The weekend’s big rain played havoc with local football fixtures.
Much to many youngsters’ dismay, the season’s first round of Junior Football in Wondai was washed out.
The Barambah v Nanango Senior fixtures were also a wash out – these games will now be played mid-week in Murgon at a date to be announced.
However, the Kingaroy pitch was in pretty good condition and recovered quickly from the wet.
Three very close games were played with Wests just winning the day.
Gunnettes also got their first points of the season, so now all teams are off and running.

Redbacks Receive A Holden Grant
Congratulations to the Kingaroy Junior Redbacks for winning one of the 19 “Holden Home Ground Advantage” grants recently given out by the big car-maker.
The $10,000 grant will be used for irrigation of the Under 9 field, a new line marker and removal of an existing hill so the club can expand its facilities.
It just happens that I am the Grants Officer for the Redbacks and I admit I had all but given up on hearing back from Holden. However on Friday I got a call saying we had won it.
Our next project is erecting a fence around the playing precinct, so hopefully I will have some luck with that, too.
Thanks must also go to the committee members who got quotes for me so promptly.
Personally, I have not worked with a better committee – the load is shared and everybody pulls their weight.
