LAKE STEVENS — A pedestrian injured when he was struck by a Snohomish County patrol car near Lake Stevens early Saturday morning remained in serious condition Monday at a Seattle hospital.
The accident occurred around 3 a.m. on Highway 92 near Callow Road.
The Lake Stevens man, 51, was in the road. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
Detectives with the sheriff’s office Collision Investigation Unit are piecing together the circumstances of the crash.
The deputy, who has been with the sheriff’s office for four years, was on routine patrol duty and not believed to be speeding at the time, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.
“It was reported that the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and had headphones on at the time of the incident,” Ireton said.
Another driver called 911 and reported almost hitting a pedestrian in dark clothing in the same area, Ireton said.
“The call came through almost simultaneously” with the deputy reporting the accident, Ireton said.
The deputy has not been placed on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.
“We need the results of the investigation before we make any move,” Ireton said.
The accident closed the highway both directions, the state Department of Transportation reported.
The Washington State Patrol assisted with the road closure, trooper Mark Francis said.
