OGDEN, Utah--The Utah Valley University men's and women's track and field teams are halfway through their final week of competition after competing at the Weber State Twilight Meet before they host the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships next week. The Wolverines will also compete at the Oxy Invite this weekend in California to wrap up the last of their regular season competition.
"This time of year is all about getting ready for conference, most of our athletes are resting but we had a few who needed a last chance opportunity to try and better their marks for the WAC Championships and the NCAA's," head coach
Scott Houle said.
Drake Walker finished in second place in the 100m dash with a respectable time of 10.68 seconds, while teammate
Mike Fogt finished in 10.86 seconds. In the 200m dash,
Brandon Smart ran in 22.14 seconds, while Fogt was right behind with 22.19 seconds and
Logan Rusch rounded out the trio with a time of 22.71, for fourth through sixth places in the event. Rusch also ran the 400m dash with a time of 49.73 seconds.
The men's 4x100m relay team combined for a speedy time of 40.74 seconds, ran by
Stetson Sartor,
Alex Walton,
Nicholas Taylor, and Walker.
For the women,
Bailey Carling ran the 100m dash with a time of 12.50 seconds, with teammate
Desiree Guerrero right behidn with 12.59 seconds.
Wendy Whitaker ran the 200m with a rime of 26.65 and
Breann Bate ran the 400m dash with a time of 59.39.
Kami Hartley finished in fifth place in the 800m with a time of 2:18.57, and Jasmine Nesbitt ran the 1500m with a time of 4:57.07.
Utah Valley will send a handful of distance runners to the Oxy Invite on Saturday, which marks the last meet of regular season competition.
"The Oxy Invite has traditioanlly been a great meet for us, we need our distance runners down at sea level to try and improve their marks before post season," Houle said.
