a series of stand-alone stories.

Sexy, exciting, and thrilling. Recommended for my dark romance junkies.

Six is an erotic romantic suspense, told from the heroine's POV

Exciting from start to finish!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🖤💜💖
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎
Character development: 🤨😟😳😍

The heroine: Paisley - she works in the Cincinnati morgue. Her job is to analyze blood and tissue samples. She is good at her job and often works double shifts to cover for other people. Paisley was last in a relationship with a guy named Digby who got a job in another town. She has been celibate for over four months. The night of a work party at a hotel, she has a few too many and hooks up with a handsome man at the bar who says his name is Simon.

The Hero: Six (a.k.a. Simon) - he tells Paisley he is in town for business and picks her up at the hotel bar and they spend the night together. He is tall, dark, handsome, and confident. He is also a cleaner, or in other words, an assassin.

The Story: The next day at work, Paisley is busy, but she is also intrigued by a case that they have been working, a John Doe who has no fingerprints, many of his bones had been broken at one time but have healed and he has no distinguishing marks except three tattooed dots behind one of his ears. When all the sudden the door opens and Simon walks in a murders everyone in her lab. He takes her and has her get him into the morgue where he murders the rest of her co-workers and looks at the body of John Doe. He then takes Paisley hostage when she tells him she has more information about the man and leaves, blowing up the morgue in the process.

Six is definitely a bad man. He is dominant and has a huge sex drive. He constantly wants Paisley, but he also lets her know that she means nothing to him and that whatever they have together will definitely end with a bullet to her head.

“Damsels in distress were only in fairy tales and romance books. While I may have fit the bill of a damsel and distress, Six was no prince.
I wasn’t in a love story.
I was in a death story.”

This was certainly an action packed book, they were on the run and always on the move. There were some terrific characters, including the other cleaners (especially numbers Five, One and Nine) and their handler Jason as well as Digby. The cleaners were a highly classified division of the CIA and only a select few people knew anything about them, but after Three and Eight were killed, it was pretty obvious that someone was cleaning house on the cleaners.

I didn’t like some of the things Six did, but I found myself liking the character. Paisley freely admitted she was suffering some form of Stockholm syndrome and it would have to be that considering he killed all her work friends and constantly reminder her that he would eventually kill her. Though the attraction between them couldn’t be denied and the intimate scenes were sizzling hot. Though Paisley feared that Six would kill her, he was also her safety, which was screwed up in so many ways, but made for an interesting story.

O-M-G this book....

description

I don't know where to start with this one. I LOVED it from start to finish. The plot was AWESOME and highly entertaining. It was just like reading an action movie.

I ADORED Paisley (Lacey), she was feisty and strong in the face of all she had to endure. Six was, well Six was difficult. I thought he was HOT as hell in a twisted psychotic type of way, but a lot of his actions pushed me past what I feel comfortable with.

This leads me to the reason that this is a 4 star read as opposed to a 5 star one. This book REALLY REALLY REALLY needed Six's POV. "I" really needed that for me to connect to him as a character, ESPECIALLY when his behaviour (and words) crossed my comfort line. I needed to know what his thought process was. I needed a TINY look inside his head to feel that he actually has some sort of feelings for Paisley. Without that look, I unfortunately felt a little disconnected in their "romance" as it were.

That said, I still LOVED this one. There are a few side characters introduced that I would love to see get their own books. Overall though a really great way to spend a few hours.

Heads up: Not so pleasant review.
Read or lower down your pitchforks and toddle off.

Why did we read this book?

Ok, first, we analyse.
Everything about it just gave out good vibes;
1. The Title - one word only but VERY effective.
2. The Cover - persuading.
3. The Blurb - VERY intriguing.
4. GRs ratings and readers reviews - EXTREMELY impressive.

All these together, I was sold.
So when Karly and I decided it's time for us to have an exclusive BR, this book was one of my suggestions.
She chose it, however, because I call her Blossom and she calls me Six.

I enjoyed the first part of the book - Paisley Warren, a very smart lab technician from the Hamilton County Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Cincinnati, Ohio, a job I'm very familiar with, was forced to attend their work party, separated herself and made her way to the gorgeous man that caught her eye.

Too much alcohol, a lot of flirtations and a little unsettled from a break-up with her ex-boyfriend who proposed marriage to her, a passionate night with this sexy man was bound to happen.

It was perfect.
Simon treated Paisley like the most beautiful woman she is. He was very attentive to her needs too.

“Nothing like a sexy guy staring at you like you’re the most desirable woman he’d ever seen.”

But that happiness was short-lived as the following day, Simon, the very same man that made her toes curled, broken into the lab where she works, killed her colleagues and friends but spared her life and took her as his hostage.

After this part everything about this book went downhill for me.
The story turned into something I detested. The characters that I adored switched dramatically into hatred.

Simon / Six - both not his real names revealed his true self and treated Paisley with so much cruelty, sexually abused her, humiliated her, hurt her and degraded her one too many times.

“You are nothing but a come dump until I have no use of you anymore”

“Some stranger had just seen me completely naked and completely helpless as a man force-fed me his dick.”

“My killer’s cock was in me along with the thrill of people seeing me get off on it.
They were watching me get fucked. Two good looking guys stared at me like they wished they were him.”

“He yanked on my hair, making me cry out in pain as he led me across the room to one of his bags and fished out another damn roll of duct tape.”

And threatened her life constantly,

“He pushed the tip of the gun harder into my head. “Now or later?”
I swallowed hard and closed my eyes before whispering, “Later.”

My heart should broke and feel sorry for Paisley but I felt furious as she allowed him to use her for sex and repeatedly telling herself that she enjoyed it. She even convinced herself that she was developing Stockholm syndrome with her captor.
Captor that we know next to nothing apart from his overblown sexual appetite and his sociopath behaviour. Yup, seems like enough qualities to fall head over heels in love with.

If I hated Six, I was fucking enraged and wanted to kill Paisley myself.

She gives women a bad name.

I kept hoping each time I turned a page that Paisley/Lacey would eventually and miraculously grow some self-respect and shoot Six in the face. She didn’t.
I. Was. Seriously. Frustrated. And. Furious.

Their relationship is toxic and the author romanticised this as a love story. It's NOT.

I think I should stay away anything remotely related to any Stockholm syndrome stories / concepts.
I could / would never love a man that will take my power, my honour, abuse me and degrade me physically and emotionally even if he was hot and sexy and very good in the sack.
No. Just no.

The reason why Six took Paisley was because she had the information he needed why Six and his comrades were getting eliminated one by one.
But I never felt that danger or the threat his opponents were posing.
What was palpable here was the excessive sex they shared and my feelings of disappointment, disgust and hatred to the characters.

‘Six was ruthless and I would die by his hand.’

One – two; Six is coming for you. Three – four better lock your door… actually don’t bother he’ll get in any way! If you weren’t keen on one night stands before, you certainly won’t be after reading this story.

KI Lynn has a type and she writes her type really well. A perfect balance of dark humour, off the charts brutal passion, a strong heroine and a dark messed up hero. We went on one crazy arsed ride that had us second guessing and trying to figure out just what the hell was going on. A kidnapping, violence, mystery and an effed up love story. It was ruthless and oh so wicked but we couldn’t look away from this dark satire of a romance.

“Anyone can be a killer, whether they believe it or not. Self-preservation is extremely strong in humans, as is protection of family and loved ones.”

Six is a cold heartless arse. He’s meticulous, calculated and hell-bent on finding out why his contract killer colleagues are being murdered left right and centre. He’s not a likeable character, yet he kind of is. The underlying hints from what he says – his behaviour tells us so – camouflaged by his killer persona. As the thrilling ride plays out we get glimpses of a heart, sure, you need super strength bifocals, but it’s there…..and when you snatch a peek it’s fabulous. The rest of the time you’re just waiting for him to kill you…really!

‘Sarcasm was my nature. Bating the beast my fun. There was no stopping who I was, and that alone was bound to get me killed sooner rather than the never I dreamed of.’

Paisley, the heroine – which she actually is in the true sense of the word – is not your typical hostage. Really, she isn’t. At times we completely forgot that she was, as she seemed to enjoy herself way too much. Only in fiction right?! She’s quite the fierce and strong woman with a sarcastic sense of humour and impressive survival instinct. She had us chuckling as she sparred with Six. Brave girl, because the consequences of his anger. Well.

“It wouldn’t hurt you to take a break and merge into the world for a little while. You’re like a hermit.”

Caught up in a whodunit is never an easy feat but to be caught up in Six’s snare, well that’s off the charts. Speaking of off the chart….hot!

‘He was my safety. My captor. My killer. My security. When did my executioner become my lifeline?’

So, we enjoyed the story of Six and Paisley, and whilst we couldn’t put it down we would’ve loved more detail. On the whole we felt as if we only ever skimmed the surface. Though we have to say the end made up for some of that. If you love your dark romances then this one is a sure thing!

Six is a captive/kidnapper book with plenty of rough, dub-non-con sex, a bunch of guns, a splatter of blood and some wit throughout.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The book took a little while to grow on me, not without it's fault, it was still a good read.

I could've done without the addition of 'One', the female 'baddie' and some of the description; clothes, hotel room, the word jizz :P I could've done without too.

Our heroine, Paisley was the perfect depiction of an average girl with quick wit, she became more and more in my eyes as the book went on. I liked her development. She made me laugh a whole bunch.

Our hero, Six, could have done without the sociopath tag to be honest. I didn't see him as one, he felt more meat-heady and I liked him like that. He was hot, dangerous and rough.

The story was slow in the first half, building up to an action packed second half, I liked the secondary characters (loved Five) and the way it amped up.

The sex was most certainly one of the highlights. Rough, dubious non-consent, voyeurism and pure lust burned throughout the scenes.

I wouldn't say it was a dark read, I wasn't totally grossed out or afraid for our heroine, but it certainly was a thrill. Recommend for lovers of Shay Savage, ironically.

I enjoyed!

Some scenes might be disturbing to some, sensitive readers beware. Murder/Hot Sex/Kidnapping/Action Packed

This book put a smile on my face, a hand down my pants, and giggle-snort out my nose. I loved loved loved the dark humor. Dark Romance with a kick of laughter and twisted charm. Think "The Bourne Identity," but 100 times hotter. I'm a huge fan of action packed movies, this story was just that, like a sexed-up action packed movie, I couldn't stop reading.

Yeah, you are totally gonna want to read this one.

"Monsters are real. And they have their own version of the world. I should know, I was kidnapped by one. Dragged down into the pits of their hell. Changed. Altered. Forced to do anything to survive."

Six, the killer. Secret agent. Assassin. Sociopath. The love of my life. Someone is trying to clean out "The Cleaners." Six is on a mission when Paisley crosses his path. She has information he needs, but she's evidence that shouldn't be left alive. I'm sorry, but I love my men mean, and Six was void of emotion, psychopathic, and completely drool worthy. (If you are not a fan of dark romance, than he may not be your type of twisted tea.) I was head over heels. He's by no means a prince charming, just FYI. But if you like them rough around the edges and a bit abusive... Well, you'll love him.

"He licked his lips and adjusted his hardening cock. Killers also seemed to be horny motherfuckers."

Paisley. This is by far one of my favorite characters written. She rolls with the punches, line after line of awesomeness. I laughed at almost every thing she said or did. It broke of some of the darkness up and made me pee my pants with laughter. WHAT A BREATH OF FRESH AIR!!! We go through her transformation from impending death to fighting to survive. Kickassery. I loved watching her grow into Lacey.

“Why are you so nosy? Can’t you sit on the bed crying like a good fucking captive?” I pursed my lips. “Would it make you feel better?”

I could write my entire review on the passages I highlighted, there's too many to add to this review. Just so you know, this book goes by its own set of rules, the cover, the blurb, none of it was what I expected. But I loved the craziness. The ending was perfect. I can't say what I loved the most without spoiling it for you. I'm always happy when the authors of dark romance stick to the characters personality, and this story did just that. I'd love to see future books from other characters. And I hope Lynn continues to write on the edgier side, because I'm a fan.

5++ stars!!!

Oh my god, I can't believe I loved this book as much as I did!

The H, Six, is the most fucked up, emotionless, ruthless killer ever! Talk about a psychopath! And I freaking loved him! So many things in this book went so far over the line of what I can handle. Six did so many unacceptable, inexcusable and horrible things to the heroine, which would normally make me DNF a book. So why didn't I??

I not only stuck with it, but I freaking devoured it and I attribute it to the heroine Paisley! She was amazing. Facing certain death and horrible living conditions as Six's hostage while on the run from other ruthless killers, she kept her sarcastic and feisty attitude. Refusing to become the victim, Paisley challenged Six and fought him even though she knew it was a losing battle and her death was imminent. What she lacked in physical strength she made up for mentally.

The other reason I could not stop reading this is Six. Yup, he's a fucked up SOB, but he is H O T!!! I kept hoping and waiting for Six to realize his love for Paisley, for him to confess his undying love and affection. For those hoping for the romance, don't hold your breath. I think the most "swoony" compliment he paid the h is saying she's his and no one kills her but him! Haha.. What a charmer! But for some reason I still fell for him. His actions tell a different story than his words. The author did a bang up job of portraying a ruthless killer who is still just a man. A man who cares even if his words speak to the contrary.

Then we have the storyline, which I really dug. It was exciting, engaging and there were some twists that I didn't see coming.
I enjoyed the other characters, especially Five and I would love to read his book.

Lastly, I really need K. I. Lynn to write a companion with Six's POV! I really really missed his POV during certain chapters, as I think following his thought process would not only be freaking scary but intriguing as hell.

I am a major fan of this author and I think Six is one of the best action/thriller/romance novels I've read recently!

I was kidnapped by a monster. Dragged down into the pits of their hell. Changed. Altered. Forced to do anything to survive.

I like reading dark stories with a captive heroine falling for her captor. This had the same cliche ending, but held more suspense that was not all directed to the captive.

Pasley, technician in the medical examiner’s office, is an intelligent woman with a sarcastic and sassy mouth. She sees Six, her one-night-stand, kill off her colleagues and finds herself being kidnapped by this psychopath killer.
Six is a cleaner, out of nine, who are being hunted. When one of the cleaners ends up in the morgue of the medical examiner, Six comes barging in killing everyone in the office and decides to take Paisley because it is seems she has information on the death that he wants.

Being held captive in sleazy motels she witness Six killing people and blowing up buildings while he duct-tapes her to a chair, rapes & humiliates her and reminding her repeatedly that her time with him will end with him putting a bullet in her skull.

Over time Six realises that having her with him will give him a cover to blend in and takes her with him when he goes out to find out what and who is killing off the Cleaners.

SIX is a dark, thrilling and super sexy read and written from her POV

This was my first book by K.I. Lynn and I absolutely loved every minute of it. It was thrilling, crazy, erotic, suspenseful and the action just didn't stop. This is not your typical hostage/captive story and there is no instant love or brutality between Paisley and her captor, Six. There is a strong sexual attraction between the two that develops in intensity over time and just doesn't let up.

"I had a one-night stand. It wasn’t my first, but it would be my last.

A gun to the head.

A trained killer.

A deadly conspiracy."

Paisley was definitely a kickass heroine with a feisty attitude and plenty of smart remarks that left me laughing to myself every time something came out of her mouth.

Six was your typical brooding anti hero who took Paisley hostage for one reason only. He needed information from her for which he was willing to wait for.

"Our breaths mingled, another kiss, soft and sensual as his strength gave out. “Don’t think I’m done,” he said against my neck. “No?” I asked, still trying to catch my breath. He made a humming sound. “No. I’m going to make sure you can’t walk out of this room.” Fuck. Me."

Six drags Paisley halfway around the world looking for answers to his quest. From seedy motels in small towns to the high life in Paris they are constantly on the move. Slowly, Paisley begins to accept her situation realizing she has no choice but to go along with Six. All the while that sexual attraction just keeps getting more frenzied and they can't keep their hands off each other.

During their adventures a trust of sort develops between Paisley and Six. Soon Paisley finds herself with a gun and on the run with Six as they both try to find out who is killing off the Cleaners from Six's group.

"“You are one badass, frightening motherfucker.” He quirked his brow at me. “You’re just now figuring that out?” “Oh, no. I’ve known for months."

" The gesture left me shell shocked as I reached out and took the pistol from him. It was for more than my help or to protect myself. It was trust. Six trusted me— the woman he was going to kill— with his life."

I loved the ending of this book and the way some of Six's softer side began to come out. As for Paisley, she never once gave up-A true Heroine. I highly recommend this book to lovers of a darker action packed romance. I will definitely be reading more of K.I Lynn's books!!

5+ - Love creates weakness - stars!

Wow! What a read was it! I'm so thankful for Shhh and K. I. Lynn for giving me a chance to win the ARc of this book!

Six by K. I. Lynn is just one huge wtf. Not in a bad way but in the best way possible. It kept me on edge willing to learn what will be next. Ant the ending - it just completely blew my mind.

It all started with a party, grabby collegues and the front zipper dress that was out od use for so long. One night stand and meeting Six completely changed Paisley's life. It was turned upside down and her life began to be at stake.

Paisley used to be a nice girl. A calm one and not even a bit adventurous. Caring and hardworking.

" In the last six months, the only relationship I had was with my couch. We had three-ways with my television. Sometimes two guys named Ben and Jerry came around for an introvert gang bang."

And then appeared Lacey. A willing survivor prepared to do everything in order to live. At times I admired her bravety and the will to live. No matter what she was prepared to fight.

" What did I have to lose that wasn't already slated for demolition? Self-respect was long gone. Anger and fear did nothing to help. I accepted. I kept living."

Six is a Cleaner. An assasin. A f**ked up emotionless killer on a task. His life credo is kill, clean, move on.

" Six was not a nice guy. Six was a monster."

Six is not your typical NA/DARK/CAPTIVE story. Though it has it all, it's much more. It's the whole world that opens in front of you and you get hooked in a second.

" That's a difference between everyone else and me. I have no guilt."

This book has it all. A lot of action, anticipation, death sentence and very HOT sex scenes. It was a perfect read for me. One that I so desperately tried to find and at last I did it.
