Ears Wide Open: LOVEYOU

Andrew Stogel was a teenager when he grabbed us by the ears with the music from his Dreamers Dose, and now at age 21 he sounds as if he’s been through some things. After “some time away from the outside world after a personal and painful time,” Stogel has re-emerged fronting the new band LOVEYOU, with his heart-on-the-sleeve emotions matched by crushing, crashing guitars and atmospherics. LOVEYOU’s forthcoming mini-album is titled, aptly, “Sparkle & Crush,” eight songs of shoegaze-meets-British Invasion psychedelia written and produced by the 21-year-old himself. The pedal-drenched latest single “Your Love Is” feels like an emotional purge — “If I could have told you I would / Your love is good, your love is good,” Stogel confesses. He’s still feeling, and maybe falling, hard on “Feels Like Me,” wrapping it up in a big hook. Let the guitars ring.

* Update: “Sparkle & Crush” was released under name War Strings in 2017.
