U.S.-Chinese media group Metan Development will add Next Media Elite’s weekly entertainment news series PopStop TV and its Mandarin-language sister show Hollywood Now to its “Hollywood” channel on Chinese online video-sharing site Tudou.
The U.S.-Chinese media firm is headed by E! founder Larry Namer, and it aims to feed a growing appetite in China for both legitimate content and news about Hollywood.

PopStop TV and Hollywood Now will complement the channel’s flagship series, Hello! Hollywood, said Gordon Chu, Metan’s vice president, business development. “(Tudou) Hollywood is quickly becoming China’s go-to network for all things from the world of celebrity and pop culture, and is delivering on its promise to be the bridge between China and the Western entertainment world,” he said.
The shows will debut with live red carpet coverage from the 2014 Film Independent Spirit Awards and the 2014 Academy Awards.
From March 1, additional up-to-the-minute shortform content from both programs will also air daily on Tudou Hollywood, offering the entertainment and pop culture news to the channel’s viewers.

Metan launched the Hollywood channel in January to Tudou’s 400 million-plus users, and shows include Today’s Hollywood News, Hollywood Sights, Behind the Scenes, Hollywood Interview, Movie Music, Parties and Premieres, Hollywood Style and Hello! Hollywood Talk Show, a 30-minute, weekly program recapping the week’s news in global entertainment.
Tudou is one of the more popular sites in China’s fiercely competitive Internet video space. It hosts licensed content, user generated content and some original in-house productions. The company was acquired by former rival Youku in 2012, but the two video sites still run somewhat autonomously. Tudou says it often logs as many as 200 million monthly unique users.
