Mounted Shooting champs to ride starting tonight

About 300 riders with guns will take over the Amarillo National Center beginning Tuesday.

The Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association's world championships begin with a cowboy church service at 7 p.m. tonight.

Competition rounds begin at 8 and 11 a.m. Wednesday, continuing at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 17 and 8:30 a.m. Oct. 18.

The competition culminates in the Starline Showcase of Champions, featuring top riders from each of the divisions at 7 p.m. Oct. 18.

Final riding will take place at 8 a.m. Oct. 19.

The event features cowboys riding in a timed event using two .45 caliber single-action revolvers each loaded with five rounds of specially prepared blank ammunition.
